Title: A SHEPHERD'S TALE - Firefly Graphic Novel
Post by: Geekyfanboy on March 05, 2010, 10:09:22 AM
There is a really cool article at AICN with Ron Glass talking about the upcoming graphic novel about the origin of Shepard Book. Can't wait for more Firefly.. and the awesome thing is it's being co-written by Joss and Zack Whedon.

I'd be interested but I'm not a 'comic person' so the medium does take away from the content for me.

The Trek movie prequals are the only comics I've touched (in iThingy form) in recent years.

I have a question for any of you who have read "Firefly" books or comics. Do they manage to capture the same kind of characterization and dialogue which made the show such magic?

Yes they do because Joss wrote both comic series. Those Left Behind & Better Days

The two new comic series... one about Wash called Float Out and the second about Sheppard are co-written with Joss and others.. so I think they will have the same feel.

I loved both Those Left Behind and Better Days and I can't wait for the next two.

So I finally got to read The Shepherd's Tales and I will say it's so awesome to finally know Book's mysterious backstory. It was a good read. I found the art a little lacking at times (that might just be me and my artsy personality), and I was little disappointed there was no art or covers in the back like usual with Whedon graphic novels, but it was still great.
It was really cool progressing back in time from point to point in Books life. Seeing him an Alliance Commander, then as a Browncoat. It all to me kinda wraps around the single line from the Pilot "Getting there is the worthier part." Tracking his story back to him as a kid, a nomad, following the paths layed out in front of him, and coming to God where he found a new path to Serenity. That concept I really enjoyed, as I couldn't help but flip back through the pages and seeing his story progressed. It's just fantastic and really gets the brain thinking.
So anyone else read this yet?
