Title: Rank the Indy Movies
Post by: saunders on May 23, 2008, 06:27:55 AM
Indy 4 is out, and I thought it would be interesting for those that have seen it to rank the Indy movies 1 - 4.  How does the new one fit into the lineup?  It might change over the next months as you think about it and watch it a few more times, but what is your initial ranking?
This is probably the only movie series that lines up in order for me:

Raiders
Temple of Doom - I know most don't like this as well, but I've always loved the darkness, and the fact that the atmosphere is so different than Raiders.
Last Crusade
Crystal Skull

Just out of curiosity I checked how they're currently ranked at IMDB.  Here's what they have:
Raiders (8.7)
Crystal Skull (8.6)  - wow, almost as high as Raiders
Last Crusade (8.3)
Temple of Doom (7.4)

I like them all.  For me, they are all much more fun than most movies being made these days.  I would have a hard time ranking them.

Is this because of the # of votes?

I think the IMDB rankings are an average of everyone that submits with a highest of 10.

Personally, my list in order is the same as IMDB

I haven't seen 4 yet, but I would rank the first three in the order that they were released.  From favorite to least, they are

-Raiders

-Temple Of Doom

-Last Crusade

After seeing the "Crystal Skull" today I would have to say...

1. Raiders
2 Last Crusade
A very close third is Crystal Skull
4 Temple of Doom.

And btw I think that Crystal Skull is ranking so high at the moment because it is new and fresh. I think it will sink a bit as time goes on....not because it is bad or anything...just because perspective takes a while sometimes.

You sadly have a point there....:(

I see a lot of people on other boards ranking ToD as their favorite sequel, primarily because they don't like the humor of Last Crusade.

I'm not one of those people.  I'd nearly rank Last Crusade as my favorite.  Nearly.

I'll say:
- Raiders
- Last Crusade
- Crystal Skull
- Temple of Doom

However, I don't really believe you can rank movies right after they come out.  It's like how people wanted to rank Iron Man as the best superhero movie EVER during the weekend it came out.  Let's calm down there, I say.  The first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve has held up over nearly three decades.  Let's hold off on crowning Iron Man as the new king until at least the end of the summer.

I'd rank Ironman as the best recent superhero movie.

Mine is.
Raiders (perfect in every way)
Crusade (open cast and easily a classic)
Skull (nice, look forward to the DVD)
Temple (Still a good film but dated)

It's up there for me, too.

First to last:

Last Crusade
Crystal Skull
Raiders
Temple of Doom

Temple of Doom is one of my more hated movies simply because imho, its like a sore-thumb compared to all the other movies.  The dialog is kinda meh, the continuous disgusting scenes really distract from the movie and the screaming woman/kid makes my ears bleed.  Its too much of an anomaly to really make it a worthwhile movie.

Last Crusade has always been my favorite because it just flows and Indy and his farther have great scenes in this movie.  Crystal Skull imo is also very good and I'm sure it will stay that way throughout the years.
