Title: Cryptozoology, anyone?
Post by: wraith1701 on August 02, 2008, 12:58:34 PM
Cryptozoology: The study of and search for animals which fall outside of contemporary zoological catalogs. It consists of two primary fields of research:

    * The search for living examples of animals taxonomically identified through fossil records, but which are believed to be extinct.
    * The search for animals that fall outside of taxonomic records due to a lack of empirical evidence, but for which anecdotal evidence exists in the form of myths, legends, or undocumented sightings.

A couple of examples popped up in the e-news this past week-

The Montauk Monster?

This thing was allegedly found washed up on a beach on Long Island.  What is it?  Photoshop job?  Genetic mutation?

Interesting. The bloatedness would be of something that has been in the water for a while. Wouldn't want to come up against that in the dark

The beak sure looks like a turtle. This reminds me of the "Dragon" baby they found in UK a few years ago. People all were excited about it but eventually it was a hoax.

I pride myself on not being afraid of spiders; heck; I've kept them as pets.  But a spider that can trap and eat a bird?!?  No thanks!  :o

Spider eats bird

THESE amazing images of a mammoth spider devouring a bird were taken in the backyard of an Atherton property, west of Cairns.

And the images, which are being cirulated via email worldwide, are real, according to wildlife experts.

The photos, believed to have been taken earlier this week, show the spider clenching its legs around a lifeless bird trapped in a web.

Joel Shakespeare, the head spider keeper at NSW's Australian Reptile Park, told ninemsn that the spider was a Golden Orb Weaver.

Wow, natures way of reminding us that little things are often the most dangerous.

Shell oil company caught some video footage of a weird squid with 'elbows' on its tentacles.  Check it out-
