I don't know if any of you ever followed Star Trek Hiden Frontier, the fan series, but whether you did or did not I would highly recommend that you check out the first three episodes of their new series called Star Trek Odyssey. The concept is very similar to VOY in that a starfleet vessel winds up in another galaxy far from home and needs to get back to Federation space, BUT that is where the similarity ends. They have a great nemesis called the Archeins who are hunting them on their journey back home. Both the captain and the first officer are killed in an attack on the first episode and a young science officer has to step forward to take command, Ro Nevin who is the brother of Ro Laren. He's inexperienced but needs to find the recources within and without to get his crew home. At first I was not sure I would enjoy the series and have kind of shied away from it but I'm glad I gave it a try. Even though much of the show is shot on green screen the story and acting are so captivating that you soon forget about it. These truly are STAR TREK stories and the story is what really matters. It helps if the acting is decent and for the most part the acting is fine. I am sure it will improve as the series progresses and I am looking forward to episode four! Star Trek is not dead. It's now in the hands of the fans and the novelists.
