Hi guys,
I have a Pioneer DV-400V upscaling DVD player hooked up via HDMI to my Samsung LCD TV (1080i). I went to watch a DVD tonight and the auido was very tinny and compressed-sounding. I fiddled with the audio settings, switched the HDMI cable from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and checked the cable was well seated on both ends. Up until now there had been no issues. If I connect the player via composite video, the audio sounds fine, unfortunately my TV won't accept an analog audio singal along with the HDMI (not sure why) or I'd just live like that.
I guess my next step is to try a different HDMI cable (which means I'll have to buy/order one). Once I rule that out I guess it may be time for a new player. I've only had this one a few months.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or have any other ideas?
Frustrating!
I'm guessing you tried different DVD's and saw the same thing on all? Do you have only one HDMI input plug on the TV? If you need a new cable, try here: www.monoprice.com Great stuff, great prices.
Yeah I tried 3 different DVD's and I tired both HDMI plugs on the TV. One thing I noticed was my Wii was sitting on top of my DVSD player and where it was sitting the DVD player was VERY hot. I moved the Wii and I'll try a new cable but I have a feeling I may have fried something.
AHH! Heat! The bane of electronic equipment.
Yeah, I wonder if I should even bother with a new cable.
Well...I just tried it out again and the sound is back to normal...maybe it just needed to cool off.
That's very interesting. I'm not an expert on these things, but I'm guessing there is some chip processing going on to decode the audio. Sounds like it's time to rearrange things a bit. I'm curious, but has it been warmer in your house lately where you have your TV, etc? I have noticed that people sometimes have more trouble with electronics in the summer months. One reason most of my gear is in my basement.
Yeah, I pulled the Wii off of the DVD player and put it on the stand on the floor next to the TV. I'm pretty sure the issue was this:
Until yesterday the A/C in my building was off (stupid Toronto bylaw) so we had to have our windows open. The window in the living room was right behind the tv. Since the A/C went on I closed the window. I guess since that airflow right behind the tv was gone, things got hotter then before.
My TV stand is a too small Ikea dealie which we need to replace so I have it jammed pretty full of stuff. Since I move the Wii out the DVD player is by itself on a shelf now with plenty of air around it.
We've started looking for a house and once we find one I'll be ecstatic. I'll be able to have a proper setup.
Really important to keep air flow going. Try and keep things on different shelves or as what i used to do is simply plug the dvd player in when you need it, if you are short of space thats what i used to do, plus you save money on electricity. At least you got it all working now.
