Here's the first image of the new Thor
Looks pretty good!
He needs a longer scragglier beard imo
I always prefered the clean shaven Thor myself! :)
To me, the picture looks like Thunderstrike wearing Thor's armor.
As long as we don't get Beta Ray Bill I'll be happy.
That's actually Thor in his new armor as per the relauch. pretty accurate.
I think my company should have a say in the making if this. After all we are called Thor Hammer lol.
Looking pretty good.
And it's George Kirk as well, let's hope he doesn't do any suicide crashes here ;)
Your company should be called 'Mjolnir' it sounds cooler! ;)

C'mon; Beta Ray Bill kicked butt! I used to love Alien-Horse-Face Thor back in the day! ;)
Couple more images have slipped out. Looks pretty slick to me!
What's especially cool about these Thor images is it's the first shot we've seen of the Norse god wielding his hammer, Mjolner. It's cool that not only does the top of the hammer glow, but you'll notice that the grip also emanates blue light. It's also interesting to see the size of Mjolner in proportion to Thor's body. Of course, it's not the size of the hammer, but how you use it. How it's used in Thor is probably leveling buildings and fighting Norse gods.
Hit the jump to stop with the less-than-clever innuendo and check out the concept art. Thor hits theaters on May 6, 2011.
For those who don't know, Thor is being directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet). The film also stars Natalie Portman as love-interest Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Thor's papa, Odin, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, the film's villain. The film also stars Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone), Tadanobu Asano (Mongol), and Joshua Dallas (The Descent: Part 2) as the Warriors Three; Idris Elba (The Wire) as Heimdall, Stellan Skarsgard (Angels & Demons) as Selvig, and Jaimie Alexander (Kyle XY) as Sif.
Wow great casting. Hopkins? Portman? I'm looking forward to this now. Bring on the Avengers though, already!
I'm not liking the hammer.
I think he needs a war helmet of some sort. Nothing major, maybe some wings?
Hammer seems really simple to me...he needs some sort of helmet as well imo. But looks good so far.

That first pic looks a heckuva lot like the Infinity Gauntlet to me. Is Thanos in the future of the Marvel movie franchise??? He'd make a great villian in the Avengers movie, even though I was kind of hoping for an Avengers vs. the Hulk story like in the first "Ultimates" comic series.

Good call, I think your correct on that being the Infinity Gauntlet.
Judging by the end of the last Hulk movie, I think it will be the Avengers vs Hulk.
After seeing the trailer, I have reservations about the movie. Visually, they have it right from what I saw. however the origin is wrong. It needs to be at least similar to the comic to be Thor for me. He needs to be a crippled doctor who finds a cane in a cave and gets angry when aliens are attacking so he hits the cane on the wall of the cave and it turns into the hammer and he into Thor.
New poster and trailer coming later on today.

Let me rephrase, we're going to get one pop culture reference after another in a comedic attempt. Which was in the trailer somewhat.
Ah well. Its too bad I won't get a chance to see this movie =\ (in theaters)

Still don't see how you're coming up with that. I just watched it again and I don't see any rampant pop culture references. I also don't think that the director will break his style to do that.

I'm not sure I really care for the guy playing Thor but the movie looks fun. It's hard to tell in such a short trailer but the CGI work makes it look like the film was mostly green screen which to me gives it a less realistic feel. But the main thing is does it tell a good story right? We'll find out soon enough.
Kevin
Thor is a tricky character to bring to the screen. He isn't your typical superhero. With all the Asgard and gods stuff it will be interesting to see how they play this. I've read a fair number of Thor comics and enjoyed most of them. One thing I think is interesting is when Thor is "mortal" and in the guise of Donald Blake he is an average looking guy, a doctor. He only gets big, muscular, etc. when he becomes Thor. It looks like they have sort of tossed that concept out for the film. Anyway, we'll see how things turn out.

I think that they are playing closer to the ultimates versions for all of the films. In that universe, Fury is black and Thor was never the average looking Doc.
I don't follow the newer Ultimate Thor book, but I know what you mean. I was speaking more to classic Thor. Marvel and the studios seem to play a bit fast and loose with all this. But I will miss seeing Don Blake with a cane, tapping it on the ground to become Thor.

Natalie's always been great. I first saw her way back in "The Professional" movie when she was still very young - but still very talented.
Rico, I remember that movie as well. And I agree very good actor even then. And she looks niiiice in that poster!

Oh I saw that yesterday. Somebody bought me a slurpee for my birthday. We've got like 20 7-11s in the Tri-Cities. There's like 4 that are like not a mile from each other.
Ok, they missed out on a marketing gold mine with Thor. Some beer company should market a Thor Ale. That way, when you drink too much you can get "Hammered"!! :) ;)

Awesome idea!
Still from the film.
I'm still mad that I don't have a 7-11 around here! Also just a little over 2 weeks to go till THOR hits theaters. They do have 3D at my local theater now so I think I will have to see it in 3D. Its to small of a place for them to also play it in regular format too. Its only got 11 screens.
I just got back from a advance preview today, and loved the movie! To be honest I wasn't expecting much, but I was so pleasantly surprised at how good the film was!!!
One for the blu-ray collection later this year!!
Cool! Thanks for the comments. I'm looking forward to seeing it in about two weeks.

LOL!!!!!!
Was at my local comic shop yesterday and was talking to the guy who runs it. He said he will be at opening day to pass out some free Thor and Captain America comics during the first show. Gotta get to the first show!
Well I just got back from watching Thor, I loved it!. Anthony Hopkins was superb as Odin a small but well played part. The hammer, Thor, Loki where all superb I loved the fight sequences the pacing and script where all well done.
Although I saw it in 3d, to be honest I dont think it added a lot to the film. But all those people who doubted the choice of director where completely wrong. He has done a great job of tying it all together and creating a good foundation story. With of course a very good baddie, well I say baddie but that would just be the leader, it's a bad race to be honest. Even the role played by the humans where well cast, I mean what's not to like about Natalie Portman lol.
All in all I really enjoyed this movie for lots of different reasons, I hope they do another stand alone one and not just the all in one Marvel film.
If it does well I'm sure they will do another one. Even with The Avengers movie coming out.
Just heard today Thor two has been given a green light.
Only 3 days to go. picked up a free comic from the comic shop called The Mighty THOR Saga. Gives you a brief history of the THOR comic. And has a Reading Chronology at the end. Gonna read it before Friday.
I'm actually taking my first day official day off this coming Friday from work. Partly to just rest, catch up on some stuff - but also to go see the Odinson! :)
Found this article this morning. I didn't read it past the first few sentences since it has spoilers for the movie. But it seems to have some very positive things to say about "Thor."

Just got back from seeing "Thor" with my younger son Eric. It was great fun!
They did a nice job of making the idea of a Thunder god a bit more modern, some of which has been seen in the "Ultimates" comics - to a degree. Chris Hemsworth was really good I thought in the main role and Natalie Portman seemed to be having a good time. Great effects, some humor but not too much, and a good blend of things back on Asgard and on Midgard (Earth). Well worth seeing in the theaters in glorious, simple, none-3D!
P.S. Make sure to stay all through the credits to see the little teaser bit at the end of the movie.
Went to this with the wife and we both enjoyed it. I give it a 10! The wife says 8. A 10 if he went around with no shirt on longer. Hey, wait a minute...
This movie was very well done and I thought all the actors did a great job. Did you know Volstagg was played by Ray Stevenson who was also The Punisher in "The Punisher:Warzone". They did a great job on the special effects and it was a very well written movie as well.
For you folks that saw the 2D version did parts of it seem to get blurry. It seemed to happen during some of the Asgard parts.
The parts where Thor kissed Jane's hand was great. But of course she wanted a little more than that. And the bridge they were on was an awesome special effect. Let me change that all of Asgard was a cool special effect. The battle with the destroyer was really great. It was neat how he changed back to his Thor look after getting the Hammer back. Great scene. And what Jane says after he changes was great!
When I saw it in non-3D (I don't really think 2-D is the right verbiage), it all looked crystal clear to me. Nothing blurry at all.
I saw Thor today, and I have to say I really enjoyed it a lot. It exceeded my expectations, and got me excited for some of the other movies coming out this summer. I saw it in 3D as well, and I have to say, I was very impressed, as I felt it looked good. Some of the 3D movies I seen in the past, I did not care for the 3D, but this time I really enjoyed it. It might have been something as simple as I positioned the glasses on my face a bit different, so might have made a difference for me. I know that this is fresh in my mind, but this might be one of my more favorite Marvel movies.
I felt that the actor who played Thor was really good, the start of the movie he was really arrogant, and I really liked how he changed to be a person with more humility. I am not overly familiar with the Comic, but I really liked the sort of Viking/Space beings type angle, felt unique to me. Also, I must have not been following the thread as closely as I thought, as I was surprised Natalie Portman was in the movie, I was not aware of that.
see i to;d you it was good lol, all good things to those that wait. Unusual that we got ti 1st but they wanted to take advantage of the public holidays apparently.
It only got blurry a couple of times and it was during some Asgard scenes. Maybe it was my glasses, I don't know. Still really enjoyed it!
I recall when I saw Clash of the Titans, I felt there were parts that were blurry since I did not see it in 3D. I found a few times on Asgard, that the screen was real busy, since there was so much on it, so maybe that might of led to it being blurry.
Great to see most people are really enjoying "Thor." Did some good box office over the weekend too. Nice little review at the link below. Go see it (if you haven't already).

On Saturday May 7th, I took my oldest daughter to see Thor, after twisting balloons and a magic lecture. It was in 2D. We both really enjoyed the movie and I thought they did an excellent job with the story both on earth and Asgard and with the background and origin. I heard and saw something that I wasn't quite sure of, but I knew I would see it again to make sure I was right on my suspicion. It was neat that both Stan Lee and J M straczynski had cameos.
Today we went to see Thor in 3D at the IMAX, all four of us were together this time. I confirmed my suspicions.
The archer that was going to take out Thor just might be Hawkeye. SHEILD agent Coulson calls him Barton, which is Hawkeye's alter ego, Clinton Barton. Don't know if anyone else caught that.
By the way, the 3D effects were pretty good, no goofy stuff like in some 3D movies.
RONZO
Where was J. Michael's cameo? And does anybody know who the big dude was at the Shield base. I think somebody here mentioned Luke Cage. Was he ever in shield. I though maybe it could have been the Falcon. But I don't think he was in Shield till after he was The Falcon if you know what I mean. Just some thoughts.

He was one of the first guys that tried to pull Thor;s hammer out of the ground. Had a ball cap on and I believe a dark plaid shirt. I think his line when he failed was "Oh my!"
RONZO :)
Here is a still:
Thanks, Ronzo. I remember that now. I didn't know it was him though. Thor made 34 million this past week. Up to 119 million.
Saw it yesterday and I enjoy it a lot. Marvel continues to not disappoint. It was a lot of fun and the story was good.
There were a few moments when Thor got a little annoying on the culture shock jokes. Seems like he would have caught on soon, but it wasn't to bad.
It was a nice different ending leaving the two far apart and I can't wait for the return. Not exactly the happy ending (which isn't a bad thing), I'm glad we get more though.
One other thing Loki I wish was a little more twisting and deceitful at times instead of being the crazy fighter at the end. I was thinking he's to good of a fighter here. I wish it was more of a brains vs bronzes thing. I would have respected him for as a villain I think. But he was alright.
My roommate rented this last week. I loved it! Thought it was great! The acting was great too. Loved that Anthony Hopkins was Odin. Loved the eye patch! Can't wait to see more! ;D
I enjoyed this, some good acting, a decent tale, though not quite enough to stretch the 100 plus minutes this runs. Hemsworth really came through as leading man and the rest of the cast were fully engaging with one exception. Tom Hiddleston's Loki was a bit washy, a bit meh, until the little snippet during the credits, where I finally feel we had a properly devious, mischievous Loki on screen. I must say that I thought Portman, Hemsworth & Skarsgard had excellent chemistry on screen, in pairs or as a threesome.
This is a very good film, entertaining enough, but not a must see, unless you're a comic book/Thor fan. A good Saturday night, popcorn munching, action flick.
3.5 / 5
Half way through Kenneth Brannagh's commentary, it nearly adds 1/2 a star to my rating, solo commentary tracks are usually dull, but I'm enjoying Ken, it;s OK, he says you can call him Kem during is narration.
