Title: My Return
Post by: KingIsaacLinksr on December 05, 2009, 09:24:06 PM
Hey all,

Just thought I'd state why I've been gone for so long.  Well:

tl;dr: Laptop blew up and school took over.

Longer version:

Basically, my laptop destructed in my face, deciding that after 3.5 years, it had enough.  Its unfixable sadly without pushing lots of $$ into it, so...I went and built my first ever desktop.  About the same time, apparently, as our good friend Rick M.  Weird eh?  However, mine took longer than his.  Due to noncompatible Motherboard and PSU (DOH!) it took longer to get mine together.  In the end, I finally got a system I really like.

The Real Geeky information, setup:
Its a dual screen 22" Monitor setup (from Samsung).  Powered by:
duo-core 2 processor @ 2.8 GHz,
Windows 7 64bit (really nice)
4 GB Ram (up to 8GB possible)
2X 9500 GT SLI setup NVIDIA
Fast hardrive
Newly upgraded mouse and keyboard (Sidewinder & Logitech G110)

So with a bit of help, a lot of phone calls (yeah, Verizon loves me this last month...), I now have a new system.

So I'm back, to post, hang out, etc.  It took a while to return due to the fact that school & work was kicking my butt around the time my computer was being built.  So keeping up on anything was really difficult.  Still is tbh...

Glad to be back and hope you guys don't mind me returning.

Welcome back, and it sounds like a nice system.  I am envious of the double monitors!  :)

I was wondering where you had gone to Tim! Sorry to hear about your laptop but glad you were able to build a decent system. Welcome back!

Yeah, it was something I had wanted to do for a while now, but I figured my laptop could handle a couple more years of work before I needed to upgrade.  Boy was I wrong...life just really doesn't want to make it easy for me. (heh, what am I saying?  I'm spoiled rotten, that's for sure lol!)

Nice to see the familiar faces trickling back :)

Forget dual monitor, I'm just envious of the whole 'having a desktop system' thing.

Haha, I can't agree more, I wasn't sure I'd actually get a desktop, forget dual monitor power.  But things worked out in a very nice way.  Its an SLI hookup so the weak video card in it, is actually fairly comparable to High, but low, range cards.
