Title: Getting folks to watch the new Star Trek
Post by: moyer777 on November 28, 2009, 10:19:34 AM
I felt very accomplished on Thanksgiving as I actually got my folks to watch the new Star Trek Movie with me.  Dad used to watch the original series with me, but mom was hillarious.  She kept asking all these questions and then got really confused about 3/4 of the way in.

Dad really enjoyed it, but Mom kind of shook her head afterwards.  I don't think she would watch again, but they did both stay awake for it.  :)

She is all excited to go see New Moon.  Yeah, my mom has read all the Twightlight books.   Go figure!  :)

Your Parents really hung in there with the Trek movie, especially to stay awake after eating Turkey  :sleep. I suspect my folks would have a similar reaction to it, and probably a bit confused as well.  When you mentioned your Mom and the Twilight series, it reminded me of my Mom.  She surprised me a few years ago, when she was all over the Golden Compass, watched the movie and read the books. Was surprised firstly that a Movie like that would appeal to her, and secondly, that she would be interested since she is a strong Catholic, and some of the talk about the Movie/books views on the Catholic Church. I guess Moms can surprise at times  ;D

It's cool you got your parents to watch the new Trek.

I recently got my wife to watch the new movie. She is a huge anti Trek fan but enjoys other sci-fi like tv shows... (Roswell and Heroes).   Does anyone have any ideas what to show her next now that her interest is peaked a little?

Thanks all,

Quantum-Charles

Go for The Movie First Contact-  The Next Generation movie, very good, and pretty cool for non trekkies.

Great job Rick!

I am lucky that my wife is very open to scifi although she would watch a chick flick every time if given the chance! ;)

Maybe for guys? Running around with big weapons shooting Borg is not necessarily something to attract females.

I think DS9 would be worth a try, they are more character based. I think I'd pick one of the later seasons, but I can't name any specific episodes right now, can someone please help me out there?
