Title: Treks in Sci-Fi - The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Post by: Feathers on July 16, 2009, 09:59:56 AM
I want to put a call out for any audio comments that anyone cares to make about The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy. Radio, TV, Book, Record - comments on any format will be acceptable and appreciated.

I'm putting a TrekSF episode together on this but I've carefully not comitted to a date which is why it's not in the list of upcoming shows :). I'd like comments in the next couple of weeks if possible - the sooner I get them, the sooner this will be done!

If you want to send me something, use mike.featherstone@mail2web.com - a nice disposable email address.

Thanks!

I'm going to have a hard time not playing the entire radio series in this. There are just so many good one-liners.

Well, I knew that, just wanted to make sure all you froods knew where your towels were.

I will admit that where I'm coming from in this is much more of the background than the story - 13 hours of radio, six hours of TV, 5 books and one feature film are a bit much for an hours worth of podcast and Rico would shoot me if I gave hum a 5 hour show to upload *cough* waffle on.

I'm doing it solo too so this is a bit of a challenge. Hopefully it will be interesting...

I'm going to my comment in the style of Mike LOL ;)

When do you need the comments for Mike? I've wrote mine and just got to record it.

Not urgent , urgent. I've recorded 40 mins of me talking but I've got clips and stuff to mix in which will take me a while. I am a complete novice here :) (and surrounded by professionals...I'm not nervous!)

Some time in the next week would be great but as I have no sfhduled release date I'm fairly flexible.

Excellent. I've referred to him a few times but only in terms of his contribution to the series so a comment to drop in at the approprite point would be brilliant!

Feel free!

The other thing I need is some promos. I have a few gaps between recorded segments that a promo would fill nicely. Do none of you put them on your sites?

Please.

I've recorded in segments and promos cover the segment gaps nicely. I'm trying to use promos of the 'casts I listen to so that's basically the family here (including THWY, obviously) plus one other.

You write your comments? Doh! that's where i mess up. I just say things after hitting the record button for a little while then hit the stop button.

I must admit I'm starting to make bullet point notes too. With the Dr Who waffle and tomorrows Quantum Leap TSF I actually wrote some points and then spike from those.

It's something I learned from trying to put the Hitch Hikers show together.

Talking of which...I've had Meds' comment and edited it in. Anyone else?

Got a new Waffle promo too. Funny!

My voice!

There's certain puffs and so on I can do nothing about but in places it feels like it's all on the edge of distortion. I'm tempted by the 'Normalise' option but I don't really know what it does.

I should probably have taken more time to play before starting this.

Actually, what I really want to do is make it like a studio recording...which it isn't.

It's nor that bad for what it is.

Wish I'd come across this thread earlier. (Note to self, visit forums more often)

Have to ask though, what about the musical? And the sixth book? And "Young Zaphod Plays it Safe"? The Infocom game? Too many choices.

Also, "42" is the answer to "What is six times nine?" Doesn't everone compute in Base 13? :)

Seriously, I'm really looking to this podcast. I've been a huge H2G2 fan since the radio drama. Secondary Phase, I believe; used to listen every Wednesday morning before school.

Aargh! See what you've done? You've hit me with 'Expectations'. I'll probably get all nervous now and have to point out that I've never sone a podcast and blah, blah, blah

Oh, and the game gets a mention at least but maybe not absolutely all of everything else :)

Brilliant job, Mike! Just had a listen and really enjoyed your efforts. When you got to the bit about Douglas Adams dying in a gym, I knew you would have a go at me! Appropriately enough, I was running at the time. :)

Thanks Bryan.

I nearly didn't say anything about you in reference to the gym! I knew everyone on the forum would expect me to, but wasn't sure I'd get away with it. In the end, though, I couldn't resist.

Fair enough, mate! It brought a smile to my face...around mile 7. :)

And your self deprecating sense of humor is so British, I love it!  :cheers
