Giddy with the success of "Iron Man" over the weekend, Marvel Entertainment released its first quarter report to shareholders today and confirmed the next four titles they're putting into production.

First up will be "Iron Man 2" which has been scheduled for April 30th 2010.

Matthew Vaughn's take on "Thor" is also set for release on June 4th 2010.

"The First Avenger: Captain America" will swing his shield on May 6th 2011.

The much anticipated superhero team-up "The Avengers" has been scheduled for July 2011.

The company's "Ant-Man" and "The Sub-Mariner" remain in development with no fixed release dates. Their "Wolverine" film remains on course for next May.

It's nice "Iron Man 2" is already being planned.  It will be interesting to see the other films too.

Iron Man 2 is a no-brainer; that film kicked a$$!  Good to see that an Avengers film is in the works as well; the extra scene in Iron Man sort of hints at it.  Based on their choice for Nick Fury, it looks like the film will be more like "The Ultimates" than "The Avengers", which is fine by me.  Ultimates (well, Ultimates One and Two) were incredible books.  Come to think of it, it seems that all of the Marvel films are set in the "Ultimate Marvel" universe, which makes sense.  All of the titles in the Ultimate line are more "real-life" in my opinion, which makes the transition to film a lot easier.  Seeing the X-Men, Daredevil, or Fantastic Four in the bright neon-colored uniforms of the regular Marvel universe just wouldn't work on film.

I wonder what the roster of the Avengers movie will be?  If we stick to the Ultimates comic, we would have Nick Fury, Iron Man, The Hulk, Cap, Thor, Hawkeye, Henry Pym and Wasp.  (Hopefully, the creepy sexual tension between Wanda and Pietro Maximov will be left on the cutting room floor.)

The thing is, I get the impression that the execs at Marvel are planning on sticking with characters who have already appeared on film.  That way, they can skip going into a lot of backstory that would be necessary for most non-comic fans.

Iron Man and the Hulk seem like a sure bet; both are part of the team in the Ultimate books and both have already made their debut on the big screen.  Who else do you guys think might make the cut?  Wolverine?  Spider-Man?

Capt. America, Thor, Iron Man Updates
By Garth FranklinThursday, May 22nd 2008 12:21am

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed to Sci-Fi Wire that the upcoming "The First Avenger: Captain America" will be a World War II period piece.

Feige says the film, scheduled for release in May 6th 2011, will serve to set up the eventual "Avengers" movie to be released six weeks later on July 1st.

He also dismissed the recent Matthew McConaughey casting talk, but did confirm the object glimpsed in Tony Stark's workshop in "Iron Man" is part of the character's shield.

As for other properties, "Iron Man 2" is still on schedule for April 30th 2010, with talks underway with director Jon Favreau to return.

"Thor" is scheduled for July 4th 2010 with Mark Protosevich ("The Cell") currently working on the script. A director will be announced later this Summer, and much of the action will be set in the mythical Norse realm of the gods - Asgard.

So we've got Cap, Iron Man, and Thor (and I guess the Hulk) already lined up!  With Sam Jackson portraying Fury, it looks like The Avengers will actually be The Ultimates!  I'm guessing the B-Leaguers like Hawkey, Black Widow, and Ant Man will be added in the film itself.

I'm pumped!!!  :metallica:
