Got the vidcast up now for today. Tackling "The Wizard of Oz" and the Baum books is a big topic. I hope I did it justice. I try to slip in some things you might not know about this classic film and book series. Hope you all enjoy it. The video made the file size pretty darn big. Over 400 meg. Hope everyone can get it ok and enjoy it. If anyone has a lot of trouble, let me know and I'll try and encode a smaller version for you.

That whole episode was brilliant in it's own way - they crossd over with so many other films and shows it was almost impossible to keep up with.

Rico- GREAT VIDCAST! Wizard of Oz has always held a special place in my heart. I used to be scared of the flying monkeys when I was little, but I quickly got over it. Your vidcast gave me information I had never heard before and really added a new dimension to it. THANK YOU! Dude, I dig what you do. How cool.

This is one of my all time favs too... and so ahead of its time, it boggles my mind to think about it. Think of the world as it was at that time, and to think that this movie could be made in that world. Wow.
So many things from my daily language come from this. When the kids are impatient I say "All in good time. All in good time." in a witch voice. I sing the witch on a bike theme when riding bikes. There are many others.
It pains me to say this, but sooner or later someone is going to remake it complete with CGI effects and Jim Carrey as the Scarecrow. If that even happens I will barf.
Cool to see a vidcast. I haven't really caught many of them in the past. It's one thing to hear a person, another to see them. Rico, you have a nice smile.
"The Wizard Of Oz" was an annual television event for me growing up, along with "King Kong". Funny to look at it now and remember that I would get frightened (though, the "Oh Wee Oh" song is still pretty ominous). I was familiar with the Buddy Ebsen story, but not Ray Bolger's.
I'm not usually one for musicals, but this is an amazing movie. Here's the result of the right mix of imagination and talent. This is a film that can never successfully be remade.
Now, there has to be an alternate vidcast on "Zardoz".

I love the Wizard of Oz. We didn't catch it this Christmas but it seems to be an annual event over here too.
I'm surprised the BTS piece admits to almost killing an actor with aluminium powder inhalation - sounds horrific - but there were a lot of other interesting background pieces in there. I knew very little about any of the cast before this.

Thanks. One thing I think I forgot to mention is Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch) received severe burns during the filming of the scene when the witch disappears in a cloud of smoke and flame. Some were even third degree. The movie had a few close calls for the cast.

Yeah, I was thinking that when I watched today. Dangerous stuff happened on set. Those clips were from the DVD extras, weren't they. :)
I LOVE The Wizard Of Oz. It use to come on TV once a year when I was growing up and it was a big deal in my house. It was the one night I was allowed to stay up late (other than when Star Wars was on). We popped big bowls of popcorn and watched it as a family...
I use to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow in the bathtub when I was little. :D It's my FAVORITE song to this day. I love all the variations of it too. The music is wonderful. The opening music has always given me goose bumps.
I too was freaked out by the flying monkeys. The make up was AWESOME. Very convincing.
The casting for this movie was spot on. All these actors were perfect. The Tin man, Lion and Scarecrow's facial expressions and movements can never be duplicated. There hasn't been a remake that I think can ever touch this version.
My favorite character is the Tin Man...but I love them all. There was just something about him that I can't put my finger on. Maybe it was his compassion...which couldn't be felt without a heart. He had one all along!
My 4-year-old niece dressed up as Dorthy for Halloween this year. I'll have to dig up those pics and post them. My family says she's my clone. She loves the Wizard Of Oz AND Star Wars....my little Anomaly in training. :)
