So, I upgraded to iTunes 9.2 the other day and it seems to have an issue with album art. I usually tag and add album art to my podcasts in iTunes before uploading them. Now it seems if you paste in art from some type of image program it distorts the color scheme. This happened with the Firefly podcast today. But I want to get it up loaded so I just went with it. See the images below so you know what I mean. So, my question is (especially to heavy album art uses and podcasters), does anyone know another program to add album art to .mp3 files that works better? I should ask my son, he does this all the time.
others complaining about it too:

It's very easy to add art in iTunes for any audio file. Just right click on the file and then choose the get info area. Some tabs pop up and just go to the artwork section. I've done it like this pretty much since I began podcasting. I also tag my files with other info there like what the episode is about and so forth. But the latest iTunes has 'broken' the album art area with new files.
I also have updated, mine didn't do that. It worked fine. Hmmmm. I wonder what's going on?

Have you added new audio content after you updated? And then added artwork from some type of Paintshop program to it? It has to be new content and you have to resize or alter the image prior to tagging it in iTunes.
Just hold your computer differently to get away from the dropped artwork issue - or buy a sleeve. ~Steve J (being impersonated by Pete)
((sorry couldn't resist))

yes, I did my album cover for the latest podcast, added the audio then the resized picture with a title on it and it worked fine. I will let you know what happens next time on Tuesday when I post my promo.
Rick - do you still use Adobe for artwork?
yes, I use photoshop.
My mac doesn't do that...
I just click and drag my JPG into the little add artwork here square.

Yes, I'm sure a Mac won't do it. ;)
Rico, how are you saving your podcast images (format, colorspace, etc?)
They are .jpg and in full color (16 mill.+). The thing about it all is, I've used the same system for years, doing it the same way. And now that way isn't working anymore. I didn't have a huge amount of extra time to play with it yesterday. I'll try some other methods and file formats soon and see if I can find a work around.
Just posting to say that the album artwork I got was like the 2nd not-so-great pic. :\

Thanks for letting me know Tim. I was wondering if the podcast on the feed would show it like that too.
yeah looks like that on my iPhone, though I actually think it looks kind of cool.
Hmm, that is strange. Wonder if it was a one time anomaly? Rico, you use Audacity right? Has there been any changes/updates to that program?
Well, what do you know - iTunes 9.21 is out today. And this was in the patch notes....
"• Addresses minor issues with dragging and dropping items "
I was just coming in to point out 9.2.1.
I guess that all you can do is try it.
:)...."Ask and YE shall receive"!
This isn't a new issue but the album art on my iPhone tends to get 'confused' from time to time. Like podcasts will show album art from a different podcast and the like. Does anyone else experience this?

I've never seen that but iTunes isn't my primary mechanism for downloading podcasts so I guess I might have stressed it less then you.

Mike - what software do you use to interface with your iPhone? Do you put podcasts on it??
I'm running with a (relatively reliable) third party App that subscribes to feeds and manges downloads and so on directly from the phone. I resort to iTunes if the other solution lets me down in some way (or for podcasts I'm not that interested in and want to play at double speed).
So you download direct to the phone? Hmm. How long does that take - especially on video casts?
Oh, what's the App called?
Over WiFi, downloads take the same sort of time to PC or Phone as far as I know.
The App was RSS Player and is now Podcaster. The latest version is not completely stable but it's generally good enough.
ha, since iOS4 nothing has been completely stable on my 3G. Not even the freaking basic iPod app!

Ahh, Wi-Fi. Still slower than wired in, but quicker than being out and about.
Was there a particular reason you don't use iTunes? Just curious because I find it does a really good job actually with podcasts/vidcasts. (Well, except for that recent album art thing.)
I don't like having a mobile device tied down to a PC. If I had to wait to get near iTunes to download podcasts I'd have nothing to listen to most of the time followed.
The reality is that I don't use my home PC most days (my wife has it!) and getting iTunes on the work PC would be an obvious no-no.
I actually have not had any problems with iOS4 - and I like the new features. The unified inbox for multiple mail accounts, the ability to zoom the camera, and making folders on the 'desktop' is great.
I do notice that I do have fewer bars in certain places - but this is a true rendering of the actual strength in the area. Very frustrating - right at my desk in the office I get lousy coverage - right where it would be most useful.
Oh I haven't had major issues, just noticeably increased instability.
Besides the recent album art issue, my iPod Classic (yeah - I'm 'old school') works great with iTunes. It also has A LOT more storage than any iPhone - which I love and need.

If you cant track your finances on it, I wouldn't touch it! ;)

Don't need anything to track my finances. Money comes in, then money is gone. Any questions? ;)
P.S. Happy to report album art is all fixed now. Worked fine for the podcast this week. Back to usual. Thanks Mr. Jobs!
