Had lunch today with Rick Peete. Since he lives in Illinois we took advantage of me working and staying here now to grab some lunch and chat. Had a great time and really enjoyed getting to learn more about the wonderful Illinois tax system! Anyway, if anyone else out there is in this area of the country we plan on doing this again sometime - maybe in Chicago. Here's a blurry camera phone picture of the two of us at the local Buffalo Wild Wings.
I'm jealous! I want to meet The Rico!

Everyone just needs to make an excuse to fly into Chicago for the weekend. I have the "geek pad" now, but no beer - yet.

Would be if Meds and I showed up!!!!
"Take me to your Rico!"
It was so very cool getting to meet 'The Man Himself'! It was great! Once we got past the Illinois Tax pleasantries (haha), we talked about all kinds of stuff and generally had a blast.
Okay, I admit I was kinda hoping Rico would be wearing his fedora but alas, not today. But it was totally fitting that when we left the restaurant he showed me his license plate and it reads "Jedi K". Of course! (Jedi Kirk? No, Jedi Knight!)
Rico and I both were talking about how to leverage our being in the middle of the country into some kind of major 'meet up' where we all could gather. 2010 can be the year we plan the Geeky Goodness Summit! Can we make it happen, everyone?
-Rick
Great to meet you too Rick. I need to bring my 'hat' on the next trip back from Michigan!

You bet!.....Just no way I am going to Chicago. I say Kenny's place outside LA!
A Global TreksInSciFi meetup - I love it!
Hey - I just noticed....no green beverages in that photo!
What's wrong with Chicago? Let's just plan for sometime when it is warmer. Like in May or later.

Your weather sucks butt, even in the summer. It doesn't rain out here...like ever. That's why I left the northeast. If you are going to travel, make it a vacation!

Please, RickPeete and I would have been doing shots...just like that scene from "Raider of the Lost Ark". :)
Yay! The 2nd? meeting of Treksf.com members. I support this endeavor.
:)

Well if not Chicago, then my second suggestion is we all figure out how to meet up at the Trek Convention in Las Vegas this summer .... August 5-8. That would qualify as a vacation spot, yes?
I was doing a little reading and if you buy tickets together, you can arrange so that we would all be sitting together at certain events. But at the moment, regular tickets are not being sold online yet.
Vegas isn't 'central', but it is nice. And who knows, perhaps the new Star Trek Experience will be reopned by August.
I second that. Vegas baby!

Vegas isn't "nice". It's bad...and I am all about bad. :)
so awesome! Some day, all three Rick's will meet. :)
In the spirit of Kang:
It will be Glorious!
I'm jealous!
I guess we over here could all do the UK equivalent but it doesn't have the same ring or sense of event to it. How about the beach at Brighton everyone? Tim's hosting... :P
Well the great British Beer festival is on at Earls Court in August I reckon Tim would be up for it, Mike it's on your tube line, Steph lives in London and me and Dan would have to travel a bit but that would be cool lol :)
So Rico, you have enough frequent flyer miles for a trip to London in August? Fly to London for UK Meet Up, then back to Vegas for Convention Meet Up. Fun!
All welcome, I know Bryan will be thinking about all those thousands of available quality pints ;)
London sounds great! In the spirit of the community - it should probably be San Francisco - after all - that is where SF HQ is..

Yeah, I actually do have enough miles to do that. :)
I can feel the momentum gathering!
I'm only a four hour car ride away.. I'm there.
I usually hit up Vegas in March with another trek group - people I met nearly 15 years ago on the internet - Amazing! We purposely go when there isn't a convention, so it can be more about friends from all over hanging out, but we do talk sci-fi most of the time. I might be persuaded to hit Vegas twice in one year, though.
I say Hawaii, it is more or less in the middle of everyone and for some odd reason mainlanders always want to come here
