I had an idea for what I want to do for show #300. I want everyone that can to record a short video (4-5 min. or less please) talking about a couple SF or fantasy movie gems they love and why. But, I want these to be non-Trek, non-Star Wars and hopefully not some of the real popular choices. The idea is to showcase movies that some may have missed but you feel deserve a look. One of the things I like to do on the podcast from time to time is cover things in the genre that are not as well known and encourage people to try them out. Anyway, the vidcast is set for October 10th, so you have about a month to get me your videos. Keep in mind I would prefer the video be mostly you talking about the 1 or 2 films you want to showcase. I can include clips and trailers so you don't have to do that, unless it's just a small piece of the movie like a 30 sec. TV spot. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope to get lots of stuff from all of you to play.
THANKS!
Whoo hoo.. love this idea.. think I'm going to do Willow for sure.. and maybe Krull or The Last Starfighter
Good picks Kenny!
Video is not something I've had that much success with up to now. Still, if I can think of a subject, I'll see what can be done this time around.

Don't you have this little device known as an iPhone? Or are you referring to not the technology to do it, but the actually subject/speaking part?
Yes, technology. I'll try the iPhone. Only had the laptop up to now.
Admittedly, the problems came in trying to compress it to get it to a manageable size rather than the recording and that shouldn't be required for an FTP upload.
Hmm, interesting. I like the idea, but...Rico, my face is exactly WHY I do an audio podcast and not a video podcast! :)
Hmm, perfect test for my iPhone's Vid capabilities then. I'll add this to my list of things to do, but will not promise anything due to school.

Only need a few minutes of you talking about some hidden gem of a TV show or movie that you really enjoy. Should be easy for you iPhone owners. ;)

Hmm....that's the only trouble I'm hitting is "hidden gem" as it were. One immediately comes to mind, but it's more anime with Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements. I'll figure out something when I record tomorrow.

Yes. Topics are tough for this one.

I would think there might be some type of UK program you could talk about Mike that isn't maybe as well known as say Doctor Who, but is still worth watching.
Got one video from Tim so far, and only a week to go for this. Don't miss out on vidcast #300! It only comes around once!! ;)
I'll be making one this week. When is the deadline?

No later than next Saturday, Oct. 9th.
Yeah I hope to get mine done this week as well.. been having to house issues that I need to take care of.
Cool guys! Looking forward to them!
I'll get mine to you as well Rico. Not sure what to review though, most of what I like/watch is Sci-Fi! :) Of course, there's always those Nicolas Sparks movies Joyce makes me watch!! :)

I think maybe you misunderstand what I'm asking for. I do want you to talk about Sci-Fi or Fantasy (TV or film). But just something a little less well known that you enjoy. A good example would be "Highlander" for you. Just trying to get people to talk about stuff a little less popular that they enjoy in the genre.
Ah, you're right. I did misread it. Glad you corrected me, I'd have felt pretty silly! Thanks Rico.
Drat!!!
Unexpected house guest (brother, sister-inlaw and father) arriving tomorrow for the week have torpedoed my plans to review the three films I have picked out for next weekend's video podcast.
Anyone who has seen my submissions knows that I have a propensity to overbuild everything.
I will endeavor to finish my review of Silent Running during this weeks obligations. (Sometimes family can suck the life out of you)
Sadly my other two picks will not be mentioned.
Anyone else interested? - they are:
The Final Countdown
And
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Silent Running and The Final Countdown are really good movies. Can't wait to hear your review of SR! Al
Hope to get a lot of videos this week, or it will be a pretty short vidcast next weekend. ;)
P.S. Don't feel you have to put a lot of work or time into this. A few minutes talking to your iPhone or webcam, etc. is all you need to do.
I wanted to do one but never had a chance with all the upcoming travel. My two pics were "Starship Troopers" and "The Fifth Element". Love those movies!
Unfortunately I have to travel for a funeral this week so I won't have time :(
If I get time between homework and stuff I'll try to get something in. I am pretty busy, but I've got two lesser known films in mind I'd like to talk about.
Rico, what format would you like the video? Quicktime?

Not Quicktime. Usually .mp4 or .wmv is about the easiest for me to work with. I'm not on a Mac, so keep that in mind. But I usually can convert things. Just takes me more time.
Roger that Blue Leader! :)
Rico, is it ok if I put an avi file to you. It's really big, but I'm sure it will render down. Like 500 megs.
Avi is ok. I think you have done that before.
well I lost my good video software, so I am using and old version of Adobe Premier 1.5, still trying to figure out how to do formats that work
Windows Movie Maker is built right in.
hard to do music videos, but I can try! :)
OK I tried a wmv file, I'll ftp that over, could you check the quality? If it's not up to par, I can send the big AVI file.
uploaded to your server Rico. Take a look and let me know. Thanks!
Vartok the semi-corporeal Scurrilean will submit a video this week. He's not fully up on all of the good older shows that should have been carried a few seasons, so he is going to submit a video about his favorite human collectibles, with Rico's permission of course. Certainly an alien traveler would be very likely to collect items from his space travels!
Thanks guys. Well, still only a very few videos for show # 300 so far. Again, this should take very little time to do - especially if you have an iPhone or simple webcam. Record a few minutes of your thoughts and send it to me. Easy peasy! ;)
I'm going to do one on my iphone, hope you can use that Rico. Will record it tomorrow and send it you on the night.

Awesome Meds. Looking forward to seeing it. :)
You have today and tomorrow to get these in for big, show #300! Hope to get many more in the next two days.
Video sent via yousendit.com You may have to boost teh volume a bit Rico as i used my iphone to record it. :D
Editing mine right now Rico.. hopefully will send it later tonight.
Great! Thanks guys!
Man my audio sucked.. but I cleaned it up the best I could with the amount of time I had.. exporting the file now.. will upload to your FTP site when finished.
Okay it's outputted but it looks horrible now.. whatever compression was put on it made it very bad.. so I outputted it again with no compression and though it looks great the file is 2GB.. need to find a happy medium.
What software are you using for this Kenny?
I'm using my Avid
What time do I have to have this into by?
Okay I managed to get a decent version of it but it's an AVI. Still think it looks crappy and will continue to see if I can get a better output that isn't gigibytes big. But I wanted you to at least have this version just in case this is the best I can output and I don't want to miss the deadline.
I sent it via Yousendit.. you should have an email now.
Anyone else that still wants to submit something you still have a little time. I'll be working on this tomorrow. So videos just need to be in to me by Sunday morning. Thanks to those that sent them in so far.
Mine is finishing up now and I'll send it to you via the same Mobile Me link I sent you before...Al
