Title: Another Home Theater
Post by: Ktrek on February 26, 2008, 01:17:11 PM
Here is an example of what can be done with a little ingenuity and creativity. This guy built this home theater for only $11K to $12K. That's pretty reasonable and I'm sure it's a very fun place to watch a movie.

Well he has a kid so there must of been a woman involved at some point.  I've seen that theater before.  I like it a lot.  It's close to what I would do.  Did you notice he never mentions the words "Star Trek" during the whole video even though that's obviously the biggest influence on the look.  I wonder why he didn't mention Trek?

Maybe there was an exclusion by the show that wouldn't allow Trek to be mentioned. It is pretty obvious that he was greatly influenced by Trek. The thing that impressed me the most was his construction of a to scale model set before he constructed the theater. That was a cool idea because it would help give you perspective and also a visual guide. Pretty cool set up for the money.

You really don't have to spend a lot to achieve some cool effects.  I learned a lot when I built my bridge panels and helm set up growing up.  Couple of things that can do wonders:  Contact Paper and Christmas lights!  Oh, and plexiglass!
