Transformers 2 Unfazed By Strike Prospect
The prospect of an actors' strike in late June isn't stopping Michael Bay, who plans to begin production on Transformers 2 for a June 26, 2009, release, Variety reported. DreamWorks would like to get underway with production of Transformers 2 in early June.
But Bay told the trade paper that the labor cloud has made the process harder. "If there is a strike, we shut down, but shutting down isn't that big a deal," Bay said. "You make accommodations, you make a deal with vending houses on equipment and on the stages where you are shooting. You hope for the best, but you can't be incapacitated by the possibility that there will be a strike. We've got to get this town back to work. I can't imagine anyone wants another strike; we're all tired. Hopefully clearer heads will prevail."
Bay said that the sequel is still recovering from the writer's strike, and that he's playing catch-up after getting back his trio of writers, Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
"They did a detailed outline before the writers' strike, and now they are in Michael Bay jail, holed up in a hotel and working feverishly," Bay said. "We're paying for a beautiful suite, and they are getting a lot of work done. Hiring three writers was unusual, but it has been a godsend in getting us to where we need to be. Somehow you find a way to get it done."
Meanwhile, several studios are setting additional plans for summer production starts, based on the assumption that the Screen Actors Guild contract talks will be resolved without the kind of work stoppage that crippled the film industry during the 100-day writers' strike, Variety reported.
Warner Brothers has already pushed forward on George Miller's Justice League to begin shooting in mid-July.
Warners revealed earlier this week that it will begin shooting Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins on May 5.
Twentieth Century Fox, for instance, has scheduled August as the start date for The Tooth Fairy, a fantasy comedy that will star Dwayne Johnson.
Sony will begin shooting its Da Vinci Code sequel, Angels & Demons, in Rome on June 5.
Sony's 2012, a $200 million Roland Emmerich-directed disaster epic, is slated for a summer 2009 release.
Bay To Spread "Transformers" Lies
By Garth FranklinTuesday, April 22nd 2008 12:59am
"Transformers 2" director Michael Bay claims that, short of news that filming is taking place in Philadelphia, everything else that has hit the Net about the upcoming "Transformers" sequel is BS.
He says on his official site that "Sorry everyone, everything you are reading (other then we are shooting in Philly) is false. We are going to give so much disinformation on this film to confuse everyone."
Secrecy on a project is understandably important, and the respectable way to do it is simply keep quiet - denial or even no response is often the most effective way. Outright misinformation propaganda however is another thing.
As a movie website editor, that kind of deceitful approach sadly leaves me only one choice - practically no coverage whatsoever of the film short of the confirmed publicity materials.
I wasa wondering how long it would be before something like this began happening....just out and out deception to protect a story. Not sure how I feel about it either....yet.
I think it's great.. I hate finding out early about the movie or TV storyline. I try and resist but sometimes I find it hard.. so if there is false rumors out there then you'll never really know if it's the truth or not.. I wish more TV and Movies would do this.
I am 100% for this! Disinformation is probably the best bet.
Transformers 2 Secrets Revealed!
Transformers co-writer Roberto Orci told SCI FI Wire that the soon-to-shoot sequel will build on the first film, delve deeper into established characters and devote screen time to a favorite Transformer from the original animated TV series. (Possible spoilers ahead!)
Orci and his longtime writing partner Alex Kurtzman scripted the first Transformers movie and have written the story for Transformers 2; Ehren Kruger (The Ring) drafted the screenplay, and Michael Bay is set to return to the director's chair.
"We want to follow some of our lead characters, which we thought were so successful," Orci said in an interview in New York while promoting the upcoming Fox SF TV series Fringe. "Shia LaBeouf's character, [Sam Witwicky, was] amazing. Where is he two years later? His girlfriend, [Mikaela, played by Megan Fox,] where is she two years later? But for fans--I guess I'll address this more to fans-- ... I think if you didn't know Transformers at all and you liked the first movie, you'll like the second one."
Orci added that some of the die-hard franchise fans may have wanted the film to be less lighthearted and have more science fiction. "I think the second one will deliver on a true Transformers story," he said. "You know, the first one, we had a limited budget for what it was. Every second of Transformer time is $1 million or whatever the heck it is. So this time, because we were able to prove, thank God, through the whole thing that it's a viable live-action movie, we have a little more freedom this time to actually learn about the Transformers, to see them, hear them. ... It's a better balance between the humans and the Transformers."
Orci was coy at first about the identity of the Transformer character he felt most compelled to include in the sequel. But he relented after a moment. "I'll tell you, man," he said. "We had to get Soundwave in there." Where Soundwave goes, Ravage will follow? "Perhaps," he said. "You know, we had Ravage in an early draft of the first movie, and Soundwave, and we couldn't do it right. I think this time, hopefully, we'll have the ability to do it."
Separately, Transformers star Tyrese Gibson told SCI FI Wire that the sequel will do things that haven't been done before. "There's going to be some real one-of-a-kind things going on in this," Gibson (Tech Sgt. Epps) said in an interview on the New Mexico set of Legion, which he is currently filming.
Gibson added: "Michael Bay is really going to try and up the ante on round two and take it to a whole other level. I can't go into any detail, but it's going to be some real one-of-a-kind things going on in this movie that no one has ever visually seen in their life. Michael Bay is really fired up and trying to outdo what he did on the first round."
The Allentown, Pa., Morning Call newspaper, meanwhile, contained a report about future location shooting for the film in the old Pennsylvania steel town. Transformers 2 will open June 26, 2009. --Ian Spelling, with Michael Marano
Further "Transformers 2" Details
By Garth FranklinMonday, June 9th 2008 2:23am
CHUD reports that according to their sources, 'The Fallen' of the upcoming "Transformers" sequel's new subtitle 'Revenge of the Fallen' is actually a character from comic book continuity.
More specifically he's an ancient Transformer who's essentially the Devil of their mythology as in one of the original good 13 Transformers who turned on his fellow beings and was cast down. Now he's 'The Fallen', a being of power, darkness, and absolute dedication to Unicron - the twin brother and arch-enemy of the Transformers creator Primus who was sealed with Fallen into extradimensional limbo.
New Transformers in this film include remote-control truck 'Wheels' (blurry photos), three Can-Am Spyder motorbikes become 'Arcee', a beat up old ice cream truck which becomes 'The Twins', the 2008 Pontiac Solstice which becomes 'Jazz', and an Autobot based on the Chevrolet Beat concept car.
Over the weekend John Turturro, Megan Fox, and Shia Lebeouf were all part of a scene set around a SR-71 Blackbird at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia which transforms into 'Jetfire' during the scene apparently.
Shooting gets underway in Philadelphia this week, making notable use of the University of Pennsylvania for college scenes with Sam (Shia LaBeouf), a local power station, and the Eastern State Penitentiary (now a museum) which will be used for a possible jail break scene.
TFW2005 has received confirmation that the combiner Devastator will appear in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The confirmation includes the following details:
- Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator
- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla
- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow
Sweet! I love Devastator! Didn't the Dinobots combine to form something to combat Devastator or is age finally taking its toll on my mind?
Not the Dinobots as I recall. The Protectobots and the aerialbots formed 'gestalts' for the autobots. The decepticons had the Constructicons and the Combaticons.
EDIT: Oh my god I am such a loser.
here is the List:
Combiners with three or more members (non-Scramble City type)
* Devastator (G1)
* Predaking

Do you know how frightening it is to click on the link to this post in "Recent Posts" and suddenly have fiery, evil robot eyes staring at me? And it didn't help that it's really dark in my room right now. :P

This gives me chills... it just looks soooooooo cool.
:jawdrop AWESOME!!! has it been confirmed that the giant robot is Devastator?
well Devastator is in the movie.. so I would assume that's him.
Very cool! Looks like this one is going to be a little darker than the first.
Looks like fun, although i didn't think the first movie was so great, mostly due to the "young" actors and weak script. Good action, though. I was too old to ever get into the whole Transformers thing.

Too much humans and not enough robotic action was my issue with the movie. Hopefully this one fixes it. Don't get me wrong, it was still a great movie.
I'm getting more and more stoked about this movie. I simply can't wait for it to come out. Should be interesting to see how they continue on!
By the way, is Devastator the one with the giant wheel? (I know, Transformers is a weak geek are for me :( )

Looking forward to this. You can't grumble at the special effects and actions scenes, hopefully the will improve on the plot / acting etc with this one.
Ooooo!! this looks good, and the mood looks a lot darker than the first film. Can't wait now
Looks like it'soing to be a good movie. Can't wait to see it.
Neat behind the scenes...voice overs. Peter Cullen - wow !!

This movie was a blast. If you saw and liked the first one, definitely go see this one. Lots of action of course and lots of fun! More giant robots fighting and just some cool stuff to see. The effects are just unreal. And some really funny stuff too. A classic, fun, summer, popcorn movie! :)
First there was Terminator 2 - now there's Transformers 2. WOW - what a ride !! I just may have to get a blueray for this one. Peter Cullen and Hugo Weaing - two great voices.
Is the trailer for Cameron's Avatar showing with this film?

This looks really good! I'll definitely make time for it.
I watching an ET clip with Shia.
Interviewer: "Do you answer the phone on the first ring when its Michael Bay"?
Shia: "Oh yeah, it's not even listed as "Michael Bay". It just says 'PICK UP'"
:D
My god! I am sorry but I just hated the movie. But if you like the first one don't mind me, because I really didn't like that movie either. Don't get me wrong I can enjoy some mindless popcorn movie fun, but these two Transformer movies were not fun to me. The action is impossible to follow. Its load and flashy but no fun to watch. I know alot of people loved the first one, and I am sure will enjoy this one, but man! I just don't get it. I think Michael Bay is a terrible filmaker. I did enjoy Armagedon though. On the positive Megan Fox is hot and Shia is an entertaining actor. For the record I am a huge Transformers fan and was hoping this movie was better than the first. But just more of the same
Spockfan - If you didn't like the first one, I'm wondering why you would see this? It's more of the same. I thought it was a blast to watch!
This about sums it up for me...love this kid
I went into this film with low expectations, but it turned out to be pretty cool! A nice fun, big-budget FX flick with some surprisingly humorous and poignant moments. I still dislike the fact that the robots embody a lot of human cultural stereotypes, but I was able to enjoy the film despite this shortcoming.
If you liked the first film, I think you'll love this one! :thumbsup
I was hoping this one was better. I loved the Transformers as a kid. I know some people really enjoyed the first one, and I am sure they will like this one and good for them, to each his own. I just really don't like Michael Bay's movies. I will not be going to see the third movie if Michael Bay is directing. I think JJ Abrams needs to take over the Transformers franchise. Glad you liked it Rico
I didn't care too much for the first film for the same reasons SpockFan said. I alos though Armageddeon was a terrible too, though. Still, if a friend calls and want to go, I would. I jst like going to the movies but Jamie doesn't, so we rarely go or I go alone.
I know Armagedon was incredibly cheesy, as are all Michael Bay movies. But I thought the movie had some fun moments.
To each his own; it's all good. :) For the record, I'm NOT a fan of Bey's habit of using shaky camera shots and hyper-frenetic fight scenes. When watching a robot fight, I like to see what's going on. It seemed that the shaky-cam was a little toned down in this film, and the action shots were a little easier to follow. I also like the whole 'ancient astronauts' story angle the film used.
Oh - yeah - to each his own. I actually thought this Transformers was tighter and better than the first one. I at least, had an easier time following the fights and action. But I certainly will be one of the first to say that these types of movies are not for everyone.

I felt the same way. Low expectations, especially after reading a few critics reviews prior to going, but very entertained in the end. Although I do like the first one more.

Again, I agree with you. The one thing I really did not like is that the maturity level seemed to go down in this one. They went for a lot of juvenile gutter-humor type laughs. Dogs humping dogs, robots humping humans, and then the stereotypical charachitures portrayed by some of the robots. I can believe that after a few years of expsoure they might pick up some our speech patterns (although, did we really need to hear an autobot say "punk-@$$ b**ch"?) but would they also choose to mimic the appearance of buggy eyes, oversized ears, buck teeth, GOLD teeth, and illiteracy that typically goes along with that stereotype? I don't think so.
Outside of those things, I did find the movie enjoyable in the end.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. I remember that the robots came to earth centuries ago, but I thought that they lay dormant until 'modern' times. I could be wrong, though; my transformers knowledge is limited to the first cartoon series. I know that there have been several other cartoon series since then, plus several different comic series.. Maybe one of them introduced the ancient-astronaut angle?
I'm looking forward to seeing it, I thought the first one was ok bar Shia le barff but you know robots changing into cars, planes boats, whats not to like.
I thought Michael Bay actually improved the action on the original. It was easier to follow this time imo.
Overall, the movie was better, better action and just plain...better. Except, tbh, the beginning family part. But I guess something had to be quirky.

The writer forgot to mention one of the mildly creepy aspects of the film--

Hatchlings?!? Transformers lay eggs now?
Some funny stuff in that article - but I still really enjoyed the movie.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film as well. I plan on picking it up when the DVD is released. It did have a few issues, but none of them were glaring enough to negatively impact my appreciation of the movie.
Apparently there's a little drama going on between Megan Fox and Michael Bay. Here's the link:

Good for Michael Bay! He has a point.
OK, I took my nest friends middle daughter Elizabeth to see Transformers 2 today. She's 9 and loves Transformers and asked if I would take her. Too cute! It's way long, but I liked it, much more than the first one. I've never been a Transformer fan, I was a teenager when the cartoon came out. I thought the first movie was just annoying, from the actors to the action to the incomprehensible plot. I liked the characters more in this one, except the roomate guy. Some whole parts of the movie i could have done without, like the mom eating the pot brownie. Lame. The plot is still completely dense and I had no idea what was going on, but the robot stuff was much more fun here. All in all, I give it a B-.
Looks like it's coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 20th. The Blu-Ray set from Best Buy comes with a mini Optimus Prime bust and a $50 gift card to Sideshow Toys. Good deal for a $50 purchase price if you can use the gift card.
