Title: Podcasts
Post by: Geoff G.o.B on October 19, 2007, 01:38:58 PM
Ok I listen to my podcasts when I walk too and from work, its about 30 mins each way. The trouble is I'm up to date with Rico's great podcast so one episode only lasts me one day. I'm also listening to Discovery Channel podcasts, Matts Today in History and Military History podcast, but again thats probably another 2 days worth max. Can anyone suggest any other podcasts that may be worth a listen to fill in my time between my weekly Scifi & Trek fix?

cheers  :cylon

Yea, I could use some new ones too.  Ones that are at least weekly.  I'm on listening to Treksf and a WOW podcast.  But the wow podcast is barely twice a month.  Pretty sad.  So if anyone could suggest anything.

Have you tried "The Instance" for a good WOW podcast.  Here are some others I listen to:

Extralife Radio - good, geeky fun
Jawbone Radio - fun show about a married couple
PC Gamer Podcast
Star Wars Action News
TWIT - This Week in Tech
Slice of SciFi

Been trying a few others out lately to find a good comic book cast.  I really liked Comicology but Neil who does that show hasn't done a new one since July.  There's a lot of great stuff out there.  I tend to like the ones more done by regular folks, not the pros in the field.  But some of those are ok too.

Yeah those are some good ones.... here are a few more I listen too.

For Firefly/Serenity
- Firefly Talk
- The Signal

For Farscape
- Scapecast

For Harry Potter
- Pottercast

Ok Jen put the mp3 player down and back away slowly, that's just way too many for one person to listen to.

seriously though thanks guys, theres a couple there I wan to try, must admit I want to try the extralife just because I've heard the trailer on yours Rico and I love the music clip.

well the night tis dark and the land is still, I must away to my bed, for on the morrow we do battle the villanous South Africans at that noblest of Sports rugby (you know football without the girlie armour! ooh the letters I'll get now)

I shall leave you with this parting thought

If you can laugh in the face of adversity....you probably didn't understand the question  :old_bash:

I am really enjoying the heroes in science fiction and fantasy podcast with Doc.  It's like a bunch of research on different movies and tv stuff.  I enjoy it a lot.

here is the url http://www.heroesofsciencefictionandfantasy.com/ (http://www.heroesofsciencefictionandfantasy.com/)  It comes out weekly.
My walk to work is 60 minutes, so it is just perfect for that.

I also listen to slice of sci fi sometimes, and occasionly I will listen to extralife.

When Lost is on the air, the official ABC podcast with Matt and Damon is really good.

Yeah, but they update their shows at different times of the week and I listen while I work...So I don't have a "problem per se", just a need to tune out the noise in my office and occupy my mind while I design. Don't forget Duffster's podcast: Read More Sci-Fi. Like my cast, I don't think it's  on iTunes yet, but you can download his shows on his web site.

Yea, I've tried the instance, but they don't release very often...*sigh* I guess the good ones just don't release very often.  The Tavern cast podcast is no longer a WOW one which kinda sucks....oh well

Don't release very often??  The Instance comes out every week.  I think they just missed last week (for one of the rare misses) because one of the hosts was out of town.  But Scott and Randy are very regular with the show.  You can look at the show notes from all the episodes for them at www.theinstance.net  They are up to show #83 (one just came out yesterday).

Podcast fans are a fickle bunch, Scott and Randy miss one week and now they "don't release very often". Don't miss a week of Treks in Sci Fi Rico, we may all run!

If you're not limiting yourself to sci-fi and anime related podcasts, I have a few to recommend.

If you don't listen to them on the radio, or are busy during the hours they're on:
-Car Talk
-NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me! weekly news quiz
-This American Life

They're about an hour each, so if you have a big chunk of time, they're ideal.

Also, there is the podcast version of Dan Savage's weekly sex advice column "Savage Love." Callers leave messages for him over the week, and then he responds through the podcast. Usually pretty funny.

My bad, I got them confused with World of Warcast.  The instance has become my favorite.  World of Warcraft Chronicles has fallen off my good side because they are now releasing every month or more....if they get around to it.

Thanks guys!  I'll start looking into this podcasts!

Oh, and I realized you guys didn't mention these podcasts which I listen to:

Imperial Holonet Radio.  Granted, it does have more collecting in it than probably any others, its got good hosts, funny discussions.  Just a great podcast for Star Wars.
Grey's Anatomy Official Podcast.  Ok, its just for those who actually watch the show.
Wow Addons.  Although, they have lost most of their hosts and don't post regularly.  But its a good one for the game.

Man, Kenny, I tell ya, Pottercast #123....should have been more thought out.  Way too much....political/religious stuff in that.  Its an OK podcast, but my approval of it goes up and down.  But thanks for the info.

Like I have said in the past.. to each his own.. I thought 123 was great, I've read bunch of those "Hate" comments on their boards. I think it's great the way they defended JK and the Potter series.

Next to Treks SF, Pottercast is my favorite podcast.

Well, the reason I had issues was not because of the whole gay issue because somehow that still applied to Harry Potter, it was due to the fact that they took the whole Dumbledore story and went off on many different tangents.  When I listen to a podcast, I prefer they stick with what they are supposed to be talking about.  Its just like with Treks in Sci-Fi.  If Rico started talking about how Mrs. Clinton has the best chance of winning the presidential, (which I hope like heck not, but we are NOT NOT NOT talking about that) then I would probably consider /unsuscribe Treks-in-Sci-Fi.  If I want to listen to a religious/policital discussion, I prefer listening to actual ones.  Though I don't anymore because I listened to one before, and it would get my blood burning and...I really don't need to vent on my friends on the idiotic thing that some dumb politician did.

Its just how I think of it.
