Post by: Geekyfanboy on March 21, 2006, 11:14:12 AM
I love the Shrek movies here is some info I found about the new Shrek movie

DreamWorks Animation has given the third "Shrek" installment a title - Shrek the Third. The anticipated animated-comedy hits theaters on May 18, 2007.

Shrek the Third finds Shrek and Fiona reluctantly reigning over Far, Far Away. But if they can find the heir to the throne and bring him back, they can return to their swamp. While Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots are in search of the heir, Fiona holds off a coup d'etat by Prince Charming.

The film is voiced by Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas and Justin Timberlake.

Donkey is back! WOOHOO!!

This is defenetly great news. I loved the 2 movies. Just hope they don't recycle jokes like they did in other comedies like Austin Powers.

I came across this article and I found it interesting that he mentions a spinoff movie for Puss and Boots and a fourth Shrek.. I don't know if this is just wishful thinking or is actually fact. Here's the article.

Banderas on the Shrek Sequels

March 30, 2006

MTV talked to Take the Lead star Antonio Banderas about voicing Puss in Boots again in upcoming "Shrek" sequels and the spin-off film.

"Tomorrow I'm going to do my first session of recording for him," Banderas said. "The story and the recording of the 'Shrek' [films] is very open. We improvise a lot, and many new things come [during] every session, and then they take all of that material and put it together with the animation."

He added that "We will have the ['Puss in Boots' spinoff] movie â€" it is interesting to do a movie only with the character â€" called 'Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer.' It would be between the third and the fourth 'Shrek.' And in the fourth 'Shrek,' I think, I'm going to play two characters: I'm going to play Puss in Boots and his badass brother. So I will have to invent another voice for him."

The next film in the franchise, Shrek the Third, will be released on May 18, 2007.

Here is the first look at the band of Princesses for Shrek the Third

In Shrek the Third, Princess Fiona (center, voice of Cameron Diaz) is joined by (left to right) obsessive-compulsive Cinderella (voice of Amy Sedaris), prissy-but-sarcastic Snow White (voice of Amy Poehler), opinionated Rapunzel (voice of Maya Rudolph), and narcoleptic Sleeping Beauty (voice of Cheri Oteri), who prove that they aren't your everyday princesses.

*****Spoilers******

Well I just got back from watching Shrek The Third.  I really enjoyed it,  the story was very simple. The Frog King dies and Shriek is next in line to be the king, of course he doesn't want it and finds out that there is one other person, Arthur so he goes to get him, while he is gone Prince Charming gathers all the villains and attacks Far Far Away taking over.  There were alot of laughs and some very memorable moments.. my favorite being Snow White and her song of attack.  Also the Ogre babies are the cutest thing. The movie just flies by it's about 90 minutes. If you liked the first two Shrek you'll enjoy this one. As with the other two Shreks this one has an underlying message of not be limited by how people think of you.

Okay I LOVED Spiderman 3.  I need to establish some geek cred here....

Shrek III?  Could have been a direct to DVD release.

It was fun, and cute but I think that for exploring "the next phase" it was a let down.  For exploring the "rise of the villain" (done better in Happily Never After) it was a let down.  For having fresh new satricial jokes, it was okay but not as whitty or forward as the first two.

I think that the Shrek Franchise is starting to show it's age.

There's a really good article in Time Magazine about two weeks ago that talks about the "re-invented fairy tales" and poses the question "how long can we make fun of fairy tales without retelling them as they were?"  I think Shrek is needs a few more Disney remakes and retellings before they can really have the fresh material they need.

I liked it but I don't think it was a "must see on opening weekend movie".

Only Two More Shreks Due

DreamWorks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg told the Australian newspaper The Age that he envisions two more Shrek movies, and that's it. The fourth Shrek installment is in progress, with a release in 2010.

The fifth will be the last, Katzenberg told the newspaper. "It's a finite story, has been from the beginning, and I think that's part of its integrity, part of its strength, that we're not thinking this up as we go," he said. "Ultimately, we will come back to understand how Shrek arrived in that swamp. We will reveal his story." (Dark Horizons linked to the story.)

Shrek the Third has grossed more than $217 million domestically since its May 18 release. It's currently in theaters.

I enjoyed it, but keep in mind that I am an expecting father right now, and everything I've seen lately is about pregnancy and babies, so I could possibly be a little bit biased.

It was fun, but I didn't find it as good as parts one and two.  Maybe it's just the constant sequels this summer.  Still, I enjoyed the movie.  But I can't wait to see something new next week like TRANSFORMERS!
