Season Seven Plot
Note: This is simply a basis with which to build upon. We have not defined the race, the planet, the reasons for why things happen, or the solutions. We are leaving it open ended but writers should share ideas and collaborate with one another in threads, Skype calls and PMs instead of determining the course of the story on their own.
The mission of the Arabella is to explore, but on its way to the Beta Quadrant, Quinn is asked to investigate the disappearance of three Federation Scientists. Ten scientists were observing the culture of a newly discovered world. The planet's various minerals interfere with scans and so the planet's geology prevents orbital study. The only way to observe this culture was to spread out and live among the natives... The ten scientists are each alone and stretched between the two hemispheres of the planet. These scientists were to make contact with their higher-ups every six months, but after three of them missed their check in time, the higher-ups contacted Vulcan, the closest Federation world, to report the missing scientists and the strange happenings occurring among the natives. The people of this world have developed a culture that is equal to that of the Middle Ages on Earth. Since the scientist's arrival, the natives have begun to progress too quickly. The missing scientists are suspected of contaminating the culture with technology... the reasons are unknown.
The people are now in turmoil... witch-hunts are the response that some kingdoms give to the technological advancements. The scientists are in danger and the culture of these people is in chaos. The Arabella must retrieve the scientists and investigate the true reasons behind the culture's advancements in farming, industrialism, architecture and medical advancements. Are the scientists responsible? Or is there something or someone else behind the progress?
Two teams of crewmen are disguised as natives and are spread throughout the planet. Sevryll is in command of a science and medical team and Quinn is in command of the security and engineering team. Aeric James will remain on Arabella as commanding officer and will oversee the study of any technology beamed aboard by the teams. Counselor Margon will accompany the medical team to study the effects of this rapid progression on the people.
This mission was created to give all writers a means of participating. In our discussions the majority of writers wanted to study a new culture. This story line is a blend of several ideas proposed in the Skype meeting.
We will begin the season with a post describing Arabella's departure. Soon after we will post a briefing where senior staff will discuss the mission. After this our plan is to begin with a "in route" holoprogram that will allow for the new crew to bond and experience a taste of what the culture of the world they are headed to is like. The program will be the Camelot program that writers voted on a few seasons ago. This will be a fun opportunity for people to do joint posts and explore their characters a bit as we get to the planet and build up to the mission.
This will be great and much fun!!
:cheers
To the Arabella!

Good start everyone. I'm really enjoying the posts. I have just few points on RPG etiquette that I'd like you all to keep in mind as you interact with other characters. Especially for newbies and folks who aren't used to collaborating with other writers.
Do not abruptly end a scene, especially if there are many people who are involved in that scene. Kenny and I try to give everyone an opportunity to react to briefings and if you write, for example, that everyone leaves the room it can close the door on the opportunity for others to respond.
Also, if you have a chance to do a joint post with one or more individuals please do this rather than writing responses for them. Very few know a character like the writer who created them. Verbiage my not sound right to them, responses may be off...etc. Unless it's a very minor thing, like "how are you today?" "I'm fine thank you".... please collaborate. If you think that something was written that was 'out of character' for your character, please do not hesitate to contact the person who wrote it and ask them to edit or offer an alternative. Try to be diplomatic in your methods. :)
And finally, try not to place people in a scene or require them to be somewhere without talking to the person who is writing for them first. They may have something else in mind and your post might throw a wrench in their plans. Collaborate with other writers through PMs, AIM, emails, skype and forum posts. I have found that when I collaborate with others my posts are more than one dimensional. Collaborating makes the writing more like role playing. It's a lot of fun and I think others would agree.
Thanks!

Camelot Holodeck Program
Those going on the mission are required to participate in the training session that will be held in the holodeck. Have fun with your characters and their choice of medieval costumes (have them research first and choose something appropriate for the era of course). Go "pick up" other officers who are joining us and walk with them through the corridors, ride turbolifts or run into the lounge for a quick bite in your costume. It would be fun to read about the reactions of other crewmen. Then start heading to the holodeck. Sevryll and Quinn will direct you at some point in the program.
If you have a character who is a scientists (any field) , medical officer (nurse or doctor), security/tactical, engineering, etc. you are going on the away mission. Ryla Drett is remaining behind to fill in for Doctor Peterson. As second officer, Aeric James is remaining behind to command the ship. Both will be studying anything that gets beamed back for analysis since the away teams cannot do a thorough job on the surface. If you don't want your character to go, they don't have to... but you'll need to keep yourself occupied on the ship by helping Drett and James.
Hey everyone, I need some help. I am going to be gone from Saturday through Tuesday with little or no access to a computer. I am running in the Boston Marathon on Monday. :)
Anyway, I need someone to take on K'arath for me in the holodeck. He needs to participate somehow. He is on his way to the holodeck now wearing a ridiculous suit of armor. i did that for a joke and was planning, after you all have a good laugh, to let him change into something more like a Ranger or Gondor type of outfit for more practicality.
Also, Wraith or Hawkeye, could one of you guys bring along Ensign Dunn?

I'd be happy to write for K'arath, and if Med's isn't using Dunn, I'll write him as well. It's always easier to write a scene if there are other characters to interact with. :)
By the way, have fun on the run! :thumbsup

Your the man! Thank you and have fun with them. K'arath be the fish out of water until the sword start clashing and Dunn will be, in general, a little confused!!!
Yeah go ahead and use Dunn mate. If you want a little interaction with Joe involved as well let me know. Otherwise bring on the swords and be prepared to feel the effects of muld wine.

A joint post sounds cool... I'll PM you.
Good Morning all you RPG'ers,
I know the rpg has been kind of slow lately, Jen and I have been extremely busy with work/life. I hope to get the Camelot ball rolling in the next few days. Those of you who haven't posted your character going to the holodeck can still do that. Those that are there already can post your character mingling with the locals. The point of this holo-adventure is to let everyone have a bit of fun while trying to understand this medieval culture.
I do have a question, is my character involved with Camelot? I don't remember reading any specifics. I'm kinda out of touch right now.

I don't know. I assumed that you would be manning the ops station on the alpha shift since Aeric will be occupied with the ship. I also assumed that any department heads going on the mission would leave their assistants in charge of their departments. I might be wrong, but I'm sure that someone would clarify it.
That was my guess too. I didn't think that Rava would be going on the mission as he's both:
A: He's new.
B: Umm, unexperienced

This isn't absolutely true. It's pretty variable and flexible right now. But I would check with Jen or Kenny to make sure.

If you want him to go on the away mission, I don't think that would be an issue. If you want to stay on the ship, I'd be happy to post with ya!
Several people are a bit confused as to who is going on the away mission and who is staying on the ship. As the bulk of the story will be happening on the away mission, Jen and I wanted to include as many people as possible. Most of us have our main character and then we have secondary characters and NPC's. We were hoping that almost all main characters would be going on the way mission with exception of Aeric James who will need to remain on the ship in command. Also it sounds like Zremm and Ronan will remain on the ship. Everyone else's main character would be going down on the away mission. If you do not wish to be part of the main story (away mission) and want to remain on the ship that is fine also. There will be a minor B story happening on the ship but as I have said we hoped everyone would be joining us on the away mission.
Here is a list of who is going on the away mission
Quinn
Sevryll
Peterson
K'Tan
Valcore
Margon
Farmer
Reese
Rayna
Aria James
D'Callen
K'arath
and of course various NPC security crewmen
Staying on the ship
Aeric
Zremm
Ronan
Drett
Shyn
Took
Myella Peterson
and all NPC Characters
I hope this clears up the confusion. If there are any questions or issues then please PM Jen and I (Startrekfanatic5)
I don't mind staying on the ship. This character is still going through the development stage and thats always tricky and I need time to write out his personality a little more fully. So, no, I don't mind staying.

Oh great, you guys are going to kill me red shirt Ensign Dunn, aren't you! ;)

Shhhh! It's supposed to be a secret! ;)
Doh!
In the Camelot program, I'd like to have Mackie (Ensign Farmer) be a knight's squire. Would anybody like to take on a squire?
Hi. In my last post, where the Captain was declared "kidnapped", I wrote that the Knights of the round table is made up of both crewmen and holoknights. Feel free to insert your character into this group...I left it open so as not to pin any of you down if you didn't want to be a knight of the round table. They are going to find the captain with Sevryll (who's playing the part of Gwenivier) and Aria who are breaking their roles as females of the era to join the band. They'll be picking up more group members along the way, so if you want, you can join as a peasant, merchant or minstrel, who witnessed the kidnapping or a Ranger who knows a short cut or whatever. Desi, if you want you can be any of the holoknight's squires or you can be Sevryll's. She's going to need some armor!
This will be a training exercise for the away team. They'll be searching for scientists on this planet we're going too... so looking for Quinn will give them a chance to mingle with the locals and do some investigative work. Iceman, she told the knights to include a physician...that was your invitation to join the band... just insert yourself into the scene when every you are ready.
Again, this program is free form... Be creative. :)
Willdo I am writing a joint post with Rick Moyer so my next post I will be in the holodeck.
RPG HUDDLE
OK team, Kenny and I want to find out how long you want the Holodeck training session to continue. Some folks were initially unsure of what to do, so they didn't post right away and there was a lull for a while. There are others who are very busy right now, like Kenny and I. I'm actually going to be freed up soon but I want to keep the pace of the story lively and the season flowing as a cohesive story. It seems to be wandering and the pace is slowing a little.
Lets start putting our heads together and work up a game plan. :) We can discuss a possible resolution for the training program and a transition to the mission, in this thread. As a group we can come up with ideas here and collaborate in posts to move the story along.
So my questions are, should we abort the training mission and drop off our passengers at Starbase 35 and get on with the mission ASAP, or are you enjoying the holodeck?
Once we get to the actual mission... we will need more participation. Will you be able to post more if you collaborate with others?
Here's my idea if you want to end the training session: Quinn just left the holodeck because he was needed on the bridge and our characters are all on a wild goose chase, looking for him in Camelot. The program could be abruptly ended when Quinn contacts Sevryll to tell her they have arrived at the Starbase and he is docking the ship.
Here's my idea for sticking to the training session: Quinn is being held hostage by another Kingdom. We speak to locals along the way who point us in the right direction. We may even pick up a few people on our "trek" (writers who are playing peasants). We send a super stealthy individual into the castle, he/she drops the drawbridge we sneak in and rescue the captain... Of course, that's right off the top of my head. Post your suggestions to end the training session or continue it. :)
I like the holodeck idea a lot, it offers a lot of opportunities for some really fun posts. My only concern is that if we commit to it, a holodeck adventure could take up an entire season all by itself. I'm afraid that if we really get into the holodeck story, we might not get to the main mission until sometime this summer.
Any other views?

Yes... I don't want this to take over our main story. That's why I vote we end it as soon as possible.
I like this idea-

I'm glad you all realized this, too. This could be an entire season on to itself. I'd much rather get going on the mission.
I have to agree. I was unsure of what to do with the holoprogram, but I have a few ideas about the planet.
I've been a little busy as well, but I'm still here. I would rather get to the meat of the season sooner than later, but that's just my vote.
I'm good with anything. I just got in the post I wanted to make for the holodeck program.
OK, so except for a couple who haven't posted yet...we all agree. Is everyone down with my idea for Quinn jetting from the program to be on the bridge? Do you have any ideas/suggestions for the story, or is everyone opting for my solution?
Right now, I have noooo idea what to do. I really need to talk with someone about this.

Well i've been really enjoying writing with wraith regarding the holo session but am happy to go with Jens idea as i'm sure we'll carry on writing together every now and again once the mission starts. I do feel we could do a whole season on the holo deck so maybe getting to the mission would be the best thing. Hope to carry on with you though Eric, some great writing going on.
...or you just leave us in here and make this season 7.

...or you just leave us in here and make this season 7.
Does anyone agree with Bryan's idea? Should I put up a poll for the two ideas? Remember this is our first season as a vessel of exploration... we could leave the idea we originally had for next season.
My opinion is thus: If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
However ... while I am greatly enjoying the writing that is happening, the holodeck program is slightly confusing to some of our players that don't know where to fit in.
Unfortunately, I think that this has nothing to do with the direction of the story, but the location. Without being ordered there to train, I don't see some of the characters wanting to spend a lot of time in the location.
Also, it's hard for people coming in to figure out what roles their characters are taking. Back when the voting took place, the crew was pretty different from the current group of active players. At that time people were going to be random knights of the round, but that has changed into just random people in the setting.
This limits the connection of the characters to the progress of a holonovel. If the knights go off, we have tavern wenches, blacksmiths, and hunters that won't fit into the idea of the quests that might happen.
I think that if we were to assign characters to some of the key players, that would afford for better interaction between the people on the holodeck.
I also think that while the holodeck would be great for a season of play, it doesn't work for everyone and something will need to be done for those people that don't find the Earth Dark Ages as a place they would spend their off time. I'm not suggesting another holoprogram for them, but something on the ship, story-wise, that will allow them to have some excitement.
Most of these things were addressed in the story and the OOC. Quinn did order the staff to the training session in the briefing at the beginning of the season. In this OCC, I broke down who would be going on the mission by describing the types of officers that would be assigned to the away teams. I said, if you are a scientist, security officer or engineer you could on the away mission— that this season was designed to allow all of the writers the chance to go on the mission. I also pointed out that those people going would have to arrive in the holodeck for the training session, as ordered by Quinn. When a few folks were still confused, Kenny listed the names of the officers who were going.
I also posted in the OOC that those knights going could gather up the miscellaneous characters to join their group (i.e. peasants who witnessed the capture of the King, rangers who know short cuts, the doctor, etc). It is already open for everyone to join in. If we need to assign key roles we can do that, but the tools are already there for everyone to use.
Hmmm it's tricky. I think we could easily go back to the Camelot programme as it's enjoyable but we do have people not in the holodeck so it's not very fair for them. Though we could do a story of a problem with the holo programme and the people in the holo deck get stuck and safety measures go off and the the rest of the RPGers then do a story trying to get us out of the holo deck. That's just an idea, we would then have two stories going on. On the other hand I'm also happy to go with anyone Else's idea's.
Hey Meds.. I like your idea of a malfunctioning Holodeck but not at this time since this ship is only a few days old. I can't see the holodecks malfunctioning already.
As for what to do...
I am enjoying the writing that is happening now in the holodeck. But we did not set this up to be a main story. This was just suppose to be a fun two to three week mini adventure to get us to our main story. We left a lot of the Camelot story open so our rpgers could have leeway in where the story goes. This is not how we normally do our stories as you all know. When we get to the main storyline we will assign people jobs and away missions, Jen and I will give more direction and have more control over the story.
This current story was not meant to be a main story so I say we end this sooner then later and move on to our main story. If we want to come back to this in a future season I'm cool with that.. and I like the idea Meds had that we get stuck in the Medieval times while a group tries to get us out. But for now let's finish this mini story and move on... those are just my opinion and will do what the majority wants.
I appreciate the democracy of it all, but you and Jen just need to make the call on this and move the story on.
Well Jen and I have always tried to run this rpg as a democracy as we both feel if folks are involved with the decision they are more likely to participate. That is why we brought this topic up. Many of you have given us your opinion and Jen and I have decided to end the holodeck Camelot program in the next few days. Quinn will be on the bridge and contact Servyll and let her know we have reached Starbase 35 to drop off her family. The holodeck story will end then and we will take a few days to get to the planet where our next mission will happen. Once there we will assign members to each away team and begin the mission.

I can understand this and agree with the idea of democracy, but I think that Bryan has a decent point.
When you and Jen lay down the core of a season, they seem to flow better. If we look at the last few season as an example, I think people are more comfortable writing when they have a better idea of what's expected.
From a writing standpoint, I think, for me, it's easier to write when I have a solid idea on what should be happening. Don't get me wrong, I love free form, but I think that when you and Jen establish the boundaries for a season, it flows better. People, mainly me because I can only speak for my self, find it easier to come up with ideas when they need to fall between point A and point B.
As Kenny stated in the post above

You were simply to have fun in the holodeck while playing the part of the Knights of the Round. The reigns will be tighter for the duration of the story.
Yes, X and I are very linear. :)
The yoke of leadership is a heavy burden Capt. Quinn. :lol2
I personally like the Camelot holodeck simulation. Which was suppose to be our crew's way of relaxing - right? From that vote a long time back. I think the tricky part is how to both have some fun and train for this away mission - both at the same time. That's the part we might need a little nudge here and there on.
Seems like people are having fun with the holodeck training. I have a plan for wrapping it up but I'm going to let it play out before I end the simulation. I want to make it grueling so when everyone discovers Quinn was never missing in the first place our characters all get a little frustrated by it all before finally deciding they actually did learn something from it all.
Good job everyone! I enjoyed Omra's post with Shyn and her roommate. Very well done. I also thought Rico's scene with Zremm and Marie was great.. but where's Mr. Zremm now? :D He's late!
I think the Iceman's post was good too—way to jump in there. I loved K'ararth heroic entry in our joint post—way to go Bryan! I could totally picture that scene. I've been entertained by Wraith and Med's collaborations, though Mr. D'Callen needs to edit his thoughts before they come out his mouth or he's going to be busted down to ensign. :D LOL...I've enjoyed our collaborations.
And I'm having fun as usual posting with Just X. Once again, great job everyone. Keep it up, and try to keep up with the story...you don't want to fall behind. It seems like the posts are picking up. :)
We're going to continue this season. It's rolling along nicely and I don't see the point in jarring the progress by ending the story at this point. The beauty of a project like this is that there are no deadlines or schedules to meet. We can write the same story for a year if we want to....many sims do. Remember our previous stories have lasted up to three or four months this one is only about a month old.
I can address whatever information we want to "skip" in a Captain's or First Officer's log. I've been meaning to add more of those anyway for foreshadowing.
Let's discuss what the aliens look like here. I personally don't want Sevryll to have two heads or five arms. I know it's been called a "cop out" for aliens to simply differ from humans by the addition of spots, bumps or pig noses but that's the vision of Star Trek I have in my head and it doesn't bother me. Thoughts from RPG members?
Also, lets think about the climate/environment of this world. If you read the first few posts in this section, you'll see that we decided that the teams will be split between two hemispheres. I could just decide for you, but I'm giving you the option because I like to have fun when doing this too. And part of the fun is collaboration. So offer your constructive suggestions here.
Please remember, if you have something you want to write for a character that is not yours, rather than write the thoughts/dialog for that writer, please consult with the person they belong to. Unless you frequently write for this character and the writer they belong to is cool with your depiction of this person... then leave that portion that requires a reply blank...Write 'insert dialog here' and send your post to the person you are including.
Lets collaborate more often. I think it moves the story along and keeps the story cohesive.
I think that Trek did a good job in establishing why the races look similar. I don't see a need to make new non humanoid races for the purpose of being different.
My thoughts are roughly this:
Human like in form. Slender pointed ears about twice the length of a vulcan, giving them a more elven look than a vulcan.
They can have copper based blood, but it flows clear when not expose to air and runs blue when they are cut (like mollusks). This would give them very soft skin tones ranging a porcelain like white to a smooth tan color. and an almost luminescence to them.
I think that's my suggestion.
I like Just X's idea of an Elven looking race.
I would prefer they have a protective pigmentation though, like a bronze or maybe even a copper. And maybe reflective white hair also caused from their planets close proximity to their sun.
I see the environment looking very Lord of the Rings as opposed to Camelot.
Why not a mix of both? It's an alien planet; who knows what type of environment and society we are going to encounter. As far as tech goes, I don't see all that much difference between LOTR and Camelot. Maybe the aliens could be vaguely elfin in appearance, with a societal structure similar to what existed in Authurian legend.
As far as the alien's pigmentation...
Both X's and Omra's ideas sound pretty cool. And since we are going to two different hemispheres, we could go with both skin types... maybe the latter are from one part of the planet, and the former from another. Hell; I think it would be cool if they had a wide variety of superficial differences; maybe some could be blue or red. There's no telling what kind of environmental factors played a part in their evolution. IDIC, right? ;)

I don't want to speak for Bryan, but I agree with a more LOTR feel. Sure the tech is the same or close to the same as Camelot, but it architecture is vastly different. I think of more the look than the tech when I compare the two ideas.
Oh I forgot to add, I would also like to see a more LOTR elven type society as opposed to the Arthurian type. Cities and nations run by council as opposed to a singular King.
I think that this would play well to the holotraining as well. With nothing to go on, what are the odd that they are going to get huge portions of the society right? It should be unexpected and something that they need to adapt to.
So far, I haven't seen anything in any of the ideas that I object to.
I agree with Just X in terms of Societal structure. There could be clans, or even feudal lords. I would really like to see a clan that is very in sync with nature, so as to be a clear a juxtaposition to the other clan which has been contaminated by the Federation Scientists.
Here are a few questions that I wanted to pose that might help to rapidly flesh out the world:
1) How long does this race live?
2) If we can't scan their planet, how do we know that they don't have advanced technology or is warp capable or was at some point but decided to stay home? ( Yeah I know that's a long one)
3) How many continents?
4) World government or broken into smaller rule?
5) Do they cover the planet or are there placed they they have yet to discover on their world?
6) What's the land to water ratio?
7) Is this planet more like a desert, forest, jungle, tundra, or earth like combination?
8) How many moons?
9) How long is a day or year?
10) Is the humanoid species the apex predator?
11) What color is the sun?
2) If we can't scan their planet, how do we know that they don't have advanced technology or is warp capable or was at some point but decided to stay home? ( Yeah I know that's a long one)
The scientists have been studying this world for decades, while living amongst the people. I would venture to guess they have mapped the region and studied the society. Their technology is not warp capable... this is why the Federation Scientists are scrambling to find their missing people. They are suspected of influencing the culture by violating the Prime Directive. Which is essentially the reason we have been sent to recover them and investigate the nature of these advancements. I'd say their advancements go as far as curing recently incurable diseases, they have developed telescopes, printing presses, gun powder... these sorts of advancements. Let's say they've moved, technologically, from the medieval period the Renaissance period.

How about a place that's geologically unstable and biologically lush? Semi-active volcanoes, moving plates, hot springs... this might play host to a great variety of plant and animal life.
Great writing guys. I feel like the story improves with every post... our characters may not be on a mission yet, but there's a lot of character development, foreshadowing and prep for the mission going on. Good job! Keep collaborating, and continue to read the posts, if you can, every time you come to the forum. Try to make it a habit to check the RPG for new posts... this is the BEST way not to fall behind if you are able to swing by the TrekSF boards. Also, remember to use the "notify" feature that is at the top and bottom of this page. You'll see it on the right of the screen in a navigation bar that says "Reply, Notify, Add Poll, Send This Topic and Print". If you click "notify" then each time a new post is added to the RPG, the forum will send you a auto response message with the post included in the email. Easy enough right? ;)
Again, GREAT JOB!!!!

Heads up.
Just to let everyone know, the scanners/sensors' inability to work is a plot device designed to make the story more unique and to allow all the characters, whether they're on the ship or on the ground, a chance to do something. No new technology will enter this story in order to rectify this technological hurtle.
Also, please don't make any more NPCs without sending them to Kenny and I for approval. Obviously the need for new characters will arise, but there are several NPCs that are already in existence who are just sitting around collecting dust. When possible, please use these characters instead of creating new ones. If you still think you need a new character, send them to Kenny and I first for approval. Thanks :)
My recent post about Zremm working on creating a sensor web was exactly that - something for him to work on while staying on the ship. I thought it made sense that he wouldn't just stop trying to work on getting better sensors in place. Remember on how many, many Trek episodes they would pull some technobabble out of their ______ and work out a solution. Like Jen said above this isn't really a solution, just something to work on and tinker with. I hope I didn't make it sound like more than that in my post.
All three of Shyn's roommates were submitted to you way back when we were first trying to work out the bunking assignments for my characters. Hooch on the other hand was a mistake that eventually worked out.
But I learned from that mistake and I would never throw anyone else into the mix without running them by you first.

I'm referring to the Character Profiles specifically. As I've mentioned many times before, we want to see those before they're posted, Main and NPCs. I'm sorry, but I do not recall all of these characters. I'm not saying that you didn't send them to me, I'm saying my memory is not A+ and I don't have a record of your PM that you sent way back when. So before you post the actual profile, please submit it to us first.
And as I've mentioned in PMs and on the Ready Room there is a format that we have for the profiles... it makes it easier to read if they are laid out this way. Please take the time to reformat when you have a chance. The template is located here: http://www.treksinscifi.com/forum/index.php?topic=1515.0
As for the technology thing. Since I worked with Rico on that post, I knew that Zremm's probe idea wasn't going to be a fix all. My mention of the plot point, here in the OOC, was to make sure that this was clear to everyone. I assumed as much when we made the outlines for this season, but you know what they say about assuming. So that's why I said "Heads Up". It wasn't my intention to make it sound as though I was rapping a ruler on anyone's knuckles. I was trying to call attention to the post ;)
I was wondering who some of those people were!
FYI, I edited my post for Sevryll. Rick corrected me, Margon didn't leave the briefing. I read his last post as though he had an appointment or something. Sorry Rick! :D I took that bit out.
Describe your character's appearance either in passing reference to your surgery or describe the scene as it happens. Post about your characters' mission preparations afterwards, and then I'll move the story along. I posted three surgeries just to paint a picture of what Peterson, Sevryll and Quinn look like. If you want to refer to your own that would be great. I will then move on to the actual mission on Friday afternoon/evening. I'll be out of town Memorial Day, so have at it.
Have fun, be imaginative. I'm enjoying the posts so far. ;)
J
What were the color options and look of the indigenous again?
Here's the post that detailed the planet and the peeps:
Sevryll looked over Nathan's shoulder as he skimmed the files that were forwarded to his in Ready Room from the Starbase. "Well, we already know the planet is geologically unique, but what exactly does that mean? Let's see what we're up against, shall we?" asked the captain as he keyed a command and the computer. Instantly the monitor began to rotate charts and topographical maps relating to the planet Ter'Oss. The world was vast and diverse, consisting of both temperate and frigid regions. A picture of an ice mountain dotted with cold hearty flora soon replaced an image of petrified forests, emerging from wind swept volcanic sand dunes. The next revolution of images revealed emerald oceans, bays and harbors beset with an armada of sailing ships. These too were soon supplanted as more images moved into view on the monitor; pictures of people astride great beasts, crossing plains blanketed in red grasses rotated on the screen.
Each image that followed presented the natives of Ter'Oss in greater detail. The people of this world were called Ter'Osicks and they were as diverse as the environments they hailed from. They were a graceful, beautiful people with long pointed ears that tipped back slightly. The Ter-Osicks resembled humans in every way, aside from this feature and their skin and hair color. The completions of the natives varied, depending on the region from which they came. Some were a turquoise hue, some jade, some sapphire blue, and others were as dark as the blackest Onex. Their hair and eyes varied as well. A number of people had eyes of green, blue, lavender, gold and brown. Hair color often corresponded with that of the eyes, yet there were a small number whose hair and eyes did not match. These people were of the upper and royal classes, commonly referred to as the "Blate" and the "Brock".
Not unlike the Medieval monarchy of Europe; the Brock ruled their provinces, marrying only other Brock. The Blate were the lords of these regions carrying out the law, overseeing the armies and governing the cities.
Their culture was saturated with mysticism and magic. Until a few months ago, their physicians had been the equivalent to witch doctors. Now they were budding medical doctors who had recently cured a blight that threatened the planet's population. Engineers, scientists, generals and philosophers had made similar advancements casting fuel on the suspicions of dubious Brocks who constantly sought any advantage against their enemies. These advancements fanned the flames of war and sparked inquisitions that would serve to eliminate potential threats to the security of sovereignties. The tensions seemed to accent the volatile nature of the planet—going hand in hand with the quakes that often shook the ground and brought castles down in heaps of smoking rubble.
"...Quaint," said Sevryll dryly, after Quinn turned from his computer to gain his first officer's assessment.
"Sarcasm is not a Vulcan strong suite," he replied with a grin.
She arched an eyebrow in response before adding, "there is much to prepare for. I will see to it that the department heads each have time to review this information. Perhaps we should meet after they've had a chance to study the files."
"Excellent," said Nathan as he walked Sevryll to the door. "Keep me apprised."
"Of course," replied the Vulcan as she proceeded to the turbolift. She turned before entering and asked in a quited tone, "any further word on Captain Bell's condition?"
Peeps? The aliens are made of brightly colored sugary meringue?
Yes and if you microwave them, they get really, really big and then blow up. :)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!! :roflmao
They also explode if you hit them with a cricket bat.
You're obsessed with my cricket bat ha ha ha.
I'm going to be out of town this weekend... but I'm coming back on Monday morning. If you guys need direction here are some ideas. Try to collaborate as often as possible as there are a lot of people involved:
-Continue to write about the surgical alterations
-Work with superior officers on mission preparations (collaborate with other writers)
-Collaborate to describe the shuttle trip to the surface and the base camp. Just X had a good idea with regards to this, consult with him... I liked the solution he had.
-Split up, decide who's in which landing party. Remember, each party has a group of engineers, medical officers, scientists and security officers. You can use NPCs from the NPC Section to round these out if necessary. Remember, Sevryll is heading up one group and Quinn is heading up the other.
Okay for those of you still around, we're going to continue doing what Jen suggested. Here are the key pieces of the plan that I should let you write about.
- There are going to be three transport vessels to the surface. Two Volga runabouts that have the holocloaks and the Aurora. Most teams will descent in one of the two runabouts and when it lands, they find their landing sites, the two runabouts will use the tech to blend into the surroundings like the holoship and the duckblind in Insurrection.
- We should work on who's going to be on each ship and the Aurora will be able to ferry major supplies to each site once setup since she has a better system and can move better while holo cloaked.
- We need to establish the teams but I would recommend that we have a medic, science, security, command, engineer and communications person on each team. Once we figure out who's on what team we can decide where they set down.
- Anyone that might be on the surface including the pilots of each ship will need modifications.
So three ships and a back up ship that will play the taxi once the other base sites are operational.
I am up to do some joint posts with Aeric or Aria and anyone that feels that their stories will intersect.
So that's about it, but I think that we can at the very least hit the planet by the time that the long weekend is over.
Hey X, why don't you put the teams together here in the OCC and then we can all collaborate.
Ummm sure, but I need to know who's all going Here is a partial idea:
Team 1:
Quinn, Peterson, D'Callan, Margon, Korridan (Pilot of runabout 1)
team one needs another scientist and engineer
Team 2:
Sevryll, K'arath, Aria, K'tan, Spring, Rina (Pilot of 2nd runabout)
Team two could use another security person and general scientist

This is close to what I was thinking. In addition to providing teams that are balanced crew-member wise, I think we should also look at how prolific the posters playing those characters are. Due to real-life constraints, some members aren't able to post as frequently as others. We might want to consider splitting the teams in a manner that will allow both teams' stories to progress at a steady rate. It would be awkward to have one team posting several times a day, and another posting once every couple of days.
As far as security goes, there are a bunch of characters to choose from. There's Bryan's NPC Dunn, as well as Shyn and Drah'Vehn.
Works for me. So how should we alter the breakdowns? Dunn can go with team one and shyn can be on team two. That gives each writer a person on both teams.
I'd like to keep shyn and Drah'Vehn together if possible as they are coming on great in the past posts. I'll try and write as much as i can but I'm getting married soon so am starting to run out of spare time. Plus we've just had another bereavement today so am a bit tied up. Happy to do joint posts but I'm afraid i may have to be a jumper (someone start off and I'll add my stuff in) which i know is not fair but i hope you understand.
Put Dunn with D'Callan on Team 1, then I can bounce between the two teams writing.

Shyn is a cat creature and will not be able to be completely altered.. she can not go on the away mission.
That makes perfect sense to me. I was thinking about that before I replied.
Thank you guys for working on the list for the landing parties. I think your solutions are well thought out. Something to keep in mind is if you're playing a main character on one team, you can also have a NPC on the other to help them write. I was thinking about having one of my NPCs, Ensign Nareen Tev-Awash (science) or Lt. Enapay Witko (engineering), on one of the other teams to make sure that the writing is kept up in both parties.
Oh, and if anyone wants to collaborate on a scene to describe the landing party... I'm back from the trip obviously and can help. PM me.
What was the plan submitted in the briefing for hiding the ship in orbit? Whoever posted that, can you post the detail here again?
I've started a post featuring Sevryll to get the mission started. It will be posted soon.
I apologize to everyone for the glitches and screwups that have been caused by my poor posting within the RPG. I have come to realize that what has transpired in my life over the course of these last two-plus months has taken a far greater toll on me than I wanted to admit.
On top of the usual 40+ hours of work per week, I have been serving on a Grand Jury two days a week. And while initially the only symptoms were tiredness and fatigue, it got worse. You see as a Jury gets more experienced and efficient they get progressively more complicated and difficult cases. And I mean difficult not only in terms of the evidence presented, I also mean difficult as in 'to listen to'.
The child molestation/porn/prostitution cases are the worst. I used to just drive home in a funk, but today I literally cried all the way home on my 30 minute commute from the courthouse. I am emotionally drained. Listening to these horrors week after week is taking its toll on me.
I am so lucky to have a boss that is so understanding. I used to joke around and chat with everyone at work but now they just leave me alone. I have grown distant and have even found my self developing that famous '1000 yard stare' I have heard about. My work has become as muddled as my writing here, but bless his heart my boss keeps encouraging me and checking in with me.
So to borrow a phrase from the courtroom, I am recusing myself from the RPG until the middle July. If this was simply a case of embarrassing myself with sloppy writing or having my characters referring to things you don't know about because I forgot to post them earlier, that would be one thing. But to become a burden to everyone else is intolerable to me.
You are my newest friends and you deserve better. I can't have you all cleaning up my messes for me, it isn't fair. My characters are not doing anything of importance right now so I do not think this should effect anything within the story.
My place of employment will be closing for two weeks in July and my term of service with the Grand Jury ends on the 17th of July. So hopefully I can rest up and clear my head of all the evils I have had to listen to by the middle to the end of July.
I thank all of you for your patience and understanding.
Hang in there friend. I understand what you are going through. If you need to talk, PM me.
Bless you!
Love,
Rick
Well I wish you the best.. will be here when you are ready to come back.
Hang in there. I hope things get better. We'll keep Korridan going until you get back.
Hang in there man. We'll be around when you get back. I can't imagine being the jury for that sort of sick stuff....come back as soon as possible.
An FYI to those who didn't know/figure it out. I am returning NEXT season whenever that is. I don't care if its a month from now as I still have some RL issues to work out. (Such as finding a job.)
Thanks
King
Hang in there mate we'll all be thinking of you. These things creep up on you and do finnally take their toll.
All the best, and we'll see you very soon.
Hi all. FYI, I will be out of town this weekend. My little niece (the one who will be playing N'Vall and M'Rynn) has turned four-years-old and we're celebrating at the zoo.
If you need direction for the RPG while I'm away, here are some options.
Sevryll's team: while KTan, Aria and Spring are gathering intel the rest of our characters can be preparing for the mission and/or relaxing until their return. Maybe someone brought a deck of cards and our characters are all playing poker in the shade of the runabout. Bryan, I think you and Meds are the only writers who have active characters remaining behind. But Meds will be out of town too, so you're flying solo. Feel free to use my character in your posts.
Aeric's team, you have to head back to Ter'Oss. Captain Quinn is on the Arabella again. The Courage Of Tiberius is in Shuttlebay 2 and Aeric James just boarded the ship. He is taking over for the Captain. Drett will be keeping an eye on him in Sickbay, but he's fine now that he's back on the Arabella. Land the ship in a unique area and describe the scene. Maybe check in with Sevryll to let her know what happened.
Those who have characters on the ship, help Zremm with the probe if you are a science or engineering officer. The rest can work on character development until the ground teams start sending data back for you to study.
Continue to encourage one another in the Comments and Complement section. That thread has gone dead. Everyone needs a pat on the back every now and then. I'm a little guilty of this too... Let's try to be more specific in our complements. Don't just say "Great job everyone!" Or "I'm really enjoying the posts." Single someone out and tell them what you like about their post or their character. Encourage them. Sometimes that's the best cure for writer's block and it can help to bring up the quality of posts. Offer suggestions here and complements there. :)
I can't wait to read what you've written when I get back. You guys are all doing a great job describing scenes. I want you to really bring this planet and its people to life. Treat it like another character. The same goes for those on the Arabella. Bring the ship to life. Describe the scenes your character sees. There doesn't have to be a single line of dialog in your post. Don't forget to do a little character developing for your own people as you write about their duties.
I'll talk to y'all Sunday or Monday night. Have a good weekend. :)
Thanks for the heads-up, Jen; have fun. :)
Omra- sorry to hear about the wringer the trial is putting you through. Hang in there, man; I look forward to your return to the forum. Your writing has been an asset to the RPG.
-Eric
For those of you that are on Aeric's team / Quinn's old team, let me know if you want to do a joint post. I'm going to write something quick about them returning to the planet, but we should do a joint post about them heading on the mission.
I just sent Jen a PM but I'll toss this question out there. With Quinn in sickbay and Aeric on the planet, who's in command of the Arabella currently?
LOL That would be the duty officer currently on the bridge. I don't have the name here but I think it's in the crew manifest. I think when the core staff leaves, the person on the duty shift takes command.
I see it like Nemeisis when Riker, Picard, Data, Troi, and Worf met Shinzon on his ship ... who else was left to run things?
So I'm pretty sure it's the duty officer, but I don't have a name for him ... I'd say Bob until we find who it really is.
BTW.. Quinn isn't sick.. he's fine Drett is over reacting, I'll be posting something as soon as I get a free moment.
***EDIT***
Here is a copy of the current crew manifest-
(http://www.treksinscifi.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=4466.0;attach=3463;image)
It's not a big thing, mainly curious since Zremm is on the bridge. I was thinking he might get a few minutes of center seat action! ;)
LOL I think you'll have to fight Mr. Tucker over that but since Aeric left with haste, he would have assigned someone to the big chair. Given his status on the ship, guess what ... you get the big chair until Tucker, Quinn, or someone with red on their tunic came and took over.
So go for it. Assume Aeric gave blue boy the bridge on his way out.
Yes, I intended to write the scene as though Peterson and Drett as though were being over-protective. I also advanced the time line 12 hours in my last post so by now Quinn's probably back in the saddle.
FYI, I edited my last post (poker post). I wrote D'Callan onto the Shadowfax, but he's on the Courage Of Tiberius (thanks pointing that out Eric). I replaced the Security Chief in that scene with Chief Rina, the pilot of our team's runabout. Even though I double checked the post where that information is posted, I still missed it ::) . I'm going to add all the important information for our mission to another list and make it a sticky here so we can refer to it easily.
J
Ok. Dang! Lost my shot! I was going to stage a mutiny, too! :andorian
Ha ha, well i was all for doing a joint post with Jen and i totally forgot i was on a different ship DOH!!!!!
FESTIVAL SCENE
I always try to leave my posts open-ended so someone can come in behind me and add a bit more to develop the story. Sometimes the ideas others come up with for solutions are better than mine. Do whatever you think should happen in the festival scene, if there's any question whether or not it fits the story, PM me.
I figured the child that offered to take Sevryll's team to the magician is his daughter. I think we should use this magician as one of several bread crumbs that lead the team back to a missing scientist that our team is after. Well, at least one of them anyway. Did the "pet magician" or his master steal the knowledge or was it sold to him? What knowledge does he have? How does he conjure "mirror spawn" to protect the Principal of Euraback? What are "mirror spawn"? Are they holo images that are projected by a device he stole from a scientist? Is it just rumor?
The next step I guess is for our team to either: A.) Ask the magician who is glaring down at them, if he is giving a demonstration of his skills and at what time. or B.) or ask if he is for hire.
Remember, our teams are on the ground to not only find the scientists, but to investigate whether or not they are responsible for these advancements. That means they should look for anything out of the ordinary in order to learn why the culture has evolved technologically.
Let's get the ball rolling so we can find these scientists! :)
Good job Desi. Way to squeeze technology into the story. I know you're probably as disinterested in the technobabble aspects as I am. I enjoyed your flash back scene too. ;)
I know everyone's busy, but if you can post once a week that would be great. The story is starting to plug on the planet and that's were the most action is supposed to be taking place.
Things that have happened that progressed the main story line:
-Desi's character discovered cloned fruit—a technology that shouldn't be in existence on Ter'Oss
-A "Magician" with "powers", which sound a lot like holotechnology, is rumored to be at a festival that Sevryll's group is attending.
-D'Callan is out...either injured or dead.
Desi and I are working on a joint post to confront the magician. Bryan and Chris have added to it and I know Iceman and Rick Moyer are working on a post of there own. I just want to ask everyone who has a character or characters on the main planet, to post a small addition at least once a week so we can keep the momentum going at a good clip. Otherwise our story becomes stagnant and it's difficult to stay interested in. If you can't write for some reason, please let us know so we can compensate. Kenny has been busy, so we wrote his character off the planet. Meds is getting married soon and so he wrote a few posts that I will post for him during the two plus weeks he will be preparing for the wedding and going on his honeymoon. If you're going on vacation this summer, writing a few back-up posts that someone else can stick on the RPG for you, is something to keep in mind. It will help us keep the ball rolling, if you can do that.
Great new post from Omra, welcome back to the fold my friend.
Hey All,
We discuss this in our up coming Ready Room podcast.. but we are looking to finish up Season Seven by the end of June.
We are then going to take a Month off before we start Season Eight in August. We (meaning Jen and I) need a break. We normally take a few weeks off we are just extending it a few more weeks.
Please listen to The Ready Room #20 for more details as well as our idea for Season Eight.. gonna be alot of fun.
Great idea guys it will give everyone chance to come up with more writing idea's plus i think you guys need a well earned break. You both have worked so hard and i think i can safely say we all thank you for all the hard work. As you know I'm going to be away fro three weeks so that will help me and help the body of D'Callan ;)
Yeah, that sounds good. A break would be nice. I've been getting swamped with personal life issues and I feel bad that I'm not pulling my weight with the story.

me too. I love writing, but so much is going on right now.
Yes, it all needs to be tied up into a nice little bow before we do take a break though. So if any of you can help us push this into an ending that makes sense that would be great. If we all post a little a day that will progress the story further than if a handful of people are doing the bulk of the writing.
Listen to the past few Ready Rooms to get caught up. We've had several people help us record all the posts in the RPG for the past few weeks. So there should be no problem with knowing what's going on if you're not able to read for some reason or another.
Great post regarding D'Callans medical help Jen, brilliant writing. I'm quite close to my character now (strange how that happens) and its weird reading about him lying there. really enjoyed that, excellent detail.
:D thanks.. glad you liked it. Thought I'd dust off the old EMH... Or the new one actually. I described the EMH Mark II. Not sure if he's a higher version or not, but I thought it would be fun. Plus, our doctors can't be good at EVERYTHING. That always annoyed me about Star Trek. The docs were totally awesome at everything they did. :D
Yeah i must say that did gripe me a bit. You never saw any of them leaving their scalpels in patients, i mean that happens all the time at our hospital, erm ......
Here are some ideas folks have been working on behind the scenes for the RPG. Use them to progress the story, but check with others in this thread before you post it. Bounce ideas off of each other. That's what this thread is for ;)
These are only ideas and we are currently trying to get together to do a joint post to resolve a few of them:
1. The child that lead Sevryll's group to the magician is a federation scientist
2. The magician can only perform his "feats of magic" when the child is in his presence.
3. There are only two missing scientists left alive. One is the Denoblian that Desi posted about... she is being held captive. She may be a good guy...
4. The other scientists tracked down the two mentioned above and tried to resolve the problem. They were "outed" by the child as witches and the were "taken care of" by the Ter'Ossic.
5. Aeric James and Nareen Tev-Awash have discovered the mummy of one of the dead scientists. They are working to bring it back to Arabella for study.
Those are the ideas we have so far. Fill in the gaps or add to the story, but check with your fellow writers by using the OOC before writing really important details. For example, ask before your character solves the mystery. Work with others through joint posts. Collaborating is the best way to write when you're too busy to post on your own, or if you're stuck. Other people's ideas are very helpful in getting around writers' block.
Great idea's, wish i could write more but alas i'm lying down dying (or surviving depending on your positive outlook) aboard the Arabella. I may not be here to see the conclusion of this mission so i'll have to do some catching up when i get back. Keep writing guys you are all doing a fab job.
Okay, I posted the thing about Miri's planet. The planet name and facts were from a book by Blish who posited that a separatist movement colonized another planet and belligerently opposed further communication.
END SEASON SEVEN.
Ok, let's put our heads together and decide how to bridge this season with the next. Ideas have been discussed in the OOCSeason Eight thread, to link the two. We can skip the details of how the last scientist was saved and go straight to the end.
I set up the reason why things went south on Ter'Oss... we just need to smack it out of the ballpark. I'd prefer to do that this weekend so we can start brainstorming for Season Eight and relax for a month before it begins.
Does anyone have a problem with nipping this thing in the bud this weekend? If not, let's discuss bridging these two seasons and wrap this up.
I say, that a sun spot allows brief sensor and transporter operations thanks to Blue boy's probes. They get the people beamed off and Starfleet handles cleanup off screen.
Maybe Aria get's that info from Aeric when she relays the message Sevryll asked her to send in my last post? We could have the last scientist beamed off as she's climbing out a window... she materializes on a transporter pad with everyone else as Quinn is disappearing from the bridge... for his trip to Wonderland (Mirror Universe).

Fantastic idea!
Anyone else? If not, I'm going to work on a joint post with Just X to end this season. Please visit Season Eight's OOC thread, and contribute to the discussion a few of us are having regarding the next story.
Remember, we're breaking for a month. So if you get the itch to write, work on your character profiles... several of those need updating. Start a backstory in your profile, if you can. Read the ones that have been written already by other authors. I think aside from myself and Just X there's only one or two others. Omra and Dufster (who no longer writes in the RPG). Backstories help a writer know more about the person they are playing. They are a source if information that you can draw form in the Seasons you are writing in. They make your character more believable... more real. Try it out. It's lots of fun. And, read the ones others have written. Backstories provide interesting insight into characters you thought you knew well.
