Pretty much the ultimate version of my favorite movie, "The Wizard of Oz" is now out on Blu-Ray in a simply amazing set. Ton and tons of extras, not to mention a totally remastered and restored version of the film. There's a good article on the whole thing here: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/wizard.htm (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/wizard.htm)
This plus the upcoming "Star Trek" movie and others is really starting to push me. I did see a nice little stack of PS3's at Best Buy the other day. Hmmm.....
I was really quite impressed with WOZ on Blu-Ray. The picture is the best I have ever seen. The disc most recently to impress me is Snow White. It was absolutely the most beautiful film you have ever seen. The images are fantastic. Indescribable really. After we watched it on Blu we placed the Platinum Collection version in for comparison with the upconvert (which we thought was fabulous when it came out), and it was shocking how much inferior the Platinum Edition is. I just wish I could show these two to every skeptic out there. If you love films you will love what Blu-Ray can show you. It's like watching your most loved films for the very first time because you have never really seen them before unless it was in the theater. I know a lot of folks think they are satisfied with the quality of DVD and it was fine and is fine in many cases but DVD cannot compare to Blu-Ray. And anyone who says they cannot see the difference are either blind or lying.

I just want the Oz wrist-watch! :)
It's never been a better time to pick up that PS3. I've been playing Uncharted 2 the past few days, a PS3 exclusive game that might have the best story and presentation of any game ever. The cutscenes and animation rival anything seen in Pixar or Disney these days, and the script is better than many Hollywood blockbusters in its genre, including Indy 4 and both National Treasure movies (all of which I loved as well.) Finally the voice acting is as good as anything I've heard up to and including the recent Batman Arkham Asylum which also features top notch voices. There's even a role for our favorite shapeshifter Rene Auberjonois an ex Nazi treasure hunter at odds with our hero.
Do it Rico!
Yeah - I've heard good things about that game. Trust me, I'm really tempted. Even though there are a few things on Blu-Ray out I would want to get, I still wouldn't buy much in the format yet. Frankly, I'm just fine with DVD for your average film still. I see no reason to do it for movies I'll watch just once and forget about a week or two later (which frankly, is a lot of stuff I see since I try and keep up with it all). But for the "biggies" like Oz, Trek, Star Wars (come on George!), Indy, etc. I would spring for Blu-Ray.
I'm leaning very much towards picking up a PS3 sometime after Christmas (I imagine they'll be tough to find around Christmas itself)
