Just got the guest cast by Feathers up. It's about the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." Really great job Mike and thanks much for doing this. Hope you will tackle another subject sometime in the future too.

Got my towel, and am ready to listen....
The time of reaconing has arrived then *Gulp* ;)
I'm glad you liked it. I hope it does Treks in Sci-Fi justice! It's certainly given me a healthy respect for anyone who can put out something like this, solo hosted, every week.
As for doing another...let's see how much of a beating I take for this one before talking about that :)
Listening now, doing well so far :)
It's downloaded, I can hardly wait! YAY!
Awesome podcast Mike, really enjoyed it you flowed well and was very informative. great show. :)

...interesting rhythmic devices too which combine with the format of the verse structure to sublimate this, transcend that and come to terms with the fundamental dichotemies of the other...or something :)
Thanks. Glad it worked.
Movie trailer to help you get in the mood a bit:

Wonderful show Mike. Thoroughly enjoyed it while on a bike ride. I had always sensed that there was more to the show than we have been exposed to here in states. By the way, my American accent did not prevent me from understanding your commentary. Could it have been the Babel fish in my head?
Now the question that I should think that Zaphod Beeblebrox might know the answer to. Is it easier for a Yank to understand a Brit or the other way around? This question has been bothering my for a millenium! Since we all know the meaning of life, the universe, and all that, there are so few good questions left!

Andrew and I listened to the cast on the way up to Olympia and back. EXCELLENT! I have a confession. I have never seen the movie.. I haven't heard anything until this podcast and I will now see the movie. It was so informative and fun. Mike, you are really a great host and I enjoyed the quality of the show as well. VERY COOL! Thanks! And thanks Rico for letting others share from time to time. I think that is great.
Still listening, Mike...but you're doing great! I think you should have your own podcast. :)
Do you realise how much work that would entail??? Oh...yes...of course...you do...right. ;)
Feathers, you did and excellent job on the podacast this week. I must admit I'd never heard of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy until a few years aog when the movie came out. I found your podcast to very informative and entertaining. So much, that I've ordered the some CD's of the radio shows. Thank you for your great podcast! :metallica:
Well done Brother Feathers! I have been a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for many a year. My first exposure was in the mid to early 80's when there was a Brit TV interpretation shown on PBS in Philadelphia. I found it so completely hilarious that I went out and read the books.
I have to say that I did not care for the movie so much for some reason - I preferred the Brit TV edition.
Kudos for an excellent podcast. Read the book several times, saw the British version on Netflix and the newer movie. I have only listened to pieces of the radio drama. Got me interested in finding them on CD's.
By the way did you record this podcast on purpose with it's number ending in 42, #242, or was it a bizzare twist of fate??
RONZO ;D
Bizarre twist of fate :) or maybe not...show numbering is in Rico's hands. I had no idea when it would go out (recorded it a few weeks ago - you notice I mention no show number).
sure was a good cast. Thanks again.
Just like to say thank you for an excellant show. I love HitchHikers TV show, love the first book and have got all the audiobooks in a queue on the ipod. Movie however.........:( Although I didn't actually mind Mos Def as Ford Prefect.
It is difficult to solo host a podcast and get away with it. I've only come across a few that pull it off, but your enthusiasm shone through and you more than managed it. Hell, I struggle to make a solo 2 minute audio comment.....
Again, thanks.
Mike,
Finished listening to the podcast today. You did a great job! You should really consider doing more podcasts. You get the info across really well and you are very articulate, a real natural.
You have brought back some childhood memories for me about Hitchhiker's, a saw it many years ago before I was really old enough to understand it. I'll have to listen to the original radio shows now!
Great Job Mike. I learned a lot more about Hitchhikers. I had seen the movie a few years ago, but past that I did not know the history of it. Thanks for covering, I felt you did a thorough job. I liked your delivery as well, I like how you comment on things, very British, or at least how I imagine it :)
Wow!
I enjoyed doing this but I didn't expect such a positive reaction from everyone else. Thanks very much guys (and girls).
(With all this encouragement I may now try to do another one, but only if I can think of a suitable topic.)
Yes - you did great Mike. Most people that never try this don't realize how tricky it is - especially going it alone. I think I mentioned this to Meds before (maybe you could team up), but I'd love to hear our UK members do a podcast (or multiple shows) sometime on the James Bond films. I'm not sure how much of a Bond fan you are but I thought that might be a good subject for you guys to tackle sometime. Perhaps even bring some discussion on the books into it too. Just an idea.
I meant to say that from my listening I screwed up the final mix an got silence instead of the names of Dave Prowse and Peter Davison. Was that a common experience or was it just my download that had a problem?
You did a great job! Very informative and I loved it. I'm surprised that when you mentioned the translator technology, you didn't mention Farscape. I'm more than sure that the translator microbes were an homage to the bablefish (Which is also a translation website)
You know, I completely forgot about Farscape in that context. I'm surprised I didn't mention it too.
The Dave Prowse and Peter Davison were missing from my downl;oad too, but I caught just enough to know who you were on about
That was in the file that way that I got from you Mike.

Yeah, I figured as much. I made the newbies error of a last minute regeneration of the file without then checking it properly before I uploaded it. Hey ho.
I haven't posted here? Man I'm slacking.
Twas a good show Feathers, learned quite a bit of information on this series that I never knew. (Although admittedly, I knew very little). I am tempted to go and rent the movie just for the sake of it. Since, as you said, there are so many inside jokes due to the series of things. Thanks for doing it!

You can watch the movie in the "Now Showing" streaming box here right now. If you don't mind a little streaming flash video.
I really enjoyed this podcast, great coverage of the material. Douglas Adams was one of my personal hero's growing up and I learned a number of things I hadn't been aware of previously. I found it really hard to get through the salmon of doubt especially as I read through the Dirk Gently chapters as you knew it was never going to be finished. Thank you feathers.
Thanks and welcome!
