Title: Gmail users - question
Post by: Rico on September 17, 2010, 05:53:58 AM
I use Gmail a lot.  Just recently I noticed that in email that turn into threaded conversations (multiple emails back and forth) the first bit of it displaying is the oldest, first email.  It used to show a bit of the most recent email.  Has anyone else noticed this change?  I really prefer the old way showing a bit of the most recent email on the main email listing page.  I don't see a way to switch it back.  Any ideas??

hm, just noticed that too. a quick scan of the settings page doesn't seem to show anything to me either.

Hmmm. Must be recent since I haven't noticed it. I can't check on this PC (work lockouts etc). Will let you know...

It's really annoying to me.  I wonder if has anything to do with that priority email thing they added (even though I'm not using that)?  But maybe they changed other stuff too.  I've tried to Google some answers but no luck so far.  I hope they switch it back.  Why do they have to mess with things that already work just fine?

It might have been the priority change that did it but I don't know. I assume they didn't write up the change in their blog anywhere?

Looks like in the update someone forgot to add "order by SentDate DESC" in the SQL statement :)

Now you're just showing off ;)

I could drop a word of complaint in the ear of someone at work. Her husband works for Google.

Yeah - I know!  I mean this is Google - right?!  Who wants to see the oldest email first in a threaded email conversation that's been going on for weeks or months??

I use Outlook 2007 to manage my Gmail - mail (and several other different mail accounts) - so it isn't an issue.

I use google for work all the time, but mostly do emails off my htc touch HD so don't normally notice any changes.
