I love these guys.. just watched all 10 episodes and 5 other guild videos.. it's great to see that they are winning so many awards and getting acknowledgement for their work.. this would make a really funny sitcom for TV.
They just released all 10 episodes of season on on DVD with some extras... it's $20 plus $5 shipping.
http://www.watchtheguild.com/gear/dvd/
Can't wait for season two...
I'm so buying this! Thanks for the heads up Kenny.
Here's a nice music video someone made for the cast....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WO9JqrH_-c
I could have picked this up at comic con last month but like an idiot I didn't.. now I have to pay the extra five bucks for shipping.
The cast of The Guild was at this years San Diego Comic Con... they were signing at the SoCal Browncoats table and it was a mad house. I walked by and there was a huge line waiting to get the DVD's signed. They also had an autograph booth upstairs in the Autograph room.. I'm so happy they are getting recognition for their work. Here are some pixs.
Just got my DVD.. watched a few of the extra this morning before work.. great stuff... the gag reels are the best. If you haven't watched this online you need to check it out and when you love it give them some support by buying the DVD.. it's well worth the 20 bucks.
Here is a cool interview with two of the producers of The Guild, Felicia Day and Kim Evey. Felicia also is the main star of it.

Felicia Day, worlds most perfect woman? I'm beginning to think so.
I hate to sound ignorant but who are The Guild?
It's a fantastic and very funny webseries
go here and watch season one...

Thanks mate, will watch it after work.
I just volunteered to help out on season two.. they seemed interested.. I'll keep you posted.
WHOO HOOO!!!! They just contacted me about working on Season Two for The Guild. I'll be producing, shooting and editing DVD extra segments.

My first shoot is this Sunday.. can't wait.
Looking forward to reading all about it Kenny, keep us informed.
OMG Kenny, can you tell Felicia Day that I would leave my wife and family for her? Is that wrong? Or better yet, don't do that, instead try to recruit her into the Papa Palpatines. We need bigger celebrities in the guild than Rico, no offense Ric.
Don't forget, Felicia is on "House" next week! :)

What a thrill Kenny, I am SO FREAKING JEALOUS. Congrats and have fun. Is this volunteer work? I know from all the interviews I've heard Felicia do that she was looking into different funding avenues to support the next season of "The Guild." I hope you're getting paid for your efforts, but I know if it was me I'd do it for free too just to be near the radiance that is Felicia :) :) :)

Yes they are hoping to do this season without donors and so far so good.. will see how it goes.
Good on yer Kenny, give her a wink from me.
Well today was the first shoot for season two of The Guild. Call time was at 7:30am out in Pasadena. We shot from 8am to 3pm and took a quick lunch break around 1pm. It was a very fun and exciting experience. I can't really tell you much but I did get to meet Felicia Day and she is as sweet, beautiful and kind as she is in her videos.
I was shooting BTS footage but I also took production stills. I managed to film about 3 1/2 hours of footage and took over 200 pictures. Will be shooting the next two weekends the first four episodes.. can't wait to me the rest of the cast.
Sounds brilliant Kenny, looking forward to more reports. Hope you gave Felicia that wink i sent ha ha
get a good word in for us :) who knows there may be a guild treksf podcast.... hint hint Rico.... HINT HINT!
Sounds cool Kenny. I'm curious on what type of equipment you are using both for the video footage and the photography? Did you bring your own stuff to use?
Very cool Kenny!
LOL... producers just asked me to play a homeless guy on an episode of the Guild that we are shooting this weekend... how cool is that.

LOL.. that is how she started her email to me. "We need someone to play a homeless person and so we thought of you LOL!" They actually didn't want to hire an extra so instead they thought it would be funny to use someone who is already on set and asked me.

I remember reading about this in one of the British sci-fi mags ages ago, I forgot about it until recently and have now ordered the season 1 DVD :):)
Method acting Kenny, method acting. I grew a beard for my shoot in the week and had to film all my parts in order of beard, moustache, side boards and then clean shaven. All in the method. Think of Geilgud, Olivier, Guiness, Shatner, hmm well maybe not.
Hey kenny, I was wondering if they were going to drag you along to Blizzcon this week? I hear they're going to be there. Not sure how close you are to Anaheim.

Triple "Guild" play for Microsoft
Mon Nov 24, 2008 6:13am GMT
By Andrew Wallenstein
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Microsoft will be filled to the gills with "The Guild."
The software giant has an exclusive lock on the long-awaited second season of the Internet cult hit, which will be the first to be distributed worldwide simultaneously across Microsoft's triple platform of Xbox 360's Live Marketplace, MSN and Zune.
Sprint has signed on to sponsor the 12-episode run, making it the first marketer to test Microsoft's new strategy to draw ad dollars with the combined reach of a gaming console, Internet portal and portable media player.
A scripted comedy chronicling the misadventures of a group of online gamers, "Guild" premieres Tuesday on Independent Video, Xbox's new channel devoted to original content. "Guild" will lead a collection of ad-supported and fee-based programs, including such other game-oriented fare as "The Jace Hall Show," "Red vs. Blue" and first-season episodes of "Guild."
Although launching with just five or six programs, Xbox has ambitions of expanding Independent Video beyond the gaming theme to embrace a broader audience. The channel is launching with the only other original deal it has done to date, the webisode "Horror Meets Comedy" from Safran Media Group, which is not gaming-related.
After reaching 9 million views with a 10-episode season financed from viewer contributions via PayPal, "Guild" emerged last year as one of the more buzzed-about webisodes. Its star, creator and writer-producer, Felicia Day, has become the face of the original Web production world, starring opposite Neil Patrick Harris in one of the few other success stories in online originals, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," created by Joss Whedon. "Horrible" also is syndicated on Xbox's Independent Video.
A key component of the deal allows for Day to retain the intellectual property rights to "Guild" while collecting an unspecified upfront licence fee. A who's who of Web brands courted Day for rights to "Guild," from old-media companies to gamer-centric ad networks, though many insisted on retaining the traditional set of rights.
But Day had been holding out for more than a year in search of a deal that gave her control of the creative and business sides of "Guild." "I was adamant about holding on to the rights of my series," she said.
As a result, Microsoft will not participate in revenue should "Guild" eventually graduate to TV or film, though the corporation does hold on to any gaming-related extensions. Which is fine by Scott Nocas, group product manager at Xbox Live.
"We're a software and hardware company," he said. "If they want to do a movie deal, that's not our core business."
Four weeks after each episode of "Guild" airs, it moves into a second window on Watchtheguild.com, home base for the first season's episodes. However, Microsoft retains ad revenue in that window as well as in an unspecified split because episodes will air in an embedded MSN media player. Once the entire season is completed by the end of February, Day can make a new deal for a nonexclusive run beyond Microsoft.
An added plus for going with Xbox is that "Guild" will be distributed day-and-date in nine languages in 26 countries where Xbox Live operates, reaching 14 million users. "Guild" found unintended international appeal late in its run, according to Day.
Sprint will attach itself to "Guild" in various ways from preroll messaging to branded entertainment; mobile phone Sprint Instinct is shown being used by one of the series' characters.
Each "Guild" episode runs 4-7 minutes long. A separate holiday special is also covered under the deal, which will allow "Guild" to shoot in high-definition for its Xbox window.
Before the introduction of Independent Video, which was deployed last week as part of a relaunch of the Xbox Live Marketplace interface, all TV and film content was available on a transactional basis. "Guild" and "Horror," which is sponsored by the Air Force, will be Xbox's first free programs.
"Horror" also will be pushed through all three Microsoft distribution points but won't move to MSN and Zune until after its Xbox run.

Yes, I know they didn't release them on the web originally in HD, but as in movies if they were recorded in HD originally they could release an HD version someday.
On a related subject, I'm real curious on what video camera equipment they have been using this season? Do they get camera companies to donate equipment? Do they rent it?

No season one was shot in SD so there is no HD version of it anywhere.
As for cameras this season another webseries loaned them their camera package. I don't know the exact kind it is but it's all digital and there are no tapes. It records to a tiny card that is downloaded to a computer.. it's a pretty nice set up.

I was listening to another podcast today and they started talking about the Guild (TuningIntoSciFiTV - it's not Treks In Sci-Fi but it's OK ;)). Apparently they want to nominate Felicia Day as 'First Lady of Internet TV' (I think that was the title) for both The Guild and Dr. Horrible.

The watchtheguild site has some episodes posted, as well as links to newer ones on msn.

EDIT I see what you mean. Looks like msn is having some issues..
New episode go to watchtheguild.com after month on MS Video.. if you go the the website they just posted episode three of the second season.
Yep. And the links they have on watchtheguild to the new episodes hosted on MS video makes it easy to get to them. Easier than googling "Guild episode 6" and sorting through all the hits.
Kudos to you and all of the folks involved with The Guild, Kenny. Y'all have a great show on your hands. :)
Heh, its working now. Great episode!

Another awesome entry!
Another great episode. And I'm just loving the actress who plays Clara--she's got some mad comedic skills.
I love this series, and I have my non-geek friends watching it now. BTW, Angela and I interviewed Kenny recently about his work on the Guild. Should be a segment in our next show. He had a lot of interesting things to say about the type of work that he does. I thought I knew all about what he does as a career and his work on the Guild... but far from it. Mr. Kenny is a very interesting man. :)

GUILD DRAMA. So much fun. >.<
I see Clara maybe in some trouble soon....is she drunk? Or is it lack-of-sleep?

Sweet episode. I was kind of lost though-- who hit Clara's husband?
In the first or second episode of season two.. Clara gets out of going to the wedding because she told her husband that the groom touched her boob. So he approached him at the wedding and was punched.. of course Clara lied and her husband paid the price.
That's right, I remember now. I'm thinking about having a short mini-marathon and watching them all again! :)

Thanks Jen and Angela for the interview.. just listened and it turned out pretty good.
FYI.. since muppet star wars conversation reached three posts I decided to split it from this topic and create it's own thread under the Star Wars heading.
This is some great stuff. I first ran into it on x-box live. They are offering free downloads of the first season and I watched every episode in one night! They should will be happy to know they have one more fan.

Yeah the slow mo turn was brilliant... I was there when they were editing it and Felicia almos took it out.. she thought it might be a bit much.. but we convinced her to keep it in.
As for Codex.. you haven't seen anything yet... the last two episodes are my favorite...and wait till the finale scene...
A great episode and I can't wait for more, but there's been something kinda bugging me over the past few episodes and I figured out what in this episode. It's just one story focusing on the relationships. I think it could use a non-relationship B story to help carry it.
Non the less still a great series.
The B story is that the server is down.
Quote from: billybob476 on February 03, 2009, 12:28:18 PM
The B story is that the server is down.
That felt like a two episode ark to me. I think it needs to give some more focus to the Vork and Zaboo housing arrangement. I think that could be turned into the good B story, but it seems to have been kinda put to the side in the past few episodes. Suppose there's still a few more episodes to see what happens.
Poor Codex. OK but otherwise. ROFLMAO. That was the most hilarious episode yet.

He wasn't stealing, Codex said he could take whatever he wanted in a previous episode. He was just stocking up on supplies.
"I'm not really melee class!"
- great line
What surprises me about this series is how it seems to even appeal to the non-RPG gamer crowd too. I love all the inside references to gaming, how the characters call each other by their in-game names and so on. I still think this could still make it as a TV series.

Ok, so many good scenes in there I can't say which one was the best! Though Vork's shower scene sure had me laughing.
At first I was like "poor Zaboo" then "Poor Codex" then, I wasn't sure who to feel bad for.
Except Tink. She got what she deserved.
Favorite line had to be Zaboo " I guess my princess is in another Castle " he did that several times and had the crew in tears. The entire episode was fantastic and the final scene turned our wonderful.

Microsoft orders third season of 'Guild'
12 new episodes slated for late summer
By Andrew Wallenstein and Michelle Castillo
May 4, 2009, 03:36 PM ET
Microsoft has ordered another season of Internet sensation "The Guild."
The misadventures of a motley group of massively multiplayer online gamers returns to XBox 360's Live Marketplace, MSN and Zune in late summer. Felicia Day, creator and star of "The Guild," is penning scripts for this third batch of 12 episodes in anticipation of a June production start.
Having also starred in another online hit this year, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," Day is gratified to be continuing with "Guild." "It's exciting, after doing 'Dr. Horrible,' to produce my own show and being able to hold out for the deal with Microsoft. It's starting to pay off for me."
Microsoft declined comment.
After reaching 9 million views with a 10-episode season financed from viewer contributions via PayPal, "Guild" emerged in 2007 as a breakthrough in Internet programming. Microsoft secured the second season of "Guild" last year and brought in Sprint, which also will return as sponsor for the third season.
Day is looking to promote the third season of "Guild" with a sneak peek at Comic-Con International in July. She wouldn't tip her hat on plot details for the third season, but added, "I would say that the cliffhanger in Season 2 is pretty dramatic, and the repercussions of that will be felt by the guild. Expect a lot of real-life distractions for the characters and some hurt feelings from the last season."
Check it out.. Season One of The Guild recapped in 3 minutes in the style of BSG... it's pretty sweet.

But you have to understand that I'm a professional and we were working on set. Now if I met him on the street or at a con.. that's totally different.:)
Yes of course that's true, good point. I tend to think of The Guild as a 'weekend activity' but of course it's still your job so I guess it's not like one of us taking the day off and turning up to be an extra.
Ten hours is still good going! ;)
I don't care much for Wesley, one way or another, but I'm a big fan of Wheaton's blog and his reviews of the first season of TNG
(http://www.tvsquad.com/bloggers/wil-wheaton/ (http://www.tvsquad.com/bloggers/wil-wheaton/) and he'll soon publish the polished version as "Memories of the Future" :) )
And even if he's only half as cool as on his blog, I think it must be great to hang out with him. I think he also understands the fanboys as he is one himself, and would tell people if he didn't like to talk about TNG And Trek.
It's great that one of his "cool things I can't talk about" is being in the Guild, and that Kenny as a volunteer there and fan of both had a chance to really talk with Wil!!! :)
Hey Guys.. the music video is up for those of you who have Xbox Live.. http://bit.ly/12NKEm (http://bit.ly/12NKEm)
Check it out.. it's a blast.
Watched it last night. It was awesome! I showed it to my wife and she got the song stuck in her head for the rest of the night.
For some reason I imagine Felicia breaking down laughing the second the camera turns off after she does her 'sexy' scenes. :)
The Vork/Zaboo rap was hilarious.
Fran commented that a DJ could spin that song in a club and no one would know it was about an MMO.
Yeah - it's a great video. Saw it a couple weeks back. Awesome job! I hope we see some more of those costumes in Season three!
How would they work the costumes into the show? OK, scratch that. I guess they could easily play it as someone's imagination or any number of other ways. Easy.
I bet Kenny knows whether they do...and won't tell us.
LOL.. of course I do and yes you are correct I'm not telling you. :)
Kenny you truly are a professional. I don;t know how you were able to keep the Wil Wheaton announcement under wraps.
Oh you have no idea how hard that was.. but we do sign disclosure forms but luckily I could talk to Harry about it.. so I didn't have to keep it all bottled up.
It's tough because I take about 60 hours of BTS footage and about 6000 pictures and have it all on my computer. They will only use about 1 hour of footage and 20 or so photos and it's tough because of of the photos are so cool but I can't post them because, technically they belong to Knights of Good production. So I just have to enjoy them myself. :(
Part of the talk at the con was that season three will show the group of them gaming more, and perhaps "in-game" too. So I can easily imagine ways for those costumes to show up - and more. Love to see some kind of dream sequence where Codex/Felicia dreams she is actually in the game and everyone is there - in costume. That would be great!
Kenny is there anywhere else where we can see the video now?
It will be out everywhere on Monday...
Just the song will be found here to purchase: http://www.amazon.com/Wanna-Date-Avatar-feat-Felicia/dp/B002JEEJ2A (http://www.amazon.com/Wanna-Date-Avatar-feat-Felicia/dp/B002JEEJ2A)

Yeah both video and mp3 will be available for purchase at amazon and itunes.. support The Guild and buy both..
That preview on you tube is illegally put up.. been policing You tube for the past two weeks taking down the music video. This one should be removed shortly.
Sorry about the video Kenny. I thought it would get pulled fast, I only posted it since it was just a short tease of the cool video.
Hey - on another topic - is the video coming out in HD? Do you know?

It's seems that 30 sec or so preview is also on Microsoft's Zune store. You may need more software to view this sneak peak, but here's the link to an official preview of the video:

Kenny's on the problem...
I got the HD version on my XBOX the day it was released. I don't remember if it cost anything, but it's free now. I thought I paid for it, but I always have a lot of points to burn, so it might have been free from the beginning.

yeah. It offers a standard version or and HD version
edit: tried to link it to the online marketplace site, but it didn't work.
standard is 43 meg
HD is 172 meg
That Xbox HD version can only be downloaded to your Xbox.. for us without Xbox we can't get it. :(
Boo Amazon MP3 only works in the US and only the video is on iTunes. Want MP3!!
:)
They are working on that..
Good to hear!
EDIT: Ah, Felicia just tweeted about it, iTunes MP3 uploads delayed until tomorrow.
The Guild Music Video is the #1 Music Videos on Itunes.. (US & Canada) I think it's like #3 in the UK.
Looking for audio or written comments for our microcast tonight.. if you guys could send your thought on the music video to knightsoftheguild@gmail.com that would be great. Thanks in advance.
Awesome, here's a comment Joss Whedon posted on his blog:
QuoteOkay, usually I stay above such matters. But this video must be number one!!! Who is this Taylor Swift? Some evil robot, PROBABLY. (Although an evil robot vid would also potentially be cool.) (But fine! She can be number two!) The point is, I love this video to distraction (and inevitable procrastination). It has Felicia -- and money! Felicia LYING IN money! Combo-ed! Plus Vork, turkey legs, and the Solid Guild dancers! I care!
And I'm hobbled here, peeps. I don't twitter (I occasionally Glitter and Be Gay, but that's it), can't digg, or favorite, or friend... In fact I don't understand why my typewriter has a TV on it. I'M NOT SAVVY. But I really want this to be big. It's indie (which is the most important part), it's awesome, and it's made by people that I friended in the old-fashioned way of being friends with them. (Okay, technically, I brothered Jed before I friended him, but he's still super-talented.) So help me out. Let's go the extra mile here and DESTROY THE SWIFTBOT! Then I can get back to the business of making Dollhouse stranger.
Digg deep, people.
Smoochez! -joss.

An absolutely awesome music video (and song as well). I can't count how many times I've watched it this afternoon.
Kenny - did you say season three was going to be coming out in hi-def? I was wondering if they might be talking a Blu-Ray disc for season three (that might include the music video too). Just wondering if you have heard anything?

They have talked about Blu-Ray since we shot Season 2 and 3 in HD.. but that's as far as it's gone.. It costs alot of money to just created SD DVD's so I am sure it costs a lot more to make Blu-Ray. But I do know they are thinking about it.
Might cost more, but I think the profit ratio is higher on Blu-Ray than DVD. Which would equal more latinum! ;)
Normally those costs are picked up by the production company - whoever is producing the DVD or Blu-Ray. I would think having such a hit video would give them an idea of the current appeal. Strike when you are hot!
- Still trying to find a way to purchase a hi-def version of the video.

Yeah but though The Guild is a hit (on the net) it's still a mom and pops production. They are not making money on this show yet. Kim (the producer) is still producing the DVD's herself.
As for the HD version of the video I'm going to see if I can get it directly from Felicia :) I'll let you know if I succeed.
Thanks Kenny. Tell Felicia I'll Paypal her direct - if she wants! :)
P.S. Didn't the MSN deal help? I sure hope they are paying them - a lot!

The MSN deal allowed them to actually pay the crew (bare minimum) and get locations. It costs alot of money to make these shows. I know for a fact that Kim and Felicia barely see any of that money. That is why Felicia does commercials. She has told me that the Sears commercial that she had done paid for the first half of season two before they got the MSN deal. Webseries is not a profitable venture.
I guess I'm just surprised she decided to go exclusive with MSN then. And didn't that happen before season two? I thought season two started as an MSN exclusive?

Nope.. the deal was in the works.. but we couldn't wait so we started without the funding. She put it on her credit card.
And the reason she went with MSN.. is they only wanted to air the episode exclusively for a month then we could do whatever we wanted with them.. that's it. They didn't want a piece of the profits, (DVD sales) they didn't want any control over production. Being in the industry I can say that, that is very rare.. She was approached by so many "big" companies who wanted a piece of The Guild and would have paid very well. But it's Felicia's baby and she didn't want to give up her rights.
Yeah - I had heard that. Well of course I've loved what she has done with this since I saw the first episode of season one. It just shows what a great community and success can be built up without big name backing. I wish them even bigger success. Now, just to get that elusive full HD video! ;)
I double supported it. Downloaded in HD on XBOX (I hear that they use the DL count as a marker on how successful the show is for them) then bought the ipod version.

I've said it before and i'll say it again you have to love Felicia Day, not only a great writer, actress but you can tell she has such pride in this series. Thanks for introducing us to it Kenny. I love the video and, may i say she does look hot in her avatar outfit lol.

Frankly seeing this really makes me happy. It makes me believe that people like us (as fans and content creators, be it The Guild or people's various podcasts and other projects) really and truly are on the right track.
This is the future of entertainment. it may not pay off tomorrow, but I am certain it will in the long run.
Kenny, it is still my belief that getting involved with The Guild was most likely one of the smartest career moves you could have made. I know that was not your motivation for doing so, but I know that good things will come of it.
It is a great time to be a geek. From this vantage point, suffering though high school as a "loser" was completely worth it.

Check this out:
If you were online at all last week, it's hard to make the case you weren't reminded of something happening on the 25th. The incessantly catchy music video, "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar," turned out to be the most successful (and viral) promo for a web series we've seen to date. The four-minute dance pop fantasy was not only a swift monetary success, but ignited a growing fanbase around the launch of the hit web series' third season.
Today the much-anticipated Season 3 of The Guild kicks off exclusively on XBox Live, before rolling out to the rest of Microsoft's three-pronged network—MSN, XBox Live and Zune on September 1. While the phased rollout may frustrate some fans who aren't XBox owners, it comes with the territory of exclusive online distribution deals like this one, which pay an upfront premium to the creators for the right to a release window on its platform.
As announced back at Comic-Con last month, the season significantly steps up the production elements and the cast, most notably adding a rival guild into the mix headed up by new cast member, Wil Wheaton. Codex (Felicia Day) and her Knights of Good gang—Zaboo (Sandeep Parikh), Bladezz (Vincent Caso), Vork (Jeff Lewis), Tink (Amy Okuda) and Clara (Robin Thorsen) are all back for the new season and must put their past inter-guild squabbles behind them.
The Guild DVDWhile for now you'll have to head to XBox Live to watch the new season online, there was also news that The Guild team has reached a deal with retail DVD distributor Newvideo to release seasons 1 and 2 of the series in the US and Canada. This is the same company that put out Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog DVD earlier this year. Previously, the two seasons had only been available on as Amazon-exclusive DVDs. New cover art has been whipped up for the new DVD which is slated to hit retailers' shelves on September 29th and will sell for $19.95.
For bonus materials to be included on the 132-minute, 2-disc DVD release, we're promised a fair amount of unseen content like original audition footage, table reading, gag reels and even script PDF pages to go along with the usual audio commentaries and cast & crew interviews.
With over 25 million total views on the Streamy-winning series, it's safe to say this is a bonafide online hit, with steady interest from mainstream print media interested in what all the fuss is about. And while the show never actually says the name of its MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) that its characters obsess over, it's presumed by most fans to be something pretty close to World of Warcraft. That explains why Blizzard Entertainment, the software company behind the uber-popular (12M+ subscribers) game, has made the show a staple at its annual BlizzCon conference which went down last week.

I see. I need to catch up with the Guild...I kind of lost track of it in the middle of the second season but have a strong desire to pick it up again, especially with their strong viral marketing campaign they have going for season 3.
Not to be impatient, but isn't S3E1 supposed to be available today? (On the WWW?)
Just can't wait for it, but curious as to what is up.

I think next week. It was just kind of a sneak peek when Ep. 1 came out last week on the 360 - I think.
When did they add Wheaton to the cast? I haven't watched one of these in a long time.

Just this season. This is Season three - episode one. His first appearance.
Yes they premiered the first episode a week ahead of of MSN but every episode after will be out at the same time.. so next Tuesday is Episode 2.
BTW.. thanks Rico for the link to the episode on You Tube.. it's illegally posted.. and will be removed soon.
It's really a shame that they shoot these in HD now and it seems only XBOX people can see them that way. Compressed little streaming flash files are like listening to low quality music mp3's. Kenny, any chance MSN will start offering some sort of HD viewing options or have them at least on The Guild's main site at some time in HD?
P.S. I admit it, having an HD TV set and watching many things in HD now has really spoiled me. :)
I thought you had a 360 Rico, or did it move to MSU as well? :)

Well with the new price drop maybe you can pick up another! I was reading somewhere that you can get them from Dell with some coupon codes for around 200 dollars!

How cool Kenny. I know it's a lot of work, but how incredible that you get to be a part of this. I think that is great!
Wow! These are good! I just watched all of the 1st season last night, and will watch the 2nd tonight. The hive mind did not misguide me on this one. :)

Yeah it was only the first episode of the season that was released a week earlier on Xbox then MSN.. but everything else is released at the same time.
But since you have Xbox live you get to watch them on TV and if you have HD you get to see them in HD.. :)

Yeah, I'm kind of glad that HD is on XBOX. It gives us XBOX owners a little something special to look forward to while not denying the other fans a chance to see the regular version. I could understand why some non XBOX owners would feel cheated, but I think that having the guild in HD should remain an 360 exclusive. If you could get every version everywhere at the same time, there wouldn't be much point in having it on 360 as well unless you got that added perk.
You nailed it Chris.. that is part of the deal with Microsoft... But only for a month after four weeks The Guild can do whatever they want with SD or HD episodes.
I disagree Chris. Look at it this way, this is a business to make money. Exclusive content has slowly slipped away in all areas the last few years. Very few video game titles anymore are even exclusive to one platform. I sincerely doubt having the new episodes of "The Guild" available in HD exclusively via XBOX 360 live will sell any more 360's. So why not allow others share in a higher quality version of these episodes as they come out? Heck, I'd even pay for them on some type of subscription basis via iTunes, or Amazon. I did find out the other day that since I bought the DVD of season 2 of "The Guild" from Amazon.com, that I am able to download season 2 episodes from there in HD to my TIVO or PC. This isn't some huge thing like owning the rights to all The Beatles music where having that say on iTunes might very well sell a few more iPods. This is a fairly small production that should be trying to get the best version of it's content out in as many ways possible. And not just little Flash versions of it.
Well Rico you must have missed my post right above yours.
This is the deal that The Guild made with micrcosoft, they have a month/4 week window where they are the only person airing SD and HD versions of the show.
Also... just because you feel that the The Guild would not be worthy of getting an XBox or XBox Live there are fans out there who did buy Xbox for The Guild.... just saying
I caught up on Season 2 last night. These are really good! I caught Kenny's name in the credits (they flash by fast). Kenny, have you been an extra at all?

Yeah - I know about the deal Kenny - that wasn't the point of my post. My point was being exclusive is not the best way to make money. Not unless Microsoft handed them a TON of money. And I certainly didn't mean to knock "The Guild" or mean to say "it is not worthy" of getting an Xbox 360 (and keep in mind you need and Xbox 360 + Xbox Live + and HD TV). I actually own two XBOX 360's (both sadly are up with the boys at college right now). I was saying I honestly see few people running out to Best Buy and doing this for purposes of watching "The Guild.". Especially since they can get streaming Flash versions the same day - for FREE. People these days especially most likely will not do that.

Oh yeah.. Season 2 I'm the bum at the beginning of episode 3, I'm a wedding going in the BG of episode 8 and a party goer in episodes 10, 11, and 12
And in season 3 I'm in episode 1 & 2 I'm at the end of the line at Gamestop. I'm also in another episode but can't say anything yet as it hasn't aired. :)
I'm glad you enjoy it.. it's a fun series and a blast to work on.

I know you might disagree, but if they did it they way you're suggesting, why would sprint and Microsoft have a reason to put whatever funds they do, into the show? This is really no different from a broadcast show not showing up on Hulu until after it's aired. Airing in this case is a 4 week window due to it's on demand nature.
This is added value to those people the like the guild and then put out the money for xbox live. As for getting the best version of the content out there, I think that they do. On the Xbox.
While I respect your argument, the counter argument is pretty obvious. If you want to see it in the best format when it releases, why not buy an XBOX?
I also disagree with your comments on exclusive titles. They are actually alive and well. While some games do share consoles, many of the "best" games for a console are their exclusive properties.
Halo
Metroid
Mario
Gears of war
God of War
SoCom
Mass Effect
Exclusive content is far from dead and the Guild on 360 is a great selling point for the system and for the series. I have numerous people that I introduced to the guild by saying "Go to video marketplace and download the guild. You'll love it."
They go in and they get either version without having to worry about streaming or chop and they get hooked. Everything including some of the BTS stuff is all in one place with crystal clarity. If they want to promote the show in the best way, I don't see how they could do any better than the 360. The only thing that's missing is party viewing like with netflix so that you can watch it with a ton of friends from around the country.
Here are some Diehard Guild Fans... going to be interviewing some of them for the next KOTG podcast.

I've seen people buy XBOXs for sillier reasons. I hate split screen playing, so I bought a new 360 and HD TV so I wouldn't have to share the TV with my wife. Which also forces me to buy two copies of every game we play together. So, I could see and have heard of people buying a 360 for access to the guild. While it might not have been their sole driving force for the purchase, it was one of the perks that convinced them to make the plunge.

Great episode 3. Love how almost all of them now have a conflict of playing the game vs. the "real world." Zabu is so funny. This show always delivers!
It always delivers and Fox won't cancel it!
WOW, killer episode 3. I just wish I could see it all at once!
Hey, I didn't know season 3 had started! I have to watch those when I get home. I showed some friends of mine the Guild Music Video last weekend. They went home and watched all of season 1 and 2 and loved it.

Yeah most of the shirts you see on the show are from Jinx.. they have a deal set up.. they give free shirts to the cast and at least one person wears them per episode. Also in episode five you might have noticed that Sandeep (Zaboo) is wearing his own Legend of Neil Tshirt.
It's true Joe yeah. I've been watching the guild and have xbox live but i ended up watching it via a link Kenny or rico put up first before it went on xbox. Pretty bad i think.
Yup, if I was Felicia I'd be getting pretty annoyed with my distributor right now. They are most defintiely not living up to their end of the deal here.
Just and FYI, the double season of The Guild has hit the shelves of actual retail stores yesterday. Same content but new packaging holding both seasons. Also this is a huge step to get a webseries DVD in a retail store.

Yeah it's a great article.. I tweeted about it yesterday. Love that The Guild/Felicia is getting so much press.
Very interesting read. She seems very pragmatic about the show and her career. Interesting how she feels that her time focusing on the show has reduced her other acting opportunities. I hope the show continues to be a success.

Well the comic book is suppose to be 20% RL and 80% in Game.. she was trying to do something different then the series and something that is much easier to do in comic then in real life.
Wow, if I was interested before the 80% in game thing makes it unmissable! That sounds ridiculously cool!

The Guild Season 4
Posted: 13 Apr 2010 11:53 AM PDT
We're pleased to announce that Season 4 of The Guild is official – Microsoft has renewed the show for another season and new episodes of The Guild will be coming to Xbox, Zune and PCs this summer.
Felicia is putting the finishing touches on the script for Season 4, which will pick up where Season 3 left off. Pre-production is underway, keeping producer Kim Evey and Streamy Award winning director Sean Becker very busy as cameras are set to roll sometime in May. Seasons 1 through 3 are currently available on watchtheguild.com, iTunes, Amazon and YouTube.
Microsoft has sponsored The Guild since season 2. The Guild thanks Microsoft – along with all the fans – for continued support of the show.

idk if I should really answer this here. I just remembered why I haven't talked much on this thread. I have a number of reasons as to why I didn't like Season 3, but would rather not post it if it causes friction here. I love what you guys did in Season 1 and 2, but 3....well. Just wasn't that watchable to me. I'll post why if you really want to hear it. But only if you do Kenny, otherwise I'll hold my silence.

Say what's on your mind. It's not like someone is going to beat you for your opinion. When people make something for public consumption, it's a given that not everyone will like everything or even anything about it.
It's up to you.. you're allowed to hate something.. I didn't write the season.. just worked on it. If you wish to tell me great.. if not.. that's okay as well.
Ok, I'll just hit on the main parts, because if I talked about the nit-picks, we'd be here all day :P.
1st: The excessive amount of Drama. Was this season supposed to be incredibly dark compared to the first 2? It seems like it, but it was just...too much. Too many characters having too many problems. The Axis of Anarchy just creating more. Some of it felt forced so it was just in there to add to the overall sour mood of it. Towards the 2/3rd mark of the series, it just felt like I was dragging through it, forcing myself to watch it just so I could finish the series. I actually paused several episodes for half a day because it was just....dramatic beyond belief. This will probably be the only season I don't watch again.
2nd: The lines crossed. While I can understand with parody & comedy acts, lines are sometimes crossed to be humorous. So this rarely bugs me. However, it almost seemed like Felicia Day went out of her way to stick it to MMO players. All the real life incidents that happened just were extreme. I don't think I've heard of half of these happening in actual real life. Maybe it has! I've certainly heard my share of horror stories when connected with WoW or EvE. But it seemed like she was just fitting as many possible incidents into the season as she could to.....idk. Paint MMO players in a bad light? I'm not sure what she was getting at in this season. Was it for humor? Drama? Self-realization? Pointing out flaws? The season would constantly bounce from each of those things during the entire deal. I wasn't sure whether to laugh, sigh, cry or sit in disgust. Oh, and how do we fix all these problems? With Vork coming in and in 1 day solving it all. ...meh...Vork is awesome, but even I doubt that would happen.
To me, I just found it hard to take. If even half of the real life events went on, there would be serious consequences. Police action, jail, etc. Not the slap on the wrist at the end of Anarchy being forced to quit WoW.
(I am not saying that Felicia Day is a bad person or was sticking into MMO players, I'm just trying to figure out the reason why.)
3rd: The cop. Maybe this is me being naive, but I did not like the portrayal of the cop. The mere fact that he was willing to go allow with his guild's breaking of law just got to me. idk, I realize this isn't real, but with everything adding up, it just got to me.
4th: This season was just really dark, really edgy and had very few high points.
Am I tying The Guild too much into Real Life? Am I being too easily offended by Fiction? Am I reading way too much into this series? I'm not sure. I'm not easy to offend, but it kinda did this time.
I will still be watching the next season. Maybe my attitude has changed by then. thoughts?

Everyone is entitled to an informed opinion and I respect that. I have to say though, I personally loved the the last season (but I've enjoyed all of them). I think it's all in good fun. While I've seen certain elements of what they portray happen (the bits with Clara ignoring her family happens all the time), I think most of it is just to have us poke a little fun at ourselves. Felicia is a gamer and I think knows the people in this circle very well. I think that's one of the reasons the show has become such a popular thing on the net. We get it. Anyway, looking forward to the new season. :)
Agreed, based on what I've seen and heard of Felicia in addition to what Kenny has talked about on his podcast and here on the forums I can't imagine there's any malevolence there. Though of course you are entitled to your opinion.
Personally I feel like each season gets better then the last :)
Good reasons there King, but to answer your questions about cops. Yeah, you're being a little naive. Having a few dozen cop and firefighter friends, I can tell you with 100% certainty that they are just people like everyone else. They can make mistakes and they can also get caught up in their lives.
But I still think your opinions are pretty cool. Maybe we had different takes because of our connection to the subject matter? I liked this season a lot because I've had some misadventures of my own that had some similarities. At the same time, while I like MMORPGs, but I've never been that deep into them. I think those who are deeper fans might see it in another light because it might look as if it were an attack on their lifestyles.
So, yeah, I think your opinions are valid, but at the same time I think you are also right about taking it a little personally. The Guild isn't a documentary, but a comedy. Comedy is often harder to laugh at when someone thinks that they are taking shots at their "people".

Perhaps I am. It is why I'm giving the next season a chance. Maybe my attitude will have changed since I've "retired" from MMOs for a long time.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts King.. but as others have said.. this is just a webseries/comedy. Felicia was a hard core gamer for years and still plays WOW just not as much these days. She would never offend people on purpose. Of course there is always going to be a small number of people who get offended and I guess you fall into that category. I'm heavily involved in The Guild fanbase and from their reaction 99% of them loved the 3rd season.
And yes the characters and situation are over the top, it's written that way on purpose so that people come back every week.. that's the point of a webseries, to be watched.. could you imagine watching a webseries about a group of "real" gamers??
Also because it's a webseires it's written differently then a TV show.. every episode has to have drama/action/comedy and a cliff hanger that's packed into a 5 to 7 minute episode. So lots of stuff happens very quickly.

Paragraph 1: Hmm. So maybe I am blowing it out of proportion. I will never know :P
Paragraph 2: Well, true enough we would not be interested in real-gamers. That is as interesting as watching paint dry.
Paragraph 3: Maybe that's why I have issue as well, the fact that I'm forgetting they are short episodes compared to TV's usual drama. So I will give you that point as well. Maybe it's because it's all "stuffed" into shorter bites that it "overwhelms" me more than usual TV.

Almost as good as the first one, but that's hard to top imo. :) Very colorful and quite a few weird things going on. But a winner nonetheless. Still, the original MV feels more like a song + video whereas this is more of a....well, music video.

I'm just listening to net at nite where Leo Laporte and Amber Macarthur are interviewing Felicia. I actually find it very strange to hear them introducing her in very general terms. Yeah Game On isn't going to be released in HD now.. it was a mix up.. and Avatar is not out yet.
Darn. :'(
Loving this season so far! And you guys should have stuff for fans to purchase sooner than later! Interest wanes over time, marketing 101 and the Guild deserves the revenue.
Just watched 4.03, the pacing really is fast. It's odd, the story is still building up but it seems the important/interesting things are passed by without giving them the right attention.
Gives me the feeling that there's more to it, beneath the surface, drawing people along/down.
I'm intrigued.
Seems the quality of the show levels up with every season, very impressive and compliments to everyone involved in the production! :)

I'm quite engaged with the story this season (despite my lack of game experience) where last season I felt more like a casual viewer. I couldn't say what difference between the two elicited the different reactions, however.
I actually downloaded the first season and started watching it and I like it. It's hard to put my finger on what is so engaging about it, kind of has the Seinfield air about it. Great! Another show I'm hooked on!!!! :)

Best episode ever. Vork was really just ripping into my sides. :)
I'm enjoying the show, but I don't know about Vork myself. How much mooching can he do? I was honestly getting worried about Zaboo's Mom's bill.
very funny stuff.
great episode. Hmmmm...a brief case in a restaurant for left overs...
Love how Zaboo's mom calls him "Mr. Vwork." Actually I have always liked how everyone almost always calls each other by their in-game character names and not real names. Actually back in my Everquest days we did that a little with some guys I worked at BASF with that played the game with me. We would call each other by our character names. So that seems very real to me. Good stuff!
If I ever go to Nerdtacular or some regional AIE meetup I can't imagine calling people by anything other then their forum/character names. What's in a name? :)

There are 12 episodes this season (like S2 and S3) so we have 3 more episodes left
Watched through 5 to 9 last night (so I have a few podcasts I can listen to now).
The restaurant scene with the particular mix of characters used was a classic moment as much in the anticipation it built as in the payoff of the scene itself. In fact, just generally having Zaboo's mum around seems to provide so much material - I keep having to remember that the actress is fully aware of all that's going on even if the character seems a little bemused by much of it.
Very funny.

well, ok, I guess I just felt that the series was building up to something more than what they showed and it builds and builds and then.....stops. Not the usual climatic ending that the prior seasons had. You had the "raid boss" in S1, the party showdown in S2, the guild VS guild battle in S3 and the...marriage in S4.
It just didn't feel like a season ending to me.

Uhh, no. We can see the videos on our YouTube official iPhone apps. We just can't play them. And Trekkygeek who has an HTC Desire can't even watch The guild on his phone from YouTube.
King
OK anybody wanting to watch The Guild on a mobile device via YouTube, if you subscribe to "Watchtheguilditaly" it has all the seasons currently on YouTube (1-3) and they play back fine on my iPhone. The videos have Italian subs but this us no biggie.

Since you can't play the videos, why do you think it has nothing to do with Flash? I don't get what you are saying. Also, keep in mind The Guild has a deal with MSN going. Have you tried watching the videos right on www.watchthguild.com? (http://www.watchthguild.com?) I actually go there to watch them most of the time.
There is a setting for Youtube Uploaders (I checked last night) that prevent mobile devices and TVs from viewing the videos and this setting seems to be enabled for Season 3 of the Guild on YT. Since Steve Jobs gave us the YouTube App natively, it has nothing to do with flash.
And yes, we could watch the Guild from MSN, but some of us like to watch videos on the go. :) And since MSN/Bing does not have a video app, this makes it impossible for mobile devices to view said videos. (Going back to my notion that MSN/Bing still sucks ;) )
What I want to know is why The Guild is blocking mobile users? Why have it on YT at all if your going to block 50% of the viewership...
King
Rico, the youtube app on the iphone plays 99% of the videos unless the author restricts it. Youtube doesnt use flash with thus app and any videos browsed via the web interface get redirected to the app anyway for playback.
The issue I was having was that the native iPhone YouTube app gave an error saying that the content author had not authorised the content to be played on the iPhone. Tim discovered that if you got to the video via search instead of subscription it would bypass this restriction but not all the guild eps were searchable for sone reason.
Since then I found an Italian Guild subscription that plays fine just with Italian subs. My first guess as to why have such a block was a contractual issue like you mentioned. Who knows....
What Dangelus said ;)

Again, I say try www.watchtheguild.com (http://www.watchtheguild.com) on your phones. I don't have a web enabled phone so I can't try it this way.

That site just redirects to MSN, Zune and Xbox Live to watch the episodes and you need flash support.
Youtube only has Seasons 1-3 as new seasons are Microsoft exclusive as per contract.

My gosh King..complain, complain, complain.. I'm sorry that you can't watch The Guild on your mobile phone.. if you like I can see if I can get the cast to come out to you and preform it live and in person. The Guild bends over backwards for it's fans. They aren't produced by some large company. There are a few people running the entire thing. They put there show on You Tube because that is where they started and became popular. If there are restrictions for mobiles I'm sure they are unaware of it or it's part of some sort of deal. I'll see if I can find out why they put restrictions on them. You know you could actually support The Guild by buying the DVD and then you can burn each episode to your itunes legally or if you don't want all the DVD extras, you can go to the itunes store buy electronic versions of each episodes. And if you can't afford them then you can watch the episodes on your computer with You Tube, MSN/Bing, Zune or WatchtheGuild.com. And if you have an Xbox you can watch them there.
Sorry about the rant I'm just tired of hearing people complain about something that they don't pay for and have other ways of getting legal copies. It's like you give and give to these people and all they want is more and more.

The Microsoft deal is new episodes on Bing for 4 weeks exclusive, then they can go to itunes/zune and Watchtheguild. I think it's like six months before they go to You Tube.
Sent an email out to the folks who upload them to You Tube.. asked if they knew of the issue.. I'll let you know what they say.

Kenny, I don't think that's exactly true for www.watchtheguild.com (http://www.watchtheguild.com). They are there right as they come out, but embedded via MSN/Bing. So I guess it's close to the same thing. But I notice you don't get the preroll ads all the time when you watch them on www.watchtheguild.com (http://www.watchtheguild.com).
Thanks Kenny for looking into this. I'm sure nobody is complaining per se just curious why there is a restriction. I was guessing it was contractual reasons but the Italian version had no such restriction which doesn't make sense (unless it is not an official Guild channel).
Thanks again! :)

Yeah I know they have had issues with other countries.. it's different from country to country.
Look, I'm not complaining Kenny. Sorry if my post sounded that way, but I'm confused as to why the restriction, (if intentional) exists. Considering how many ppl have access to YouTube mobile, I am not the only one affected. And your absolutely right, if I want to watch the guild without restriction immediately, I should buy the DVD. But I had to cut all DVD/Blue-Ray purchases from my budget several months ago so I have to live with it. Which has been a bummer as I've wanted to but quite a number here lately.

You have to keep in mind how code and embedding works online. I don't care what their deal is with MSN, it generally doesn't prevent embedding video on websites. ANYONE, can embed these if they know how. The basic thing is, that once it's online it's nearly impossible to control it to a specific site.

Just saw the last episode and loved it. This whole season has been fantastic and i think every season just gets better and better. I love it. Now I am not a MMO gamer, i have never played WOW or any of the other stuff but I understand the little jokes that go on. I mean upgrading the hall to the ultra bright cartoon version, that killed me.
Felicia Day, what can I say a woman who oozes talent. A fantastic writer and actor. Ive said it before and I will say it again, this show should be on TV as a broadcast show.
Kenny, thank you for the continuous podcasts, I have been loving the companion casts, and please please please thank all the cast and crew for a fantastic season.

Even after mulling this over, while the explanation is sound and reasoned, hear me out. Just please, hear me out.
By The Guild's rules, because you didn't get a Zune, you must pay to see it on your other devices. This includes, but not limited to: Droid, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry/Rim, Palm and many other more mobile devices. I'm sorry, but no other Web Series that I know of atm enforces such a restriction. Examples:
Legend of Neil, who btw is made by some of the same people who do The Guild. They even created a dedicated mobile website for their fans.
Red VS Blue: Popular Halo Machinima series. They actually put all their videos on HTML5 so that we could all see it from their
website on any device.
And just about any other web series that exists.
And now that I think about it, I think Droid instituted Flash on their phones so that's becoming an inaccurate statement. My point still stands. This is a slippery slope that this is going down. How long until Web Series start catching on and say: "Sorry, unless you have a subscription/payperview to ________ service, you can't see this". "Oh, all our videos are only on this website and unless you pay $5, we won't give you an account." Sure, The Guild is special, but this is slapping the fans of your series in the face. "Sorry, because you don't like Microsoft, you have to pay to see it on your device". To me, it gives me a bad feeling. Your also being unfair to those that chose other devices because it fits their needs. Let's face it, none of these mobile devices fits everyone's needs. If one did, that would be the only one on the market right now.
Now I say this with the most love and respect I have for what the crew of The Guild has done and this season was very good. And I don't deny the costs that went into the project. And I also don't deny that this is a small issue in the large scheme of things. I would love to support the guild amongst other things. It's why I haven't forced YT to download the vids, it's why I haven't pirated any of it. But when groups or companies start enforcing restrictions on content like this, it makes me rethink my stand on this issue.
And I'm divided atm. Does anything of what I said make sense? I really want to know.

I'd buy the episodes from itunes if I had not seen them on Xbox live. Seems fair enough for me. I don not own the DVD's but of I did i would put them on my iphone, well i would if i could figure out how to do it lol

Okay King, I'll try to explain this to you. The Guild gets some funding from Microsoft. Not from Apple, RIm, or Google. Because Microsoft pays upfront, they cover the "costs" of someone with their devices getting the free version. If Apple or the other put up some cash, it would probably allow them to offer it for free too but they don't.
Why would Microsoft shell out cash if everyone else can freely reap the benefits of their investment. That makes zero sense. Also, those people with said microsoft devices that are getting the guild are supporting it an a way that Microsoft can track. They see the downloads and then decide that it's worth investing to the next season.
It simple logic. Neil and the other shows you mentioned don't need to lock content because they don't have a deal with Microsoft.
Lastly, the guild isn't saying if you don't have X device you can't see it. It's saying, "Here MS users, here's an easy way to view the show." Since you don't have said devices, you have to see it on Bing or Zune, or another MS outlet.
Why should MS make it easier for your iDevice when you didn't bother to pick up one of their devices? Being a sponsor to something gives you perks and this is just one of those perks.
Is it fair? Hell yes.
You want it faster on iPOD? Tell Jobs to pony up some cash or invest in flash.
Did I mention that while MS pays to sponsor the Guild, they show the eps for free, where as Apple takes a huge cut of the sale of the episodes on iTunes? So in essence, MS pays and Apple Profits. Maybe that's why you can't get it for free on your iDevice.
Hmm, that would explain that one video where Felicia Day said they "sold out" (in an obvious joking matter ofc).
I get it. Dunno why I couldn't make the connection to MS having control, guess I pretty much just figured it was solely The Guild behind this move. I'll drop the subject since it answered my question in the first place.
Thanks Kenny and X

Yeah it's funny to think our degrees of separation from some of our favorite people are now quite slim due to our association with Kenny! Wil Wheaton's participation in the past couple seasons brings us down to two right? Stephen King, the whole cast of TNG, etc etc.
As an aside, it's always fun to see Kenny pop up as an extra. He had alot of screen time during the party scene last season, in case anyone missed it.

Hey guys.. such a FANTASTIC weekend. Worked both days on set of The Guild and so much stuff has been leaked. Everyone was suppose to be a surprise but then Brent posted a tweet and pic and then other celebs tweeted that they were on set and it kind of snow balled.
Now of course I won't confirm or deny that "said" celebrities are going to be in the show. We had lots of people (celebs) just show up to hang out or visit with other friends (celebs) who are actually in the show.
But man what a fun weekend. I got to sit down and interview some great people, I can't wait until some of these episodes air so I can "tell all".
Anyways this season is going to be EPIC!!!

Woo Hoo~
This is big news!
From Felicia... Guild director Sean Becker made a lovely montage of my moments as Codex for an award I received at Banff Media Festival. It's so nicely put together I had to share it with the world. :) Lots of great moments over 4 years.

Los Angeles, CA (July 15, 2011) - Season five of THE GUILD will return to
Xbox LIVE on the Zune video Marketplace and MSN Video on Tuesday, July 26,
sponsored by Microsoft and Sprint. Picking up where season four left off,
season five takes THE GUILD members out from behind their computers and

THE GUILD stars writer/creator Felicia Day (EUREKA, DOLLHOUSE, DR.
HORRIBLE'S SING-A-LONG BLOG) as Codex, a lovable geek gamer addicted to an
online role-playing game. Season five follows the characters of THE GUILD
as they travel to a gaming convention called MEGAGAME-O-RAMACON.
"Conventions like San Diego Comic-Con and Penny Arcade Expo have been a part
of our experience promoting THE GUILD and connecting with fans," says
Felicia Day. "I wanted to bring that unique experience of a going to a con
to the screen." In addition to regular cast members Vincent Caso, Jeff
Lewis, Amy Okuda, Sandeep Parikh and Robin Thorsen, season five will feature
recognizable guest stars from the science fiction and genre community as
well as over 200 extras.
THE GUILD will appear for the fourth consecutive year at San Diego
Comic-Con with daily signings at booth 4201 and a panel at 4pm Saturday,
July 23 in the Hilton Bayfront Indigo Ballroom, Comicon's second-largest
venue. The panel will include a preview of season five and Q&A with the
cast.

P.S. In HD Kenny??
Well it was shot in HD.. so I assume they will release it on Xbox in HD.. isn't that what they did last year?
I think so. Just wasn't sure if all the deals and things still apply for this season too.
Season Five, episode one: "Road Trip" is out for Zune and XBOX. Just watched it. So fun and so cool to see the "gang" again! Check it out!
http://social.zune.net/tv/series/Road-Trip!/c1e74f93-c25c-4a24-b2c9-8b83201ae4f9 (http://social.zune.net/tv/series/Road-Trip!/c1e74f93-c25c-4a24-b2c9-8b83201ae4f9)
It will be out for non Xbox and Zune customers (meaning WWW) on Thursday.
I think anyone can get a "Zune Account" without buying anything. Just like you can get iTunes for free. You can then watch these online, in full HD on your computer.
http://social.zune.net/home (http://social.zune.net/home)
I haven't watched any yet but I did put this on my netflix Q.
Looks like the MSN video works on iPhones now, at least for the trailer. Is that just a fluke? Or is that compatibility issue fixed for good?
Here's episode 1 of Season 5

Season 5, episode 2 is up for XBOX and Zune folks.
Kenny - is this the release schedule for the whole 5th season? Tuesdays for XBOX/Zune, Thursday for MSN, web, etc.? I thought in year's past they eventually made the new episode releases the same day for all each week.
Kenny! I saw you in episode 1! :) You're at one of the outside cafe tables, right?

Yeah if you listen to the CompanionCast I talk to Felicia about that Krull reference.
Forbes posted an interesting interview with Felicia, not anything we haven't already heard. Makes me happy when I see one of "us" in old media lights:

Yes we filmed at a small local con in Long Beach. They gave us a small section on the sales floor to build our section.. our section was by far the coolest section. Most were tables with curtains.. our was full on SDCC style booths.
Episode 4 is out.. lots of cool cameos

Funny he'd act that way considering he's doing his own web series. I've never heard how he is with fans but that isn't very compelling.
Brent can be a little snarky at times. He likes to be funny and sometimes it can come off wrong. I also think he finds the whole world of fandom a bit strange. I should have interviewed him when we met up in that men's room years ago. Wait a second - that came out wrong. ;)

I guessed as much. I figured that if you'd had an interview to play with, we'd have heard it by now.
I still reserve the right to enjoy my mental image of you trying to suppress those fanboy urges, however. :) (Of course I know you'd really have managed admirably if you'd had the chance)

Well he's missed a trick then. He's trying to get a sponsor for his web series, does The Guild I'm sure with at least the partial intent of getting some tips but then doesn't promote himself?

That's pretty cool soda! I wonder if you can find it in stores? There's a grocery store near me that carries quite a few Jones soda products.
From Kenny's last podcast (actually, Companion cast for S5E5 I think) this isn't an 'in stores' range. I'm not sure how you do get it. Mail order?

Nope this is a limited edition soda that is not in stores. You can only buy online. $12.99 isn't bad but the $12.99 for shipping is a bit steep.. but it is with FedEx and it's liquid and that can always be an issue shipping.. so I guess you pay for the security of knowing it will arrive in one piece. At least that's how I justified buying mine :)

I think it just shows how darn cool a lot of these celebs are and willing to help out a friend. In the last episode I especially loved...
Kevin Sorbo - loved how he sort of goofed on his Hercules outfit and role. Great stuff.
Colin Ferguson - saying how he had to get home to fix his roof.
Zach Levi - about being in bed by nine.
Just awesome - funny stuff all around!
Yeah but i dont have cable and after google search i dont get Eureka etc
Didn't you ever watch Buffy, Meds? There are two people from Buffy in the latest episode.
(actually three if you count Felicia)
Yeah I used to watch Buffy but I didn't recognise anyone, to be fair I've not seen it in years and I could only remember the main characters etc.

Another good episode. I'm enjoying Zabu a lot this season. And I like that Codex and Tink seem to be getting a little closer.
P.S. Oh, by the way there is a new Guild comic out now that focuses on Clara. Not sure if that was posted anywhere else yet.
OK, someone give me a list of all the cameo's up to this point so I can know who they are. I know Erin Grey, Richard Hatch, Kevin Sorbo, the Chuck guy, and I looked up the Eureka guy. Who else? Who's the Asian dude? Oh, I also know the guy from the Lakers.
I think it's Grant Imahara from Mythbusters you're thinking of. Brent Spiner (old yellow eyes himself) was in there, too. Doug Jones (not that you'd recognize his face). Maurissa Tancheroen (?), too.
Who else have we forgotten?
A certain author named Neil Gaman. :)
Ah yes Neil Gaiman he's a cool bloke. I'm enjoying this series but I often feel having lots of well known extras takes you out of the story a bit. Still fantastic stuff though and the writing is sublime.

Yeah but the setting is at a comic book/gaming convention.. there are always celebrities around.. to me it makes it feel more realistic.
I agree Kenny. I mean if the Guild just was at some restaurant and all these celebs popped up, it would be strange. But at a con it's perfect.

The Guild - S6 Ep 1: Dream Questline (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTd2fCqulKM#ws)
S6, E2
The Guild - S6 Ep 2: New Party Members (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj2uKhzbCpg#ws)
Not bad....Something's missing though. Just doesn't have the same fun spark as before.
I have to agree with Bry, I'm enjoying t and I love the whole production values of The Guild but I didn't laugh (bar Vorks mounds comment). Can't quite put my finger on it.
Yeah, something is missing for me too. Maybe it was the length of time between seasons that allowed some of the excitement to fade. Production has gotten much better, but I think I miss the split screen in game conversations between and during quests.
S6, E3
The Guild - S6 Ep 3: Makeshift Solutions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrMJ9T_SklQ#ws)
S6, E4
The Guild - S6 Episode 4: Raid Timez (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpDCq2rifbs#ws)
Those were a little better.
S6, E5
The Guild - S6 Ep 5: Strange Frenemies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laCmd_gj2Yg#ws)
S6, E6
I like this one a lot (great one for gamers).
