Title: Big wind storm
Post by: moyer777 on November 12, 2007, 10:25:57 PM
Wow we had a big wind storm here in Aberdeen today.  Lost power from 10am till 6pm-- on my day off.  So I went through internet withdrawls.  Everything is cool now though.  Most people have their power back, over 15,000 or so were without it most of the day.

Crazy!  And I actually went walking today.  I waited till the wind died down and then got rained on for about 10 minutes or so.

Not bad though.  Of course then we had to get the house warm again-- we use a pellet stove and it runs on electricity.  Fun fun.

I'm glad everything is cool now.. I hate when the power goes out for an hour here.. couldn't imagine eight hours.. I'm glad you survived :)

We got some of it here in Spokane but watching the news this morning....whew...we didn't get it anywhere near as bad as the west side.  About 2000 people lost power just to the north and east of us but everyone here in town seemed none the worse for wear.  Ya gotta love it when a frontal system moves through

Glad everything is ok now Rick.  I still remember that time several summers back when power was gone for much of Michigan, Ohio, Penn., etc for days.  That was not fun.  You realize how dependent we all are on the basic things like power, water, etc.

You have to love how incredibly useless Pellet stoves are.  We have one and every time we need it...no electiricty....kinda pointless if you ask me.

Glad you're OK. I can deal with heat but cold...not so much. I'm cold natured and have to have a little heater next to my desk at work because my co-workers are fond of dropping the air down to 69 and 70 degrees.

But being without heat during the winter is not something I'd like to ever experience.  A few winters ago we had a big ice storm here in central Texas that knocked out our power for a few days. My teeth are still chattering.

Was it a cold front that caused the high winds, Rick?

I am in Ohio where Rico was talking about loosing power. No fun, but gives you an interesting outlook on life with no power.

We get big windstorms from time to time.  It's no fun, but it wasn't too cold.  Most of the time the winds are with pelting rain.  Huge amounts of rain.  But this time it was just really windy.

Things are good now, I just didn't like be cold and without the sci fi board on my day off!  Man!

We had a wind warning on Tuesday, it blew the top off the tree in my front yard and snapped some power poles. A friend of mine who works for the city spent the whole day picking up trees and branches. Glad to hear you are safe Rick, hopefully it was not the same windstorm we had, as I think ours was coming from the northwest.
