Title: "The Road"
Post by: Thrasher on July 14, 2009, 05:04:29 AM
It seems that the only thing close to as exciting as wiping out civilization is to contemplate the fate of survivors once everything falls apart -i.e. "I Am Legend, 28 Days Later, etc". This one is slated for an October release.

I haven't read the novel, but I may try to pick it up before the release.

Looks interesting!  http://the-road--trailer.blogspot.com/ (http://the-road--trailer.blogspot.com/)

"The Road is a post-apocalyptic movie based on the novel of the same name written by Cormac McCarthy. The film is directed by John Hillcoat and is starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as a father and his son in a journey toward the coast across a blasted landscape. The Road should be released in mid November 2008. Update: The Road will be released on October 16, 2009. :(

The Plot:
"A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food--and each other." (source: IMDb)

A rather terrifying detail about those lawless bands: some have decided to reinstate the harshest slavery and to resort to cannibalism to feed themselves hence transforming a world already bleak into a real nightmare...

The journey of the two heroes of The Road is no sinecure!

The Road will certainly be less spectacular than Doomsday or Mad Max, but that's probably what will make the Road even more powerful... The plot somewhat reminds of the TV show Jeremiah with Luke Perry. But The Road takes place in a world falling in absolute savagery, like a real end to civilization."

Looks very INtense. I'm not sure I'd watch it - that sort of thing always frightens me.

I've always had a fascination for this type of film.  I'm looking forward to it. :)
