Title: My little film called The Egg
Post by: Meds on April 12, 2008, 03:08:18 PM
This is a little 9 minute film in made with my mate's Ray and Chris. I wrote it and i shared the directing, shooting and producing duties with Ray. The actor is Chris. It's not bad for a film made with no money. The music done by another mate Woody is to be redone by himself. The bit where you see the tree's going round, well the  ambient music there will be what will be throughout the film, plus we'll cut two mins out as well. Anyway take a look and let me know what you think.

Yet another reminder why I think the British are still the coolest cat's around bar none. :) Good stuff! :)

Cool.   8)

The editing was nice and tight, and the music contributed nicely to setting the mood.    Great job to you and your buds, man! :)

Very well done, I especially liked your choice of black and white video.

Good story - thought he was going to eat the egg at first.

How long did it take to shoot and edit your movie?

I liked the quick cuts and wide camera shots.

very small nitpicks -
The clocks on the wall show the events happened between 11:00 and 12:15 except the kitchen clock showed 1:45
A little rough over-ground shot through the woods.

It's tough to get a smooth dolly shot with a handheld camera - I bought an enexpensive Glidecam 2000 on eBay, what a difference!
Quick to learn and easy to use but the rig gets heavy fast. I eventualy bought the harness "bodypod" for $100.00

I forget what Moyer777 gives his films - so I give it a warp 4.5 out of 5 for being cool movie!

wow.  That looked like fun to make.  How did you do the special effects with the little guy?

Wow thanks Bryancd for that comment. Thanks Wraith the editing was done by my co-producer Ray who did it on his mac. Thanks Davekill all comments and criticisms welcome. Here's some answers. We originally shot the film using a super 8 camera (a bugger to use because you can't see what you have shot ) in July 2003. But when i got the film back from Kodak i only had 30 seconds developed out of 10 mins. the shutter had broke so we wasted 4 months of filming. I put that project aside and started working on the comedy show The Danger Signs ( www.thedangersigns.com) and that took up nearly all my spare time. I then went to the Lake District for a weeks holiday and totally re-wrote The Egg film, this was In June of 2006. Me and Dave Ray sat down and story boarded it all and i borrowed a small sony digi cam.We started filming in the September but then Chris (the actor) had his hair cut so we had to halt filming till it grew back (We shot the Opening scenes in the living room, the alleyway and then the river scene in the September). In December we started again (hence the sudden weather change).Well done on noticing the clock, the first shoot we had Chris going to the pub, hence it is 11am (pubs open here at that time) but we  cut that and by te time we shot him coming back in we had forgotten to change the clock back. (It was 2 in the afternoon) The kitchen clock never worked since w had it). The roughness over the grounds is intentional. We wanted to give the viewer the feeling that someone was either following him or you was with him. There is a serious blooper in it that i can see because i made it but i'm not saying where it is ha ha. Will keep my eye out for what you bought on ebay sounds like a good addition. Thanks for the tips. Rick, thanks for your comments as well. we did the animation simply by pressing record on the camera waiting for three seconds, stopping and the repeating. We the cut it down on the computer. That took at least a day to do. The bath scene was fun and no Chris was not naked ha ha. I'll post some making of pics up. Thanks again for all the nice replies.
