pretty self exlanitory topic. I'd go with PC any day but I'm curious what you all think.

I agree with StarTrekFanatic Macs are very people friendly, yet they have a history of breaking down on people. I thinking of buying the Inspirion laptop.  Its a gaming pc

eh, gaming with a laptop can be risky, its not the best choice. plus, u need room for a usb mouse, and that kinda defeats the purpose of the laptop.

With gaming aside the Mac rocks. User friendly, secure, and great apps.

how sure of that are you? i hate macs cause they dont support all file types. u know a mac wont even recognize an exe file.

Macs are the superior unit, but PC's are my favorite because there is more to do on them, for example games and music, etc. A lot of programs don't work on mac, and that ia apples problem.

Macs are the superior unit.....

Actually only about 7% of computer users own apple.

In 1984 Apple had a 6% share of the small personal computer market (about 1 million computers in the US). Today Microsoft has over 90% of a large market (about 1 billion computers in the World) below. It appears Apple never got it. Gates did. "It is the operating system stupid"

Most of the limited use of Macs has been the software available.  Many games and other software have been PC only.  With Intel chips now in Macs that should start to change some.
Title: Re: PC vs Mac
Post by: Picard_delta_5 on March 19, 2006, 10:38:33 AM
idk, someone got the great idea to tell people that macs are better for music and photoshop, but they arent. i have this friend that has a apple laptop and it keeps crapping out on him. sometimes harddrive issues, sometime..... i dont even pay attention anymore. he has some new issue with either his lap top or his ipod every month. i keep telling him to get a windows based laptop but he doesnt want to cause he says garage band is better and there isnt a version out for windows. hes really into music so he wont listen to me. I dont think that intel chip is going to change anything.

Compare a top of the line windows comp to a top of the line mac with intel. the windows can play more file types and costs less. the mac can do less and costs more. the choice is clear....

i dont know if what i just said makes sense. i think im rambling. im sorta just typing what pops into my head.

HANG ON NOW PICARD, I said macs were superior, not better. Macs have better system, the way it is set up, but for everyday use, and gaming (which is everthing) pc's are better.

Woa guys...Chill out now. :boxing  Lets all be friends here. ;D  PC's are good...and Macs are good...can't we all just get along? lol

Here's why Macs don't open EXE files...We don't want your PC  viruses. EXE files open automatically...And the virus gets out and does a booigie dance all over an unprotected computer. :P  I myself, have never had an issue opening files on my Macs. Macs are pretty well incorporated into my industry.

I do use PCs to play games on. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs just isn't interested in making the Mac a gaming computer, which is a shame in my opinon. I think more people might buy them if they could do more gaming on them.  Oh, and you can right click on a mouse, on a Mac...I have a Logitech Mouse on my G4 at home, I right click all the time. I use a single click Mac Mouse at work...it works just fine for me too. :)

And the only reason more people own PCs than Macs is simply a marketing issue. You cram a bunch of PCs down the public's throat for 20+ years and they'll start to belive the propaganda: "PCs are better"...They're not better, they're just less expensive and more plentiful. Macs are nice machines too. Try them out for a few days.   ;D

And I don't hate PCs...Really. I like both. Peace my friends.  ;)

Hi Picard...

The title of the thread you started was "Mac vs. PCs", I didn't read anything about Mac OS verses Windows in the posts, so I thought it was a debate about the two platforms. I hope you didn't take the tone of my post to be anything but joking.  I'm a pretty sarcastic, I hope I didn't sound angry...'cause I wasn't.

I have this debate often with our IT guys at work all the time. We always love to talk to them about stuff like this. I wasn't looking to ruffle feathers, honest.

I know several people who use Macs -- all shapes, styles and sizes.  Heck, I use an iPod.  I'm only 3 letters from using a Mac. :P  I have seen some previews of the new windows (can't recall the code name) but there were some Mac type interfaces.

I'm just surprised all these guys do not put their heads together and come with something far superior.

I have always been in favor of short learning curves and simpler is better.  Not sure if windows or mac qualifies for either.  The one nice thing about Macs is clutter reduction.  I remember with the iMacs -- 3 cords and you're good to go.

I imagine one of these days, I will get one for a test drive.

That would be hard but LCARS is like a touchscreen thing so you would have to click buttons on the screen with ur mouse.

Cool. I actually own a PC. I'd originally bought it to check my web work on PC browsers. Also, Swish (text animation app for Flash) was PC-only. Now, my wife and daughter use it pretty much exclusively. When I can afford to buy an iMac, they'll get the Mac G4 and the PC (which is going on five years old) will most likely be sent away.

Oh, wait. My daughter plays "The Sims 2" and "Sim City 4" on the PC. Guess it'll go to her room (but no internet connection!).

Shoosh...I was starting to wonder. Yeah I primarily use a G5 and G4 for work related stuff too (web/print design). I am platform bilingualâ€"I can use both systems and I do game with the PC. I don't hate PCs, but I prefer the Mac. If I could afford the new G5 with the duel boot capability, I'd buy one for gaming too.

Actually, I started on the PC when the machine of choice was the original IBM PC. I worked in WordStar.  Then, I moved on Pagemaker. Not long after that, I did Pagemaker on the Mac and heard about some new application called Quark Xpress. People used to ask me what I did for a living. When I told them, I'd get blank stares. Now, I hear housewives in the supermarket checkout line talking about hot swappable firewire drives.

Yeah, my poor dad was afraid to use the internet then he found out that my Nana buys her cruise tickets online and keeps in touch with all her grandkids via email...all of a sudden he started using it. They still don't know what a firewire is...let alone a podcast. Many of my technically savvy friends didn't even know about podcasts. I clued them in, now they're hooked.

Ever use InDesign? That's my weapon of choice for layout.

No, he  used to play the ATARI with us when I was little and later when I was in high school he purchased a flight sim and played it on my computer at home. He's quick to pick up on stuff like that. My parents live in the country and as you know, dial up stinks. It probably turned him off to the internet early on.

Quote from: Jen on April 19, 2007, 07:11:10 PMEver use InDesign? That's my weapon of choice for layout.

I use it at home because I simply refuse to pay for Quark. InDesign came as part of my Photoshop/Illustrator upgrade. As a matter of fact, I have corrections to receive from my client for this pocket folder project. I do Quark work sometimes when I work on-site.
