Man sometimes I really hate PC's.. I can't play the QT on my work laptop.. keeps giving me the Q with a ? mark over it.. I'm sure it's some sort of codec.. but of course it doesn't tell you what you need.. I'll have to look at this when I get home on my PC or IMac.
I saw this trailer with "Beowulf" yesterday. This movie looks like it's going to rock!
wow, that is cool looking. Is it Godzilla???
Cloverfield... hmmmmmm

Could be a fun "scary" movie, just hope the whole thing wasn't shot with a hand held camera like "Blair Witch"

Try this (hurry; I'm sure that it will by yanked down soon...)
So is that the name now... Cloverfield.. I know that was suppose to be the code name but didn't hear it was the official title.
Looks good.. have to see it on the big screen... it's tough to watch in a little you tube video.
Yep, they yanked it, but it's also on the Cloverfield website.
I saw the trailer the other day when I saw Beowulf as well, looks like it will be an interesting movie. Looking forward to it.
Here's five minutes of Cloverfield... takes a while to load if the site is super busy. It looks awesome but the shaking camera is going to get old fast.

Man; I have GOT to see this movie!!! So what do y'all think this is- a Godzilla type monster movie, an alien invasion movie, or something else?

J.J. said that it is the "American Godzilla" movie. He was quoted as saying that Japan has the Godzilla movies and the Americans needed one also.

And don't forget. The first "Star Trek" movie trailer is suppose to be in front of this movie. So only about a month to wait for that too!
Monster Will Get Camera Time
On one of our past shows we did a story on the upcoming J.J. Abrams produced film with the codename "Cloverfield" and co-host Michael R. Mennenga speculated on whether or not moviegoers will actually get to see the monster. That same question was starting to get asked by a lot of people once the official trailer was released since the film is shot using a hand-held camcorder style video camera from the perspective of a group of young people attending a party.
Their party, as well as the entire city of New York, get ripped apart by this mega-monster that, in the trailer, is never seen but only heard. The monster's vocal sounds reminds one of another famous monster - Godzilla.
Well, on whether or not the monster is seen in the film, fears of the latter have been laid to rest from "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves. During his press junket to promote the movie he had this to say concerning the monster's debut:
"People who have seen the trailer might think we are using this style to avoid seeing the monster, but that is definitely not what we're doing. We're using it to build dread and anticipation," commented Reeves. "But in this movie, you do see a lot. At the end of the day, it still has that huge scale, it's just that it's shot from this point of view. So you're going to see the monster, you're going to see huge-scale destruction, you're going to see a lot of crazy stuff!"
"Cloverfied," aka "01-18-08″ will premiere in theaters on January 18, 2007.
I have no doubt we will see plenty of the monster. People can take some suspense for awhile but ultimately want some sort of pay off.

Actually I hope that's not all together true or a good thing. What made Alien and Jaws famous was what you didn't see. I wish we got back to the suspense of what you can't see. Just my humble opinion :)

But if they are billing it as a monster movie, then you need to see the monster. I don't think that any monster movie is good without an ample dose of the monster.
All I keep seeing in my head is Godzilla USA with Matthew Broderick.......I sure hope it's not anything like that crap movie!
I saw that movie two days before it came out and I liked it.
I've seen every single godzilla movie ever made and let's be honest, it had a far better plot and better special effects than the other Godzilla movie.
The only problem with that Godzilla was that it didn't look like Godzilla.
I know we all have different tastes, but what were you expecting when you went in? I got exactly what I expected. Big monster crushes city and gets killed. How was that any worse than every other Godzilla movie?

Better acting and plot. It may be better than the other Godzilla movies but that does not mean I have to like it :)
I think it depends on how much they show, what the creature looks like, etc. I have no doubts with today's technology they can come up with something pretty cool looking. I actually kind of liked the more recent "Godzilla" movie remake. Although I wasn't a big fan of all the baby Godzillas in the movie.

For sure Alien and Jaws benefited from the lack of screen times of the principal creatures, although in the case of Jaws that had as much to do with Bruce not working than directorial genius! But those films had monsters on a small scale vs. Cloverfield or Godzilla, where the bad guy is as big as a building. That does require a big payoff for the audience in terms of screen time.
I agree with Bryan. For a creature trashing New York city it really has to be shown. For a creature in the ocean or on a ship in space it's a different type of story and needs more suspense and mystery. I do think they will do a good job on this. Oh, did anyone notice in the new trailer I think you can see just a tiny quick shot of the creature when the camera is looking down the street at the building falling down? I swear you can see something like a tail swish by. I need a higher res. version of the trailer to be sure.
I saw the same thing, a HUGE something between the buildings, right? It looks like this thing is supposed to be enormous. It might make Godzilla look like a poodle in comparison.
If you do a Google search for Cloverfield Monster, there are some high res. close up slo-mo's of that shot wher you cans ee the legs and tail moving. Rico, I think a link was posted on the RPF but I can't get to the RPF from work, maybe you can find it.
