Title: Pandora
Post by: davekill on November 21, 2007, 05:46:10 PM
I've used this free music service for over a year now.

http://www.pandora.com/
This is a brief description from their help page.

What is Pandora?

Pandora is a music discovery service designed to help you enjoy music you already know, and to help you discover new music you'll love.

It's powered by the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken, the Music Genome Project: a crazy project started back in early 2000 to capture the complex musical DNA of songs using a large team of highly-trained musicians.

Just tell us one of your favorite songs or artists and we'll launch a streaming station to explore that part of the musical universe.

You can listen to Pandora on the Web, Pandora on the Go, or Pandora in the Home.

Yup, I used it right up until they stopped serving content outside of US IP's. I know it's not their fault but it kinda sucked.

Ouch! I guess they must have got hammered with some sort of international copyright voodoo.  :taz

Why do you require a United States Zip Code when registering?

Our music license requires our listeners to be United States residents, which is why we require your US zip code during registration. We are working as fast we can to make Pandora available internationally. For more information about international licensing, please see: http://blog.pandora.com/faq/#79

Thanks for the link. I was thinking about this company today but I couldn't remember its name. I read about it in INC magazine and was somewhat intrigued but forgot the name a few days later (and I don't have the mag anymore). I'm gonna check them out.
