And it was an amazing......pile of poo-doo. I would be hard pressed to think of a film I have seen recently where I actually wanted al lof the characters to die. The most annoying group of psuedo-hippster 20 somethings ever seen in a movie. The onlly interesting part was the monster and that was so infrequent. This film was a joke. How was the a success?

I liked it. It was innovative and different. And seeing it in a movie theater on opening day added a lot to the experience. A big crowd of people helps add to the effect and impact. I don't think you can get the impact or scares or thrills watching it on a TV at home.
P.S. But I will admit most the characters were kind of silly and lame.
I give them an "A" for concept but a "D" for the actual execution of that concept. The hand held cam thing worked in "Blair Witch Project" but that trick is hard to replicate when you need to tell a huge effects laden story. Sometimes it felt effective, other time sit was clearly a directorial manipulation that kept taking me out of the home video mode. It just didn't seem to work. All the characters were just so not credible and their actions were beyond belief.
The monster stuff was great but way too short. JJ should have just re-done Godzilla and let us have fun!
Well all I can say is it made a ton of money and they are doing another one.
OK, I just got done watching. I don't really know what to think. Cool idea, strange at the same time. The monster was way cool looking, the acting was so so.
I think if I watched it a couple of more times that it might grow on me.
The little monster lice were probably the scariest. Yuck! :)
Anyway, I am in the middle on this film.
I dug it, my wife hated it. She really doesn't like any movie where everyone dies but I thought they showed just enough and didn't show just enough here amd there to make it cool. Like what in the frak happened to that one girl after she got bit and taken away? Did they shoot her or did something else happen. I also thought it was cool how at the end when the tape cuts back to the ferris wheel on Coney Island you actually see the creature hit the water in the background as a meteor...well that is was I thought it was anyway. I'll give it 2-1/2 outta 4 stars. It entertained me for an hour and a half and that is all I can ask from a movie.
The film was a great weekend flic; it was fun to watch. Can't imagine it being entertaining past the first viewing, though. Once you've seen the monster and know how the story ends, there's not much there. Which makes me wonder about the sequel rumors. The film's draw was its novelty, which won't be there in a sequel.
Just got done watching it myself. I was worried that the 'handheld camera' shtick would be annoying, which is why I avoided it in the theaters. I remembered how sea sick I got with the jittery camera movements in '28 weeks after' on the big screen. I thought it would not be as bad on a smaller screen, and it wasn't.
Overall my opinion of it; to quote Eric Cartman is... "weak."
The acting was unconvincing, and because the characters were never developed I never cared about what happened to any of them. The 'camera view' shtick wore thin real quick, and severely handicapped the storytelling.
The only thing it did well was its visual effects.
