Millar Wants 8-Hour "Superman" Epic

If writer Mark Millar has his way, the proposed reboot of the "Superman" franchise would be an eight-hour, three-movie epic along the lines of "Lord the Rings." The film would follow the Man of Steel from his birth on the planet Krypton to the end of his life as the yellow sun of Earth turns red, goes supernova and Superman loses his powers, he tells Empire Magazine.
Millar said he's been working closely with an unnamed director to fashion the epic script and try to get his vision for the Man of Steel brought to the big-screen.
"It's gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him," he said. "The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now."
"The problem with Superman Returns was like releasing Star Wars in '77, The Empire Strikes Back in '80 and then waiting 28 years to release Return of the Jedi, it wasn't relevant," he continued. "I understand what Bryan Singer was trying to do, to pay homage to Richard Donner's original vision, but I think you should pay homage by doing something completely different."
Millar, who wrote "Wanted" and the upcoming "Kick Ass" has the comic-book credentials to write the film. Millar's vision would be to film all three films at once and then release one film a year for three years to tell the epic story.
No word yet on if Warner Brothers has taken the bait on this potential epic story for the Man of Steel.Millar Wants 8-Hour "Superman" Epic

Wow. So cool it appeared twice. ;)
Seriously though, that would be cool. The problem with Supes these days is that he is impervious whereas Spidey and Batman are far more believable. Superman needs some proper treatment and another re-working of his uniform. I really hope they give this some real thought.
Sounds cool, but you have to keep in mind that Millar is a confirmed liar.
I'm dubious. I don't like the idea of the final film. If you are going to kill him then at least use the doomsday story.
Sounds like a bit too much for Hollywood. I also enjoyed "Superman Returns" and thought they did a slick job of bringing the character back. I don't see the need to constantly retell the origin story. Let's just have a good action packed Superman tale with modern effects, etc.
Exactly. I liked Superman Returns; I just think it was a bit too much of a retread/love letter to the Donner movies for mainstream tastes. Routh was great as Superman/Clark. Even the costume has grown on me.
Let's just get a good action story (with a villain other than Luthor) that is worthy of the character, the actors and the great production values.
I'm ambivalent about the director. Singer is fine, but someone else might do as well or better.
Bob Zemeckis, who is rumored to be the mystery "unnamed director", would be an interesting choice. He knows how to tell a good story, obviously.
Superman movies don't have nearly enough SOLOMON GRUNDY!
