Hey, does anyone know if you have a cell phone that, oh for some reason or another (ATT) is out of the service area (ATT) and you can't make phone calls (ATT), but want or need to call 9/11, you can? Even without any signal (ATT)? We have a landline and cell service, but really never use the land line. I'm probably going to begin using Skype for my home phone service (regular calling) since for some reason our cell phone service (ATT) isn't quite signal worthy in my home area. But, I do know that you can't call 9/11 through Skype. Thanks, Al
If you don't have signal I'm going to guess you can't call 9-11. Maybe someone else knows for sure?

That would be a fair assumption. Without a tower in range the phone had nothing to communicate with. The only exception would be if it could roam onto another carrier. That works over here where everyone uses GSM but where different carriers use different standards, that won't work either.
I've seen that you can make an emergency 9-1-1 call with the iPhone without a sim card installed. Not sure how that works.

The SIM card is only there to allow the network to resolve identity and billing information. I'd guess it's simply an agreed protocol on GSM with regard to what is and isn't allowed when.
It still won't work if you don't have a signal.
I'd give it a try, but if it works....well, I'd be posting from jail! :)
