Title: Raumpatrouille Orion
Post by: Odradek on March 13, 2009, 12:24:00 PM
Dear Rico;
I wonder if you ever heard of the show "Raumpatrouille Orion", which is also known as the "German Star Trek".
One of your german listeners propably had told you about that before.
Would you consider to do a show about "Orion"? Your podcast would be so perfect for that.
Or would you be  interested   to put an episode on your new webside ?

by the way " hello" everybody

Hello back! :)

No cylons there, I'm sure of that. (The bad aliens are called Frogs)

I considered posting about Orion, too, so I was looking up some informations:

Its 1966, and you sit in front of the TV, watching that cool new SF show. Earth is united, there is even a Russian on the bridge!

I found some clips with English subs here:
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=cart00nist&view=videos&sort=d (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=cart00nist&view=videos&sort=d)

Some (German) people believe it's even better than ST, but I disagree. It's the old "us versus the aliens" story.
But I like the bridge, they used deep drawing to get all this round shapes. But compared to ST it was low budget, did you spot the iron, the pencil sharpeners and the plastic cups? The music is good, too.
Today there are 145 books and one movie (various episodes cut together and abridged).

Now: Do you know Star Gate Atlantis, the episode called "Inferno", where they discover the ancient warship?
They kid they won't call it the Enterprise - and end up calling it Orion! I found it hilarious and a strange coincidence. They won't call it for an American TV show and end up choosing a name from a rather unknown and very short lived German TV show. But Wikipedia states the German reporter Robert Vogel told the producers about Orion, so it may in fact be a cultural reference and no coincidence!

I'm not a fan, but it's the one and only German SF show, and sometimes I meet Wolfgang Volz, one of the actors. He lives in this area and rides the same bus! :)
