Title: iPhone questions
Post by: billybob476 on March 02, 2009, 05:47:53 AM
Sp as I've mentioned I'll be getting an iPhone at the end of March. I was wondering about a few things (in the car especially)

1. Car chargers: I have a car charger I've been using with my old 2nd gen mini and my wife's current nano. Will it work ok with my iPhone or are the power requirements different? I assume since they all charge via USB the voltage etc are all the same.

2. Plugging into car audio and phone use: My civic has a standard headphone jack line in on the stereo. I plug my ipod into the stereo via a cable. I use a bluetooth headset to talk on the phone while driving. If I have the phone connected to USB, will the music be routed through the bluetooth as well as the phone functionality or can I have the iPod function always attached to the headphone jack and just the phone function through bluetooth?

Just wondering if the iPhone folks round here had any ideas.

I can give you a theoretical answer, but since I haven't actually done any of this myself it won't be too helpful. (I walk to work and so use the wired headset to listen to stuff and take calls.)

I think USB is universal on the charger front, so I don't see why it wouldn't work...but until I actually try it, I guess I shouldn't promise anything.

On the audio front, there's no stereo bluetooth profile support within the iPhone which means I think it will have to work as you describe i.e. phone to headset, playback to headphone socket.

As I say, this is theoretical ony!

yeah, on another board I was told as long as you use the iPhone cable plugged into the port on the car charger you're good.

On the second point, I hope this is the case because I want the audio heading out the headphone jack at all times. I'd much rather have my music going to the stereo over a wire.

I have the ipod touch, and had to get a different charger than my video ipod.  I don't know the answer to the other!
