Hey everyone! Check out the new home web page. http://www.treksf.com
Let me know what you all think! :biggrin
Wow.. that's great. I like the new look, the buttons are cool and I like the SFX when you press them.. The Sitepal is cool funny how she follows the mouse arrow.
Still tweaking it somewhat. Got to fix a few things still. And I'll be adding the Sitepal to other pages too.
try this link now too:

That is just too cool and kind of bizarre.. It's funny hearing your voice come out of a computer generated character.
Hmm, I like the new homepage, but when the buttons at the top aren't showing up properly.
Try installing Java, Anthony.

While the first time I visited, they weren't showing up till I put my cursor over them, but the next time I came back they worked fine. buts thatnx for the link anyway.
Even more stuff added in now gang. Check the Podcast link and SF news section too now.
That's some cool stuff dude! Awesome upgrades!!
Quite amazing! The animation is a very nice touch.
:thumbsup The site pal enhances your site quite a bit. I suggest some color scheme stuff and banner changes, and you got it made.
why is her name Kate? her voice sounds so computer generated. it would be cool if you could make a little cartoon of you talking.

Hey Picard.. if you go to his "about me" link you'll see an animated Rico talking. It's very cool

Her name is Kate, because that was name on the voice file I picked to use. As Kenny mentioned, if you go to the "About Me" link I kind of made an avatar of me talking. I'm still playing around with what this feature can do. More to come - hopefully.
How much did you pay for site pal?

How much did you pay for site pal?
All the info is right here:

Thats kinda spendy in my opinion but it is cool.
Yep, it ain't cheap but it is cool. Not sure how long I'll use it. Just wanted to see how it worked and try it out for a bit.
I see. Nice idea.
oh, i see, thats awsome
Hi Rico,
I've been admiring Site Pal for several years now. When used correctly, they are a great feature to add to a site. I think they add dimension to yours.Â
In the recent past, your site hasn't worked perfectly on the Mac browser, Safari. I haven't mentioned it because of the relatively low number of Mac users who would be using your site...its alot of work to chase a bug down, for a browser a fraction of the population uses. But I'm happy to report that today, Safari isn't having any trouble with your site (the tables aren't blown). Looks much better, and functions perfectly. Good job. I particularly like your sound effects on the links. Dream Weaver is a great WYSIWYG editor. For those of you who may not know what that means, in web design lingo it stands for "What You See Is What You Get". It works hand in hand with Flash and Fireworks. I highly recommend it over Front Page. But there is a slight learning curve as you mentioned in your podcast and you will need to clean up the code from time to time. I'm glad that you're looking into it. It will add polish to your evolving site.
Thanks for the comments Jen. Very helpful. Yeah, I just need some time to dig into Dreamweaver. I've mainly been trying to keep the site pretty simple so far. Learning as I go along. I find it much more satisfying that way. More things to come soon hopefully!
I think to your site, the Java makes it look better, but on some sites, Java makes it look like they cheated and used all Java, and no skilled HTML and photoshop work.
whatever works.... why do you say java is cheating?
Becasue with HTML/CSS you have to design everything yourself, with JAVA you download something and put it on the page, and poof!
i see, so its easy, i like easy...
Lol, ya, but you have to have skill to use HTML and CSS and with java, I think it's too easy. But for people who aren't extremely familiar with HTML then java is good for them.
Things are easy when you know how to do them. If you don't know, it's then not easy. So whether you use HTML/Java, or CSS or some combination it doesn't really matter. As long as you get the desired result.
True.
I highly recommend Dreamweaver for amateurs. I used when i started out. Even tho WYSIWYG take more time to make a website than with coding, it gets the job done.
What does dreamweaver do?

What does dreamweaver do?
It's a software tool used for building web pages.
But is it like HTML, what are the advantages?
It makes HTML for you and is much more advanced than microsoft frontpage. go to http://macromedia.com
is that exclusively an apple program?
Dreamweaver? No, I know it's for PC. Might be a Mac version, but I'm not a Mac guy so not sure. Check their website from Spock's link above.
Hmm, sounds like cheating to me. Lol, kidding, it actually sounds REALLY cool, and to me, it sounds like a way to make a website like I used to think how you made them, by using a program to just draw and type with fonts and colours that u want.
Again, it's a tool. Feel free to code HTML by hand, if you want.
Yep, Dreamweaver is available for Mac as well. Good program.
I think ill give Dreamweaaver a try, but i still like to know how to do it by code.
Do you know HTML?
I know it pretty well, I'm starting to less tables now, and more CSS, but I do know HTML alright.
