I think I've seen that spot on TV on an "funniest advertisements of the world show".
Hearing someone swear in a foreign somehow isn't that effective (and we don't bleep music anyway, even the German explicit words).

Pretty darn funny. The interesting thing for me is when I visited Germany most of the people I met spoke very good English. I think everyone learns it in school there these days, don't they Katrin? But I know unless they use it, you will lose it.

The European version of the box set has several languages, very cool. Guess in which language version Picard just says "That can't be true!"

Everyone learns English in school, but it's like math, not everyone is good at it and you'll forget soon when you don't practice.
I guess the people you met had a medium to higher education, I think most understand the value of speaking a world language and practiced it when they have the chance. I have to guess, but that might be a fourth of the population (but I'd expect at least three quarters to catch the meaning of the song).
I wouldn't rely on every waitress and every janitor speaking it, also in east Germany they taught Russian for obvious reasons.
