Title: GPS unit
Post by: KingIsaacLinksr on June 17, 2009, 11:12:19 PM
Hey all, I was curious as to what people think of GPS right now and which units are actually a good "bang for their buck".  I may need one soon and was curious what everyone here thought about them and the current brands.

I know Rico has one, but not sure about everyone else.

I've got a small 12 channel receiver (for use with a PDA or similar) but it's quite old now. It's still fully functional but doesn't get a lot of use. I never seem to go anywhere that I don't know my way around.

I guess I've got one built into the phone too but that never gets switched on (the GPS unit that is, the phone's always on).

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265W that I use on a semi-regualr basis. It worked well on my last trip to rural Alabama. Basiaclly the only thing you're really looking out for is that it has TTY voices (that means they'll say street names instead of just saying "Turn right in 300 feet").

I've only had experience with Garmin but I'm sure anything From TomTom or other major manufacturers are just as good.

Nope - I don't have one.  My only experience with them has been in a few rental cars when I was on business trips.  The only time I really ever needed one.

Oh that's why I think that way.

Thanks Feathers and Billybob.

This one is the one I stumbled across.  Might be what I'm looking for.

Otherwise, thanks again.  :) :)

That is effectively the one I recommended. The only difference I believe is that one doesn't have Bluetooth (which I haven't used once, i just got that model cause it was on sale).

Yeah, I was curious as to why the number wasn't the same.  But yes, it is effectively the one you pointed to me.  So it looks good to me. :)
