I love the comic and the trailers.

While the comic is put out by Marvel, it's not under the Marvel banner and there is pretty good reason why.

*chuckles*

Interesting, different, might see it, but more likely on DVD.

Yeah, I know a bit about the comic series but have not had a chance to read any issues yet.  Looks like they are using some of the support characters quite a bit too.  Looks like fun!

If the real thing is as good as the trailers it will be a winner.  I'm impressed at how bold it is to be that brash (the second trailer) and yet look like the average superhero move that is normally toned way down for kids.

I'm a fan of the original comic and saw the film last Sunday... it seriously KICKED ASS! :D Hit Girl has to be one of the best comic creations in a long time and kudos for them just going for it with the film! I think the film is made without any major studio involvement which is probably why they were able to stick as close to the comic as possible (and because the creator is involved with the film).

One of the best films of the year so far for me.

I'm even more excited now!  There was a nice little article in the recent Entertainment Weekly on how they got the funds (minus a studio) to do the movie and then even had trouble finding someone to do the distribution.  Of course, it seems studios always want to mess with stuff and water it down.  Glad to hear they kept it pure.

Whats cool is that they finished making the fikm before the comic and the two sides worked together.

I got the 8 issue comic series and I'm trying to decide to read it before I see the movie next weekend or after.  I usually like to read the comics, books, etc. before I see the films based on them.  Probably do that with this too.

I think that this is an interesting event because the comic wasn't half released before the movie was done.

Hopefully the writers told them what will happen so it won't be two different endings

They were all working together, so I don't think there will be any major changes.  At least that's my guess.  I've started reading it.  Couple of issues in.  Very cool and different - and rough.  I can easily see why this movie is rated R.

From the reviews that I've heard, there are some major changes to the ending, certain key sequences, and character motivations.

I'm really enjoying the comic - two issues to go that I'll read tonight.  Going to see this movie tomorrow.  Can't wait!  Nice write up here without any serious spoilers from what I can tell.

I saw this on Wednesday....and totally loved it. I would say avoid if you don't like strong swearing (especially from the mouths of children) and there are some strong scenes of violence too. If you've seen the Red Band Hit Girl trailer, that is as strong as the language gets. No worse than that!

I found the story to be reasonably original, highly entertaining and very VERY funny. However, I also found myself reflecting afterwards about each of the characters. Who were the victims here, who were the true bad guys and how much of an emotional journey each charater goes through......brilliant stuff. I will be surprised if another film tops this one for me this year!!

Opposite for me. I heard about this ages ago and have been seeking out every dodgy comic-con camera phone recorded clip of the trailers since.

I was worried that after viewing all of the trailers (officially released and non-official ones) that I may have seen all the best bits. This proved not to be the case. I loved it.

....I was going to post about the soundtrack. Well worth looking into. Some of the songs seem a little left field, but they worked so well in the movie. Best accompaniement of songs to a film since ........well, any Tarrantino film!!

I know I'm late to the party but I just got it yesterday from Netflix.  I did enjoy it, I'd say it deserves a solid three out of five.

Two things did stick out at me for some reason, one it seemed to have trouble switching between serious and silly.  And second when it was foul or over the top, it seemed to just be there for shock and not to advance the story.  I personally have a thick skin and am an avid fan of horror and exploitation films so I'm not easily offended by the crude humor or language, but if it's not being used in a way to advance the plot, I think (big picture) it just numbs the audience.  For example when the little girl uses the C word, obviously they wanted a shock laugh.  I would prefer they wait to use those words when they want to underscore something of magnitude going on in the story.

But overall, I did enjoy the story of the kid wanting to be a hero, the boy meets girl story, and the show down in the third act.  Even though these are old cliches it was still pulled off well.

I kind of agree about some of the language, but I think in the comics it might have been a bit worse.  The thing I noticed about that aspect is it becomes less shocking after awhile in the movie - this is just how they talk.  Overall, I really liked the movie a lot.  But it isn't for everyone, that's for sure.

I just saw this too when Netflix shipped it to me. I enjoyed it, though like you guys the language especially from a little girl kinda bugged me, but excluding that it was very fun. It really got me thinking about new ideas for the Superhero genre and thinking about it in a completely different way. But I agree with you Rico this definitely isn't a film for everyone.

Well, I decided to purchase the BluRay version of this, comes with regular DVD and a digital copy.  Gotta say that I'm kind of disappointed that I bought it. It's not a bad movie, just a lot of stuff that really seemed like it gummed up the plot to me. I'm not disappointed I watched it, just that I didn't wait for the BluRay to go on sale in a month or so!

Got this on blue-ray for my birthday... watched it today.. here's a snip-it from my blog

I have to say I'm surprise at people who said it was too bloody or violent. I mean yes there were lots of bullets to the head but I have seen much worse. And those that complained about the language of the 11 year old Hit Girl, I mean she has a few choice words but man she was the best character. I enjoyed the entire story, I mean who of us geeks hadn't thought about becoming a super hero at one time in our lives. I enjoyed Nick Cage and I really liked the guy who played Kick Ass. I cried, I laughed, I cheered along with the story, to me that makes a great movie.

I loved it, language didnt bother me one bit especially as its all in te comic. If you want a faithful adaptation from a comic then you have to go with the language, blood and guts. Its about time us Brits brought out a brilliant comic and with Millar we are doing just that. Nemesis his new comic (came out in March) is awesome.

I think the music choices for this movie were genius. Not only does it make for an awesome soundtrack...but the songs really enhanced the various scene emotions and even helped defuse the more violent scenes. The Banana Splits Tra-La-la helped to "carttonify" the violent Hit Girl introduction...

Yesterday me and my buddies went to an MMA fight and there was a guy who looked just like the guy who played Kick-Ass in the movie and it was the funniest thing cause he basically just got the snot beaten out of him in the ring, but he wouldn't tap out. Though he lost we were cheering for Kick-Ass.

Just a little comment, but the "Kick Ass 2" comic has started.  Issue one of it came out a couple weeks back.  It's pretty cool.  And the next issue won't be out until early December.  Check it out if you want to see more "Kick Ass."

Just saw this on cable and I laughed my ass off! I thought it was great fun, all the characters were a riot, even Nick Cage was good! And Hit Girl? Well, if Jamie and I have a daughter, that would be her, potty mouth and all! I think it was a brilliant bit of fluff. The violence was pretty severe but I think the language was spot on. Hearing that adorable little girl saying they had a signal in the shape of a giant c*&k, I swear I almost fell off the couch.

LOL! My daughter stopped the swearing years ago, but her language was getting close. You should see her playing first person shooters. She doesn't swear, but damn if she isn't very aggressive.

Bryan, my suggestion if you have a girl is get her started young in Taekwondo. She'll be doing spin kicks and flips like a pro by the time she's 5.

I know I'm late to the party, but I've really let my film watching slip in the last few years.  Watched it last night, very good film with more than enough to chew over after you've watched it.  3.5 out out of 5 for me.
