Ok, gang maybe all my nagging finally paid off. Dreamhost emailed me today and said they will move the site to a new server. For all of you, this shouldn't impact anything. Same URL's, etc - no changes you will see to the site. All you might see is a few weird downtimes (if at all) over the next couple of days. They said this should be minimal - if at all. They keep the old stuff up until it's all migrated over. So, all I can say is keep your fingers crossed. The slowdowns should be much better soon.

Sounds great. It'll take a day or two for the DNS to roll over to the new IP so some of us might get differing performance for the next little while. I take it both the old an new sites will be connecting to the same database?

New server = new database. Or else nothing would improve.
Untrue. Depends on where the bottleneck is, is the problem on the webserver or on the DB?
Both Joomla (the main web site), the forum, the gallery, all use MySQL databases. When one area is slow, they all are slow. So it's a database issue, which I believe resides on their servers.
I just got an email saying that the move is done but it can take up to a couple of days to have all the DNS issues reworked.
Well hopefully things will improve with the move, though for the most part it was alright when I accessed. At least it is nice that they took your concerns and did something with it.
Lots of factors in why a site could be slow.
I hope it all works out, Rico.
Well regardless of what the issue is, hopefully the move will solve it.
Site seems to be running much more smoothly since the move. Keeping all my fingers crossed. ;)
I think things are running much faster Rico and I was very aware of the problems. I'll let you know if I hit any snags but so far so good!

I really can't say because this computer (I'm on right now) moves slowly.
Ah well.

Well, I thought things were better but actually tonight it's the worst it's been in a while. *sigh*

I experienced a "Server busy" error twice tonight. I hadn't seen that before.
I experienced that once Jen but for me is that it's taking from 30 to 60 seconds for a page to load. It just stalls and you wait and you wait and finally something happens.
Kevin
Yeah, it's not been a perfect fix but overall I find it much quicker on average than before.
