I was listening to the This Week in Tech podcast for this week and they were talking about this site called Archive.org. One neat feature of this site is it lets you look at old web sites, the way they used to look. It's called the Way Back Machine. Just type in a URL and it will take you to a listing of dates when they captured what the home page of a site looked like. I tried my original domain, www.treksf.com to see how it has changed over the years.
You can play with this feature and others all at: http://www.archive.org/index.php
This site is great. I've used it to look at what websites that I work on for my job have looked like before I showed up. Also fun to look back at big sites like google, amazon, cnn, microsoft etc.
I used to frequent the archive for all the incredible music downloads they had/have available in MP3 and lossless formats. They used to host almost every Grateful Dead concert ever recorded, which was quite alot, before they were asked to take them down a couple years ago. There's tons of great music available for legal download over there. They also have some great video, tons of public domain movies that they host for free. Last time I checked Night of the Living Dead (the original) and Reefer Madness were two of the most downloaded films from their site. There's lots of fun to be had over at Archive.org.
