Title: Moonlight
Post by: Darth Gaos on January 16, 2008, 12:58:36 PM
I know RIco has expressed his feelings on this show and he may be the only one other than me who watches it.  But I just had to let people know if you are not watching this show you are missing out.  Last night's episode was one of the best ones all "season".  I just wish there was more info on the shows future - post WGA strike.  It won the Peoples Choice Award which, one would think, would be highly promising.

Anyone watch....anybody have any inside info **cough**Kenny**cough**

ANYTHING!?!?!?

Yep - I can't say enough good things about the show.  I just hope the strike doesn't kill it or have a big impact on it.  I know it's been doing pretty good in the ratings too.

"Moonlight" showrunner and executive-producer Chip Johannessen has left "Moonlight," the CBS series, leaving executive-producer Joel Silver and the show's remaining writing staff to work on the four remaining episodes of the season. "Moonlight" has moved from greenlight status for a second season to a holding pattern. This latest news about Johannessen's departure doesn't bode well for the vampire show.

As long as Joel Silver is still on board there is hope.  It all depends on how these last episodes do in the ratings.  Everyone should give the show a chance if you like this sort of thing.  It's really good.  Reminds me a little of "Beauty and the Beast" too.

2nd Season of "Moonlight" Hopeful

Fans of the CBS vampire show "Moonlight" may have cause for hope that the show will get its second season. That hope comes in the guise of executive producer Joel Silver.

Silver, noted for producing such features as "The Matrix" and the upcoming "Speed Racer" film is so sure that CBS will greenlight the second season for "Moonlight" that he is already working on the development of the stories that will be featured upon its renewal.

"We're hopeful, commented Silver at a promotional for 'Speed Racer.'Racer. "I mean, the next episode goes on next Friday night, which is a really great episode. It starts out, Mick (played by Alex O'Loughlin) is still human, but then he has to go back to being a vampire. And I have three more really strong episodes. And I hope that it does come back, because we have a whole plan for next year that's fantastic.....We're going to go in, as a matter of fact, next week for a pitch meeting to tell them what we're going to do next year," Silver said. "And then that, coupled with the ratings, we'll know what happens."

We'll all know for sure next month if Silver's optimism is well placed as CBS announces its new fall lineup in New York at their upfronts for advertisers.

The continuation of season one of "Moonlight" airs with al new episodes this Friday (April 25) at 8/7C.

Great news!  I really like this show.  It has some interesting characters and I'm a sucker for vampires trying to do good.  ;)

Besides, the lead actress Sophia Myles (Beth) was dating "The Doctor."  I guess they split up now, but how cool was that?!

Wow....is Hollywood that fickle?  Is the fate of the show going to be determined by the next 4 weeks?  It's a shame.  Moonlight won the Peoples Choice Award for crying out loud....soooooo  at least a few of us like it!  Well, not much I can do, except give blood and keep hoping.

OK...so the new episode did not disappoint.  Great story and I cannot wait for next week.  Mick was human for a LOT LESS time than I though he would be.  I loved it when he went chasin after the one guy..."Am I really gonna hafta chase this guy?"

Also I loved seeing Joseph "vamp out"...that was awesome.  ANd when he and Mick walked into the Doctors office and Jospeh said something like "Oh it os SO on!"  My wife and I both got a big laugh out of it.

Hey Rico.. I hate to post this.. but I just read...

'Moonlight' Staked By CBS

By ROBIN BROWNFIELD
Source: E! Online
May-13-2008

"It's true. We found out about an hour ago that 'Moonlight' has been officially canceled."

Those words, sent out in a statement by "Moonlight" producers Gabrielle Stanton and Harry Werksman, have struck a blow to an avid and loyal fan base for the show that won over skeptics and found its own footing in vampire lore.

"We are truly saddened by the news and are sorry that we won't get the chance to live with our wonderful characters and follow them on their adventures for a second season," the statement continued. "We really want to thank all our loyal fans for their undying love and support of the show. We never would have made it this far without them. In vampire solidarity ... rah, rah!"

It seems execs at CBS were not happy with a 13 percent drop in viewers after "Ghost Whisperer" aired. While "Moonlight" consistently won the hour in ratings over all the shows that air on other networks at 9 p.m. on Fridays, it just couldn't maintain the numbers that lead-in show "Ghost Whisperer" boasts.

Fans, many of whom gave their own blood in a nationwide Red Cross blood-drive to save lives -- and "Moonlight" -- are not happy with the decision, with many of them announcing that they will no longer watch any shows that air on CBS.

The cancellation makes the finale airing on Friday especially bittersweet, because not only is it now the series finale, but it promises to up the stakes in terms of the mythology of the series, and end with a cliffhanger.

"Sonata," the final episode of "Moonlight," barring any unlikely last moment rescue of the show by some other network or a reversal of CBS's decision, airs Friday at 9 p.m. ET.

BREAKING NEWS–Hope left for Moonlight
Posted by Michael Hickerson on Wednesday, 14 May 2008

http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2008/05/14/breaking-news-hope-left-for-moonlight/

According to a report on Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood blog, all may not be lost for Moonlight.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the CW has decided to outsource its Sunday night programming block to the Media Rights Capital group.  And one of the shows under consideration to fill one of the two available hours is Moonlight.

Initially, Warner Brothers Television told Moonlight to strike the sets for the series, but news of the potential interest by Media Rights led to WBTV leaving the sets up until Friday according to the report.

Given the solid ratings for Moonlight and its passionate, loyal audience the move could mean that Moonlight would become the highest rated show on the CW.

At this stage, nothing has been confirmed.  We'll keep our ears open for any details and report on them as they develop.

So let me get this straight.....87 out every 100 people that watched Ghost Whisperer watched Moonlight and that is not good enough?!? CBS retained almost 90% of its viewers and it consistently won the Friday 9pm time slot and that is not good enough???  Am I missing something math-wise with this or is it as ridiculous as it sounds to me?  CBS can bite me.

Not that I'm defending CBS or anything but there is alot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that can also effect a show's renewal. Moonlight has gone through several Executive producers.. that's never a good sign. Also I have not seen this series but production costs can also play a factor.

I used to watch a TON of shows on CBS, but over the past three years, I have gone from watching 75% of their shows to just watching Jericho, Moonlight, and How I Met Your Mother. Now all I watch in How I Met Your Mother. And there is talk that they might cancel that...
Title: Re: Moonlight

Yeah Kenny deep down I know that but I'm still bitter.  Good shows like Moonlight get cancelled for, what on the surface seems like a weak reason, but "American Gladiators" came back!!!  It just seems wrong.  Plus most people don't have the advantage that we do of knowing someone like you, inside the industry.  While you may not be able to provide specifics all the time you are VERY knowledgable of the "inside baseball" stuff and how the industry works.  Again most people will read that story and get the perception that the show was cancelled for reasons that would make other shows happy...or so it would seem.

You are 100% correct about that.. people complain and complain about reality shows but they don't understand that one episode of a TV series like Moonlight cost over 1 million an episode. Reality TV shows cost $500,000 for the entire season of episodes. The TV industry is like any other business.. they are in it to make money.. not entertain the masses... it's sad but true.

Post by: Rico on May 16, 2008, 11:51:51 AM
There are many factors.  But, honestly I would be surprised if "Moonlight" costs $1 million or more per episode.  The effects are minimal, the cast is new, it's a pretty simple series to make.

But the real story is can they get the money back?  It really doesn't matter how much it costs if they end up making a good profit.  One reason it's actually better to keep a fairly solid ratings show on and build an audience and do more episodes.  Single season shows rarely make much money in syndication.  I would also argue that DVD sales, digital distribution are other sources of income for non-reality shows.  I don't really see people buying season DVD sets of even popular reality shows like "American Idol."

But in any case, I'm still hoping someone will pick the series up for a second season.

I saw this today when I drove by Warner Brothers this afternoon.. I did my part and honked my horn :)

Moonlight Fans To Rally

Fans of CBS' canceled vampire drama Moonlight will convene in Los Angeles over Memorial Day weekend to rally in support of the show at Warner Brothers studios in Burbank, Calif. The rally is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT on May 23 at the corner of North Pass and West Olive avenues. The studio is the home of Silver Pictures, which produces the series with Warner.

Moonlight fans have also sponsored an ad to run in both The Hollywood Reporter on May 21 and in Variety on May 22 to thank the cast and crew for creating the show and to demonstrate to potential networks the depth of the fans' loyalty to the series.

Fans are hoping another TV network will pick up the series from CBS.

Fans will be in town for MoonlightCon, the first fan convention for the series.

FINALLY watched the season/series finale of Moonlight last night.  And once again let me express my utter and complete displeasure at CBS for cancelling this show.  The only solace I take from this is that they did not end the series with a huge cliffhanger **cough**SURFACE**cough**.  I would have liked to see the "list" storyline play out a bit but at least they left Beth and Mick on a good note.

Anyway, I liked the series finale but reaaly wish it wasn't the SERIES finale.

dang you eye network.

i like Moonlight. At the beginning, I was more loyal to Blood Ties, but I think Moonlight got stronger as the series progressed. I tend to like the fantasy series (esp. in books) but I try to see the TV when I can manage it.
