I'd forgotten what fun Kate Mulgrew got to have in this episode - I've only watched the first ten minutes in the theatre at the moment. I also liked the fact that the titles were slightly coloured over the B&W background for distinction. (I'm sure they were normally white).

Listening right now. The Ultimates comparison was brilliant; I never stopped to look at the new film from this angle. I think you hit the nail on the head- like with The Ultimates, this new film seems poised to introduce a new bunch of folks to the Trek universe without scaring them away with all of the years of continuity.

Thanks. Yeah, actually I thought about the Ultimates idea this morning in the shower before the podcast. For those who know the comics I think the analogy will really work. Hopefully I still explained it well enough for those that don't know them.

I like the Ultimates comparison too. I'm not into comics at all, but thinking of the film and some of what I've seen in the light of what you described does work for me on some level.
I'm not exactly worked up over what does or doesn't get 'broken' by this film anyway but even so, I like the analogy.
Another fab podcast Rico, i love this episode one because of my admiration for the ver y early buck rogers episodes (didsn't he always die at the end of every episode as a cliff hanger?) Great additions from Mike and of course the moyers (less eating of the popcorn ;) Great show.

Same here. I love the old Movie and Radio serials...Space Patrol, Tom Corbett, Flash/Buck and so on. This is one of my favorite episodes of Voyager.
Not enough Rocket Ships and RayGuns on the screen anymore.
I always loved the Captain Proton bits in Voyager. I thought they were done SO well. I do wish they had done "Dr. Choatica gets hold the of the mobile emitter" !! I bet that would have been fun. That character with 24th Century Technology escapes the ship! Waaahaaahaaa!!!!
