I'm not into gory horror films.. but I love these kinds.. love the audience reaction.
Paranormal Activity is both written and directed by Israeli-US filmmaker Oren Peli and it is his feature directorial debut. This first premiered at Slamdance back in early 2008 where it was eventually bought by DreamWorks / Paramount. The film was shot for $11,000 in Oren's own home in San Diego. After keeping this quiet for years, Paramount is now ready to unleash Paranormal Activity into limited theaters starting on September 25th. Head to the official website for more info and theater listings: ParanormalMovie.com.

Looks like it is Blair Witch Project inspired - but in a McMansion and with some Emos... :)
Just saw this last night. Oh my god. Absolutely terrifying. So good, so freaking good. I can't remember the last time a movie scared me like this. I couldn't sleep last night, every noise in my house made me jump and freak out. I'm freaked out just thinking about it today. You wan't to feel like this, go see this movie. The best thing about it is how completely original and fresh this movie seems. you leave feeling like you've never seen anything like it, which is am almost totally unique for me these days. The performances are brilliant too, never heard of either of these actors and they were completely believable in their roles. I loved it.
Saw it last night for Halloween and was blown away. I had such a great time watching this film...
As I've said on here before, I'm not a fan of going to the movies these days. I don't see the point of paying $7.50 to sit through several TV commercials, a mediocre movie, all while teen brats on their cell phones text message and murmur through the whole movie. I'd totally rather see the DVD.
This was different. When the film started to get going the kids got quiet and put their phones away. There are 3 or 4 good scares in the audience where the girls screamed.
The plot is a guy wanting to document the haunting that he and his girlfriend are experiencing on videotape. The camera work is 100 times better than Blair Witch. Blair Witch had to much running with the camera. They used a tripod in this one. (Praise the Lord!) Much better shooting. And unlike Blair Witch, the audience gets to see and hear the haunting. Good video and audio effects. We see supranational events. We even see them go back and review their footage. They did a nice job editing this as well.
It's not a gory movie. Not really any sex. (Implied but the camera was not on.) Just a a couple of words in there to give it an R rating.
I'd totally recommend this one.
Pretty cool movie; not as groundbreaking as the hype makes it out to be, but well worth seeing. Makes you think twice about messing around with a ouija board; that's for sure.
So, I just came back from watching Paranormal Activity.
There was no plot to speak of. The cinematography was non existent. The few special effects were easily achieved and nothing spectacular, however ,they were effective! It shouldn't have worked...but it did! I don't consider it a movie as such. I would say it is more of an experience! I absolutely LOVED it! I honestly can't remember a scarier movie.
It is similar to Blair Witch in style...now I really enjoyed Blair Witch. But Blair Witch suffered from building up suspence to an almighty finale that failed to impress. This had basically a night scene followed by a day scene folled by a night etc... You knew what to expect in both scene's...but didn't know exactly what was coming. This was throughout the movie and the ending really makes you pap yourself....All of this with little, or no jump out of your seats moments!! AWESOME!!!
The crowd reactions at the start seemed very uninterested. People loudly eating and murmering without really seeming to get ingrossed in the movie. Then, very soon afterwards they showed interest. At highly suspenceful moments the cinema was 100% silent. Not even a cough. All were holding thier breaths....later still and the suspeceful moments were full of slight coughs and people giggling and whispering to thier groups. I realised that they were all doing this because of thier nervousness. It was nervous giggles. It was nervous "break the silence" coughs. It was murmering to your friends for reassurance that a group gives you! By the end, I heard the odd person crying. I heard a couple of woman asking thier partners "Can we leave? I don't like" One was almost pleading...
I gotta say. Overall, I loved it. Very clever...very simple...and why the f*** has nobody done this already?
To summarise the movie, I'd say it was like The Exorcist, but without the priest battle!...or the possesion....that doesn't leave much, I know. But the bit that was left makes up this film...scary indeed!!
