Title: Taxes
Post by: moyer777 on March 14, 2008, 01:48:44 PM
I saw that Rico is going to try and work on his taxes tonight.

Question for everyone.   Do you do your own taxes or do you have an accountant do them?

If you do your own, do you use a program?  Or do you do it by hand?

Do you like doing them?

I make my parents do them. They are a program and I like using them as slave labor for my life.

LOL LOL

No, seriously though, I don't do them myself yet.  Though they use an tax...umm...accountant.

Turbo Tax for me - for many years now.  It's pretty easy to do using that.  Now where is that podcaster deduction?   ;)

I use to do mine for years and years, but since I work as a Freelancer I can write off a ton of stuff so the past six or seven years I have gone to an accountant. To me it's worth the money since he can get me more money in the end and I know they are being done right.

We use an accountant because I want to make sure that we take every deduction allowed by law. I could probably do them myself but with the business it can get complicated and I prefer to minimize my chance of IRS penalties if I am audited.

I have an accountant do ours as well.  With being a minister there are things like housing allowance and and other things that start getting over my head.  The guy I have been using does a real nice job and gives a great looking folder with all the stuff that needs to be filed.

Speaking of the IRS how many of you got your little notice in the mail about the economic stimulus checks?

:shocked

I'm not sure if I will qualify for that.  We will see.  Who knows, it would be nice to have some extra, but you never know with the IRS

We got those notices yesterday.  Kind of a waste sending all those out.  I don't want a notice I want the money!

What is the notice for... do they tell you you're getting one? What's the point of the notice.

Basically it says you will be getting "some" amount starting in May.  But it also mentions that you need to do your taxes to get the rebate.  I guess it's for people that don't read papers or watch the news or go online.  I think that is like three people.  ;)

You mean the letter that cost like 45M to print/mail ?  Yeah.  I like GWB but I thought this was pretty lame since it has been in the news for months.
