Hi everybody!
I wanted to let everyone know about the Podcast that I have been contracted to do the music and narration too. It looks like it will be debuting on March 15th. The author is an Australian man named Stefan Sawynok. He has written a really great story. I've finished 4 episodes and am going to record four more soon. It will be released on a weekly basis. You can check out some of the music by visiting his site: http://www.themartiansarehere.com (http://www.themartiansarehere.com) The story is really cool, and I know many of you that will want to download and listen. It follows two species of Aliens that bring their war to Earth. The five charactes that it follows are so cool. It's been such a great experience working with him. He is a talented writer with a very creative mind. It reminds me of the Twilight Zone. I'm going to release my next CD as the soundtrack of "The Martians Are Here" I think people will dig it.
The podcast is free, and in May he is wanting to see if any writers want to submit scripts to be read on the show. Kind of cool! If you would play a promo on your webcast or post in on facebook, I will send you one, and the url soon. Let me know.
Woo hoo!
The end of the world begins now......
Looks very cool. Of course, please send me a promo to use on the podcast.
Looks interesting! :)
new audio samples on the Martians are here website, along with a bunch of the music.

Looks good! i'll be sure to have a listen.
That's a great opportunity for you to showcase your talents Mr. Moyer. Congrats to you and Stefan. Looking forward to hearing this podcast!
Looking forward to this. Promo swops yay lol. Will try and write something but at the moment I'm snowed under with scripts, filming and producing.
Good one Rick ;)
Rick gave me a sneak peek of episode 1 and I really enjoyed it.. can't wait to listen to the second episode.
Stefan posted a really cool articile about how small the world is now with the Internet and introduced the artist doing the graphics for his site and the new podcast. Pretty interesting.

This looks amazing! I'll definitely have to check it out.

An interesting article that captures something many of us already recognise. After all, the only reason any of us can ever claim to be friends with one another comes back to the same route causes as outlined there.
The first episode is out:

Looks good.....will definately give it a go!! :)
The Martians Are Here Podcast Chapter 2 is up! http://bit.ly/biGdge (http://bit.ly/biGdge) wait till you hear what happens!
My iPhone just beeped at me to tell me :)
I really enjoyed the first part. Part of that is, of course, the delivery and the music, but a lot of it is the way that the story is coming together. For a group of somewhat disparate scenes, it holds the attention very well.
The diary entry method of story telling breaks the narrative up a little but I'm guessing it will work as a good way to jump between characters when more are introduced.
yes, it really helps by doing it in a diary sequence. The more characters that come our way, the easier it is to track them that way. The story gets very interesting as time goes on. :)
The next one is already in the download queue for tonight. 15 - 30 mins a go is a good length for me - if it were in hour long chunks, that would make it much harder to listen to im that it would take me a number of sessions to complete.
This way I can get through it all in one go.
The music reminds me slightly of Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds...very apt for the story. Was that a concious decision Rick or just chance?...or did I imagine the influence?
(Please don't tell me you've never heard Jeff Wayne's version. I had to educate another busy forum I use because absolutely nobody had heard of it....well, only a few!) :)
I don't know who that is. :) sorry. I wanted something sequenced and artificial but with an alien feel to it. Perfect for the story. Wait till you hear Corporate Jim's theme song.
In that case...you must get hold of Jeff Waynes Musical version of War Of The Worlds. It's a 70's rock version which combines both traditional orchestral and electric/synth instruments. Stars, Moody Blues' Justin Haywood, Richard Burton (who is electrically recreated by computer for the live stage show which I have now seen twice and is becoming an annual tradition) and many others...
Jeff Wayne - War of the worlds (Live) (Eve of the war) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8JLqsbK5V0#)
The Richard Burton head is now projected onto strips of plastic to create a 3D illusion/effect. First time I saw it, his head was on a side screen and they did experiment with projecting it onto a giant ball.
This album is a British institution and I am always amazed that it isn't known globally as well as we know it here in the UK. You will NOT be disappointed when you listen to it.
absolutely cool and amazing. THANK YOU!
Loved the first episode, fantastic writing, narration and production. Great job Stefan and Rick. Got part 2 to look forward to now :)
Well...I enjoyed part 1, but it's part 2 that has me trully reeled in now! Fantastic stuff! Usually, I won't listen till all episodes are released....I am listening as they get released...and I've a feeling it'll go for a second listen afterwards too! Thanks Rick
Thanks so much! It gets better and better as it goes on!

I happened to catch this on public television a few weeks ago. It was actually more of an hour long infomercial for DVDs of the live performance. Very interesting, up to that point I'd never heard of a stage version of this story.
Well done on your new project Rick! Keep up the good work!
Chapter 3 is up! Wow, it's getting cooler and cooler!
http://themartiansarehere.com/2010/03/chapter-3/ (http://themartiansarehere.com/2010/03/chapter-3/)
Got to listen to this on my vacation. Is very cool and I was already drawn into the story at the end of chapter 1. Music helps too :D
Keep it up Rick!

This is excellant stuff. I'm loving both the production side and the writing side of this story. Thanks for bringing it to our attention Rick.
(I have a feeling I will be thanking you after each episode. It is getting better with each one....and such an air of mystery......:))
By the way Rick, episode 3 is apparently bugged as it only DLed 11mins of it. I'm going to try and redownload it.
*edit* After RDL, (Redownloading) it fixed itself. A bit odd as I haven't had a podcast do that to me in ages. :)
King
yes, it was redownloaded because of it. Should work great now! Thanks everyone, the story gets better as we go! Stefan is a great writer!
Just listened to episode two and loving it. Getting excited about episode three, do I wait till later or listen now Oooooooo! :)
Couldn't wait. Loved episode 3 as well. Great action and tension. Can't wait for episode 4. Great writing and awesome delivery and production Rick.
Thanks Meds. This project is interesting, challenging and fulfilling. I LOVE IT! Stefan has a way of keeping me on the edge of my seat with his writing and I am trying hard to capture the emotion without making it an audio drama. Such a challenge! :)
Make sure you let Stefan know you like it! http://www.themartiansarehere.com (http://www.themartiansarehere.com)

Hmmm. Must do that.
Did you mean a butt of praise? That's a bit heavy (in the water-barrel sense of the word).
Cheers Mike corrected that.
yes recieving a butt of praise might be a bit embarassing. NO pun intended. :)

That should be fun.
I'm really looking forward to hearing both of the guest written episodes that are coming up.
The whole concept of a serial episodic story with guest story breaks is quite interesting. I don't know if there are other podcasts out there that do this but it's certainly unique within the scope of what I listen to.
Does anyone have an idea of how many episodes the main story comprises? And what will happen when it's done?
I'm sure Rick is going to post something but i thought i'd sneak in and let you know about the new guest episode that has just gone up.
Its called Once a Jolly Swagman written by someone on here who hopes you like it. Its a dark sci fi comedy.
Head to http://themartiansarehere.podbean.com/2010/05/10/once-a-jolly-swagman/ (http://themartiansarehere.podbean.com/2010/05/10/once-a-jolly-swagman/) and give it a go. Comments as always, very welcome.
Baaaaaaa :)
For a more serious comment, this was different to what I had expected.
Presentationally, it made a change to hear more than one voice although I've been enjoying Rick's reading of the 'normal' episodes. In terms of the story itself, I certainly didn't see this one forming up in quite the way it did but enjoyed the linkages joining it all up along the way.
I like not seeing the ending looming at the start :) but I don't think I'll play it for the kids!
yes, this one was not as kid friendly as the next. :)
You beat me to it Meds! What you said.
:)
Let us know what you think!
I'm working on a complilation of music from the specials and podcast that will be available on Itunes down the road. FUN!
Curses!! My machine at work keeps breaking down. Thats 2 days on the trot that I have failed to get far enough down my podcast playlist due to breakdown.
Note to self....must move The Martians Are Here further up the playlist!!!
Thanks for the emails, tweets and thumbs up for Once a Jolly Swagman. If anyone gets the time could you leave a comment on iTunes. Rick and Stefan do a fantastic job and it makes your day when you get a iTunes review.
You all rock. :)

(Of course it could simply have 15 mins of Stargazer promos on the end...)
Loved this chapter, so intense and beautifully read by Rick. Amazing writing :)
Agreed. Once again I'm captivated by the story but can't fully guess the future direction.
I'm getting some inklings after this episode as to where it might go but I have absolutely no confidence in them so I won't even try and put them forward!
Try being the guy that reads them, not knowing what is coming up! :) Thanks guys. I really enjoy Stefan's writing and am having fun creating the atmospheres to encase them.

I think Ori Studfarm put A thread up. I'm guessing it's Jeff Wayne. I was brought up on the record. Gave me nightmares a kid but now I love it. Burtons narration is top class and along with Justin Haywood (Moody Blues), David Essex (Rock On), Phil Lynot ( Thin Lizzy) you just can't go wrong.
Waking and dreaming are getting very mixed together now. Should we be expecting some sort of 'big reveal' next week if it's the end of part 1?

Still, I think the story the week after next should be quite good too :)
I got to be honest I think so too. Not sure about the writer though, he spreads rumours about my blood line ;)

Downloaded but not yet listened to - still have 20 to go as well.
I did listen to the 'Making of' yesterday and was quite impressed by the amount of detail etc that goes into all of this.
I guess I knew a lot of it in theory but it still makes a difference when you hear it being run through in practice.
Some of it was completely new though. For instance I'd never really thought through the issues of synchronising words and music i.e. having to write the music to go with the words. I'd always assumed it was a 'write a track and then talk over it' type of exercise. That's no mean feat on it's own but having to actually write around the cadence of the words etc takes the level of skill required to a whole new scale!
I am now even more in awe of the amount of work that goes into these.
It is a lot of work. I am very happy with the latest episodes musicwise. It is such a challenge, but if the music can enhance the story I have achieved success! :) Thanks Mike.
Chapter 22- wow!

Yep wow is right. I think that the sound of the podcast is evolving alongside the story and getting better all the time. There is so much synergy in the words, music and sound of each piece. Close your eyes and it just gets better. :)
I have to admit I'm constantly amazed by how brilliant this story is when you listen. Writing parts of it you kind of go into a focused zone and only concentrate on your words. Listening to the final product is just a brilliant experience. Stefans vision and writing is awesome and the magic and production that Rick produces is the icing on a very tasty cake.

Awesome music and production from Mr Moyer, his usual high standards are evident here and great direction from Stefan. Let us know your thoughts peeps. :D
Vastly different to all that went before!
If I had to sum it up that's probably where I'd start. It also finished in a very unexpected place but later analysis proved that it worked. It does leave one expecting a sequel however.
Production was excellent although I must admit to listening to it in the car so some of the finer points were probably lost in the background. Sorry for being a bad listener ;)

24 minutes of zombie fun.
I have to say what a brilliant well structured story. Fantastic delivery and a awesome pay off. Really impressed with this story.
I have this to come for my journey home I think, or perhaps in the office if it all gets too much for me. I'm a bit reticent to listen in company, however, in case I start moaning 'braaaaains' as I wonder round the office.
(Maybe I shouldn't apply zombie stereotyping before I've actually listened to the story.)
HOLY COW (No insult to Hindus!). This is a great story! And FREE?! So, I waited until about 20 episodes were in the can before I started listening, and as I've said before, I'm glad I did! I am NOT a patient man (ask Joyce, she'll tell you!), and it would be complete torture for me to have to wait for a whole WEEK to hear the next episode! Well done Rick, Stefan, Meds and Jen! Love the story and the production of it. Keep up the GREAT work. Al
Thanks Al, it is a lot of work, and we are hopeful that many are enjoying it!
We have a couple of new chapters out now too

Now up to date on The Martians Are Here. Excellent story so far and I'm looking foward to the end, with a mix of sadness and excitement! Well done everyone!!
The end is nigh, but not the end from the Martians production team. We have some great plans for 2011. Keep your ears peeled (ouch that sounds nasty i must write that down for future use)
Ok, just peeled my ears. It hurt like hell, so now what? :)
I think it'd be FUN to be part of THAT production team!
I suspect it must be quite hard work :D
It is incredibly hard work lol but fun.
