Title: Elbow Surgery
Post by: iceman on November 12, 2009, 08:54:31 AM
Well after 5 months in an elbow brace and a referral to a new specialist last week, a ct scan showed that a did a double fracture of my elbow resulting in a fracture of the Radial head and capinella which has resulted in an elbow misalignment.

I will now have to have surgery which will involve either repair or replacement of the radial head, repair of the cartillage and and ligaments surrounding both the radial head and capinella and repair of the capinella.

this will involve an overnight stay in hospital and a small chance of a blood transfusion, plus six weeks of physio. the surgery will be done before Xmas I will find out the date today or tomorrow morning.

What is amazing about all this is that they have moved very quickly, it was three days for the new specialist a day for the ct scan and back in the surgeons office a week later this has all been done since last Thursday. talk about fast it is usually months for a specialist and more months for ct scans. Not to mention but cracking your funny bone is no laughing matter. Pun intended This is one of the most painful experiences I have ever had :old_bash:

Ugggh, that sounds like it is going to be a terrible ordeal.  I assume you will be on disability of some sorts while all this happens.

Sounds...uncomfortable.

I hope you come through it OK and get a usable joint at the end of it all.

Yes, It sounds bad. However I deal with patients who go through these problems quite often. Hips, knees, shoulders. Usually there is minimal pain, use and recovery is much faster for the smaller joints.  That doesnt mean that the mental impact is less.  When people hear the word "surgery" their BP usually jumps a few points ;-)  I would compair it to getting your wisdom teeth out.  Makes you nervous but once it is done it seemed EASY.

Good luck to you, not that you will need it :-)

I hope it goes well for you. Any permanent impairment or loss of movement?
