Title: Capt. Rico at the Trek Exhibit
Post by: Rico on August 13, 2009, 11:51:07 AM
Well, went down to the Trek exhibit today with my friend Mark (markinro here).  Pretty cool.  Of course, pics were not allowed (lame).  I did sneak a few on a cell phone, but I haven't pulled those off yet.  But here are the "bought" pics.  It was worth the trip and the money just to walk around on the bridge set and sit in the captain's chair (even though the bridge was only ok - but not too bad).  Still a fun trip and worth seeing for any true Trek fan.  Wish they hadn't split the exhibit up.  I'll talk more about it this weekend on the podcast.  "Warp speed!"

Nice! What was fun about the exhibit here in Phoenix was the TNG bridge set was really accurate and you could just walk in and hang out. No pictures, but I was all alone in there, so I sat at all the stations and played at all the counsels. :)

I was happy to have the original bridge here, my favorite of course.  But give me a week with that set, some wire, more lights, etc. and I could make it really rock!

My gosh I'm fat.  Time to go on a diet and start exercising again.

Could you linger and futz about or did they just have you sit, pic, and out?

Not many people there today since it's been here since like Feb. now.  So we could sit there for an hour, if we wanted.

I almost felt like forbidding Rico from doing any sound effects, quoting dialogue, etc as we walked through the exhibit.  The chronology room was fun - all the dates of the series/movies.   They also had a display of Picard's little ships from his office - but odd - none of them were broken :)

They needed a good tour guide down there.  I should apply for the job!

Sounds similar to what they had in the Science Museum in London a few years back except we couldn't sit in the chairs or even enter the bridge. You could only look from outside. I'd have had way more fun if we could have done that!

It had the TOS bridge and TNG transporter as well as a load of props and uniforms in cases. They were playing Voyager trailers on monitors as I recall so that fates it a bit.

I'm happy to see it but sad I can't go :(

Man; that is soo cool!  I'd love to have another chance to interact with a set like that.  I hope the Experience will give us a chance when it opens up again. :)

Ok, here are a few pics I took on a cell phone.  Not the greatest stuff - had to kind of sneak them in.
