Since getting back from our holiday my wife and I have been so busy with work and home projects that we really have had little time for much else. One of the things I have done is to upgrade our home entertainment system. A new LCD television, new HDMI DVD player (no HDDVD or Blue ray....YET!) during this upgrade I have decided to OUT all of my VHS videos. With my ever increasing DVD collection and my large Laser Disc collection along with a possible HDDVD or Blue ray next year it really is a case of "something has to go", now this VHS collection is huge, all 7 seasons of the Next Generation, Deep space 9 and Voyager. I have looked at selling them on eBay but the shipping costs alone tend to make it uneconomic, and local charity shops don't seem that interested. So then I had this idea which is basically to give them away to a UK member of the forums and for them to make a donation to the treks in sci-fi podcast. I will also throw in my VHS player which is a Sony smart engine, which is in very good condition. All I ask is that they collect and make a nice contribution to the podcast. I feel this is a win win situation for all, I create some space for my ongoing collections, and somebody gets a fantastic video collection and "hopefully" nice donation is made to the podcast. All the videos are PAL format the player is PAL/NTSC. I can give a full list and pictures of all the items. If anyone is interested or maybe knows of someone who might be please contact me. I would really like these to go to a good home. I have run this idea past Rico before posting. HERE IS HOPING! :) :metallica:
wow! i love classic VHS and my VHS player just broke...I'd be willing to pay for shipping for everything and contribute to the forum...but i live in the US.
Would the shipping form UK to the US be rediculous?
Hi Boothanew
To be honest with you i think it would be, the VCR is 240V so you would have to find a way to boost it to US voltage. We are talking in excess of 250 Videos here i have them in box's measuring 600x350x250mm and there are 10 of them and each one is really heavy. i would imagine it would cost several hundred US $ to ship them and the current exchange rate not really in your favour . If some one from the UK picked them up i am sure they would fill large estate car or small van. But if you are interested i will get them weighed and get some kind of figure on the costs. email me by all means .

I ebay quite a bit and I tend to avoid international purchases for three reasons:
1. Well, the US $$ to (e.x.) Britain pound doesn't favor us. idk what it is nowadays, but its not fun.
2. Shipping is insane even for smaller packages. Mostly because of the distance and then any checks at w/e post office.
3. Incompatibility. Not everything merges with US stuff very well.
Of course, this is NOT to put a damper on it. You can do it, but it will cost you quite a bit to get them. Especially in that quantity. However, I think you might be able to get an adapter for switching Britain to US electrical specs. I'm not entirely sure though so don't quote me on that. All I do know is that there are US adapters that make it so you can plug stuff into Britain electrical.
