Title: Top 50 Sci Fi and Fantasy Weapons
Post by: Bryancd on November 26, 2007, 06:26:38 AM
This is a curious list. Not sure I agree with a lot of it. What about the Blade Runner blaster, or a Sandman Flame Gun? What would you add?

Interesting List, but wondering why no Ferengi Energy Whip ;) , or the Klingon Bat'leth, or the cool Klingon Disruptor that they can build from pieces of their uniform. Chewies Bowcaster is cool as well.

I can't believe "He-Man's Power Sword" and "Green Lantern's ring" beat the phaser and the lightsaber.

Just from Jen's post I don't want to read the list.  There is no weapon on the same level as the lightsaber IMO.  I will admit that Green Lantern's ring is cool but c'mon.

EDIT: Just read the list and I must say......whatever.....some good ones on there but they sure seemed to reach for some.  I did like the shout out to the cheesy but immensly enjoyable movie Runaway with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons.

Yeah; that's pretty weak.  And they forgot Wolverine's Claws. 8)

I can't believe "The Green Lantern's Power Ring" was number one. I'm not a big DC comics fan so I don't even know what it does. I know what a Batarang is though (doesn't everyone?) and it's not on the list.  Now I'll go read to find out what's so special about that ring. . .

Well they sure seemd to be in love with bladed weapons for some reason.  While cool, some of the choices were.....meh.

The Lantern Ring does everything you could imagine and has a built in onboard computer.

That was my thought too Jen. I can think of a couple cooler weapons. . .Just X, that is one cool weapon but #1?? I guess it's fine for people who are into the DC universe.

That's what I felt, this was skewed towards a comic/fantasy crowd.

Yep.  I guess this is to be expected, though.  After all, the listing was from Wizard magazine.

Wizard is a comic themed magazine.  So I am not surprised.

I would have put the Lightsaber at #1 with Green Lantern's in the top 5.  Then again for me Star Wars is always #1.   :starwars:

Why weren't these on the list?
The ultimate weapon: RiverTam from Firefly
Aragon's sword Andúril
Jane Cobb's Rifle: "Vera" from Firefly
Harry Potter's Wand
The Klingon Batliff
The One Ring
The Darkside

Hey, I thought of another BIG Sci-Fi weapon they missed.
What about the ultimate power in the universe?
The Death Star?  :dstar

We should hold a vote for the number one sci-fi weapon.

I agree completely.  One problem with lists like this is trying to rate one thing above another.  Almost would be better to just put out a list but not in any order.

I always loved the glaive from the movie "Krull."  Cool weapon but a bit of a silly movie.

But if I could only have one, it would have to be a real lightsaber.  That has to be the coolest weapon in SF/Fantasy ever.
