Wii may be king in Japan (see related story), but in the United States, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is on the top of the gaming console heap.

The company that Bill Gates built announced yesterday that its Xbox 360 game console mopped the floor with Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3, selling more than 10 million units in the United States.

"History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle," Don Mattrick, a Microsoft senior vice president for Xbox development, said in a statement.

However, it should be noted that Wii is closing in fast on that lead with its impressive 8.8 million units moving off store shelves in the U.S., and Playstation 3 lags behind with only 4.1 million sold by comparison.

Microsoft also holds the record for global online gaming membership with over 12 million subscribers for its Xbox Live online gaming service.

Did you guys over there get the problem with the ring of death? eg when your green circle light suddenly turns red. I've got a XBox elite and its amazing but my mates have got the standard XBox and they have died. I love my console and having just completed call of duty 4 in a few days it just shows how much i love playing on it.

How many lights are red? the amount of red indicates the problem

Yeah starts off with one red curve at the top to warn you that either your console is over heating or to rest it. If the whole thing goes red its going to die. The early consoles suffer this but they have been replaced, well my friends have been, they had to send it to a place in Germany.

This is one of many hardware problems I've heard about the XBox360.....its why I'll probably never get one to be honest.  No I have not heard of a solution OTHER than send it back to the manufactuer and they can fix it....but the whole thing makes me lol as they should have fixed it by now.  /sigh....anyway, thats my rant.  Sadly, I'm just too much of a Wii fan.  Even though I lack a Wii :(  *cough* Christmas present *cough*

I know 5 people that have had to return theirs. The thing that stinks is that they send you a refurb back unlike Sony who sends back a brand new PS3.....

My 360 is fine but I rarely ever play it as I usually use the PS3 now.

Microsoft has been great about the returns.  Yes they have some problems, but they still have the best games around.  We actually have returned our first 360 twice.  Now it seems fine.  Unlike the XBOX 360 elite we also have which has had zero problems.

The worse one is actually the three lights. Four light means a cable isn't connected properly. 3 lights mean take it back to the shop.

I've had mine over a year and the only problem is that my drive hangs occasionally and that was my fault because I didn't open it right the first day I got it.
